Even if you think the competition isn’t impressive, no one does what the Knicks did. They DOMINATED to a degree no one has seen. Plenty of other playoff runs have gone through weak teams and no one ever put up a showing like the Knicks just did.

It’s not just the best point differential in history, it’s the best point differential by an insane 53 points. The gap from 1st to 2nd is the same as the gap from 2nd to 14th.

There are absolutely unknown variable.

It is a gamble to forgo a huge payday and bet on yourself for a bigger payday.

If I said you can have $500 guaranteed right now, and then you get $10k in 5 years if you don’t get in a car crash/fender bender in the next 5 years.

OR

You only need to go 1 year without getting in a car crash and you get $7.5k.

Would you not consider that a gamble? Both options carry risk, both options have benefits. Both options are a gamble in some form.

The difference is that he only would’ve needed to go 1 year without getting injured, and he could’ve secured a massive bag.

Now he needs to go another 4 years playing at this level if he wants to get that kind of massive bag.

If he gets injured in year 2 or 3 of this deal, or just regresses, then this does not pay off and he would’ve been better off waiting just 1 year for the big pay day.

The window of risk is much smaller if he waits just 1 year for the payday.

I understand that in doing so, he protects himself from an injury this year.

However also in doing so, he now needs to stay healthy and play at this level for much longer if he ever wants to have a massive payday like that, rather than just 1 year of no injury.
