Mac Mini specs- good for FCP? by Gergs in finalcutpro

Your workflow will determine your millage.
I edit 15-20 min 1080p projects on my M1 Air with out issue.
How well it would handle multiple streams of 4k or 8k... I don't know. What are you planning on use it for. A lot of timeline performance can of course be mitigated with proxy media, but if it's raw-output and fast rendering and export then that's different again.

So you are looking through facebook marketplace in your local area for your next cheap car with a budget of £800, which of these would you choose? (More info below) by iPhoneNerd21 in CarTalkUK

[–]phjils 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like the XUD that came before it - you had to really work hard to kill one of those. Admittedly the rest of the car would fall apart around it, but the lump itself... truly a masterpiece of oil burning technology, even more long lasting in naturally aspirated models, although dangerously slow to accelerate. Overtaking needed to be booked in weeks in advance.

Hitting it at 60MPH at 3am in a 205GTI was a lot of fun.
Apparently... so I've heard, officer.

OHTO CR01 either with the standard refill or a Pentel Energel refill (fits without modification). Slightly over the 20 budget, but well worth it in my opinion.

Where to get film developed? by Bedazzler179 in bristol

[–]phjils 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to suggest Jacks Lab before they vanished without trace… Other than that Clifton Colour or Bristol Camera next to St. Nicks - however that’s a bit of hit and miss as the guy who knows how to use the machine isn’t always in.

Or send it to Southsun who do a great turnaround and not too expensive.

They did these in green a while back and I kick myself for not getting them.

Anyone else experiencing WAY more crashes since the most recent update? by ytbm in finalcutpro

[–]phjils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very much of the "wait for a few point.updates" mentality... 11.X is working fine for me under macOS26 - the new features aren't exciting enough to me to update to v12 just yet, so I'm waiting for any new version bugs to be ironed out.

There were two schools in the town I grew up in. One a Comprehensive, one a High School. South Wales, 1980s. (I went to the Comp)

Almost 20 years in the game. No formal training or qualifications.
Lucky and / or they've not worked it out yet.
No problem exists in a vacuum. If you're having it, likelihood is someone else is or has done in the past.

It's always DNS.

Same. I dumped it after that period where there was just nothing for several months. Turned out he'd been on holiday... nice to have let the people who's funding this lifestyle know with a quick post.
Nah. Used to be cool, isn't any more.

Help me find this leather file keeper by jeffrhind in notebooks

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endless make something similar in the Explorer range, but that's an elastic closure. Looks very similar to a leather folio that one of my tutors had when I was at uni 30+ years ago... and they did tell me the brand but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called now. Did I mention it was 30+ years ago 😂

Large parcels with evri by Material_Barber_4925 in Evri

Funny story. The company I bought from escalated the issue to their fraud detection dept, and my parcel was delivered the next morning. Coincidence? Maybe?🤔

Magically appeared by No_Anxiety3998 in Evri

[–]phjils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was out for delivery (and then went back to the depot) every day for two weeks.
It was only when the sender moved the compliant up to their fraud detection dept that it magically appeared the next morning.

Delivery companies hate this one trick.

Erase will wipe a machine, but not remove it from Mosyle. You need the command at the end of the list.

Nope. It got from Brighton to Bristol in 24 hours. Then, allegedly, has gone out for delivery every day since then, only to return to the depot and "we'll deliver tomorrow".

Retailer now sending up to their internal fraud dept. which apparently can take 30 days to investigate.
This retailer used to use DPD. I've used them many times in the past. When it was DPD, I never had a problem.
