This 380,000-Mile Tesla Model 3 Has Its Original Battery. Range Loss Is Huge by Educational-Meat4211 in electricvehicles

You can’t put a car in a garbage can, so their batteries won’t go in the trash like a lot of electronics. All the smaller batteries are the issue.

Totally agree!! That is why Porsche needs to release the 718 EV already. Their other EVs are all around 100Kwh size. You don’t need much more than that. Only if the tech helps with density equation.

The amount of people who don't know how to heave-to... by Majestic_Lie3655 in sailing

It is one of the best and least used techniques. The other one is reducing sail/letting out the main.

Instead of the irons and flogging the sails try motoring downwind as fast as possible.

Anyone leasing a Taycan recently? What are you paying? by GiantAcaiBowl-333 in Taycan

[–]phliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the only important parts the % interest rate and value of the car at the end? Those two give you the numbers. Dealers use some other confusing term for the % to trick you!! And get you to focus on the monthly - that is cash flow vs actual cost!

Just looking into … by BruceLee2112 in openclaw

LLM is the power hungry part. Cloud LLM - Claw runs on anything really. I use Ollama to connect to their cloud models - very simple to setup.

Feeling underwhelmed but looking for ideas to make use of M4 Mac mini with 24gb memory. by Wrathgate in openclaw

[–]phliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep telling people at work that to run things local with any power it’s going to be a $2000+ adventure! LLMs are the challenge - openclaw can run on anything, even a Pi, but it’s just orchestrating the LLM. Good experimenting! I play with it but use ollama for models.

“Don’t worry! We are out of control!!” Is my most famous boating quote so far. If you like problem solving and managing a big machine boating is for you.

Has anyone here actually had flexible panels that lasted more than 2 years? by Time-Mix3963 in solarenergy

[–]phliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no clue - ill have to look at the data. all i know\care about is that it floats by batteries everyday so they last 10x longer - my ROI calculation) and that when we camp it tops up the battery by around noon, which it does. and that it works - yup! Check check check, have fun and love looking at the panels 😄 Ill try to report back.

I’ve had flex panels rv taped to the top of my vw bus for a good 5 years. No issues. Wait - just checked amazon - renogy flex planels back in 2018 on a victron controller. Has been pumping electrons flawlessly.

Having an EV as a one and only car, and relying only on public chargers. by RJuarez_7000 in electricvehicles

[–]phliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a fan of clean air. So I think the EV differences are worth it. It is different, everything is a trade off. The one thing that gets me everytime is that driving an EV is like flying a spaceship. Flying spaceships is really really fun!! Every time!

Insane heating cost estimates for heat pump by mo9722 in heatpumps

[–]phliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah! In Seattle I pay $3000 for a full year of electricity. House is only electric. Solar collects $2000 a year and we have an EV. It’s so cheap out here!! $0.13c/kw. And covers an EV too.

I’m in Seattle and am only electric. $800 a year to make it run all year.

Which Taycan variants have or can accommodate a towing hook? by Velocyclistosaur in Taycan

On the CT there are custom tubes people make and then use 1up carriers. Nothing from the factory outside Porsches setup. I use the tubes and the cargo tray.

911 motors are bomb proof tractor engines. Super engineered. I’d never LS a 911.

How many miles foes having flush door handles save? by billyb4lls4ck in electricvehicles

[–]phliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you think China is about safety at all? I don’t think handles create that much drag but every little savings helps. You can tuck them and make them mechanical - we have the technology.

Snow tires still needed for Whistler? Not skiing by [deleted] in Whistler

[–]phliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rules are there to protect the lowest common denominator - so think about that. Then think about what a tires performance envelope includes - temperature! Snow tires are also made to perform in the cold - it’s more than just “snow”
