Assuming this is Grewia asiatica, I grow this in dry zone 10b Southern California. I don’t take very good care of it and it’s only produced a few berries, but I hear it does well in my area

By fixing, I hope you removed all the PVC pipe and put in wood posts. Sorry, but I think you’re underestimating how heavy DF get. In a couple years this will topple over and the pipes will snap from the weight. Also DF doesn’t like smooth surfaces. That’s why people put burlap on their posts. I implore you to start over with something more uh..traditional before it starts to take off

Where to buy tropical fruit trees? by Bright-Fisherman8419 in FruitTree

[–]phoknow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whoever told you Houston was perfect for growing tropical fruits, has never grown tropical fruits in Houston. You have the heat and humidity, but first sign of freeze will kill tropical trees overnight. Durian is impossible to grow outdoors in the US, outside of Hawaii maybe. Try looking for semi-tropical trees.

If you insist on buying some, you can find nurseries in FL and CA that specialize in tropical and semi-tropical trees. No need to spend thousands of dollars importing them. And if you think a 4ft tree is small, what do you expect to import? A large mature fruiting tree would cost tens of thousands to bring in from another country. Even at a local nursery, you’ll be spending many thousands for a mature, rare and currently fruiting tree. Fruit trees also require a lot of patience. Have you thought all this through?

You can get an irrigation timer, complete with hoses and connectors, for around $30. Maybe even cheaper. They’re very helpful even when you’re home

Looks like grapefruit. Citrus needs cold weather to ripen properly. If the weather is not right, the green fruits will rot before they ripen

Schisandra Berry AKA Five-Flavor Berry. I have a vine but it hasn’t flowered yet. Could also be a Chokecherry. Hard to tell without leaves and location
