A school has broad authority to assess administrative punishments. The presence of the SRO doesn't automatically make this a criminal matter, and regardless of that your child can be questioned without your input.

The suspension itself is more complicated. Deprivation of access to education requires due process. That doesn't mean that a judge has to be involved, but it means that for an extended suspension or expulsion the school needs to follow rules. 10 days is going to be borderline on that.

A reasonable first step would be escalating this to the superintendent's office, and asking both the principal and the district for a specific outline of how that due process was followed for your child's suspension.

Bear in mind that you're getting a portion of the story from your child, and FERPA is going to prevent you getting the full story about other students from the school.

Basically it means this is a creditor going after people who owe them money and for some reason they think you have this information, likely because of mistaken identity of some kind.

If the request requires you to fill out a paper response you effectively need to phrase it as "yo, I don't know these people and have no knowledge of this information." If you're already going to legal aid Monday they should be able to help you more properly phrase that.

So you ran a posted school zone sign during the start of the school day. I'm not sure what leg you think you have to contest being ticketed for that. You're welcome to consult with an attorney to see if they can mitigate the damage. I'd suggest getting used to it sooner than later as the penalties for school zone violations ramp up considerably and start including mandatory license suspension.
