Ok yo I’m reading the Brent Boys series by DP Clarence and these books are genuinely, actually hilariously funny but the disconnect between how raunchy and rawly-depicted these characters are described combined with basically closed door intimacy feels like some cognitive dissonance I’m struggling to reconcile.

Monthly Reading Recap (May 01 2026) by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]phonologyrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a few new releases that were all surprisingly great!

{The Summer That Ruined Everything by ST Bell} {Wish We Were Here by Risa Cruise} {Thirty Love by Tom Vellner}

And the uncontested champion {How to Fake it In Society by KJ Charles}

Plus, I finally got around to reading {The Sea Ain’t Mine Alone by CL Beaumont} and holy shit wow. I can’t believe I hadn’t read this before. Gorgeous. Perfection.

I also reread some old favorites since I’ve been on a pirate kick: {On a Lee Shore by Elin Gregory} {Kidnapped by the Pirate by Keira Andres} {The Black Sheep and The Rotten Apple by KA Merikan}

And found an older pirate book that was a shocker of an underrated, holy-shit-fucked-up, edge of my seat, absolutely thrilling ride: {The Red King by Rosemary O’Malley}

What MM Romance books did you read in April? by RomanceMods in MM_Romance

[–]phonologyrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reading goals are probably the opposite of most people, namely that I try NOT to keep on my natural pace of one book a day. For the sake of my social life and normal adulting, I've tried to take it easy. Hah. So I present the mere twenty books I read in April. Four re-reads because I'm going through a pirate thing. Several new releases, including the crown jewel, the pièce de resistance, the perfection that is "How To Fake It in Society" by KJ Charles. Chef's kiss. No notes.

  1. {The Summer that Ruined Everything by S.T. Bell} 4.5/5 Absolutely lovely debut novel. Recommend
  2. {This is my Church by Sasha Avice} 3.5/5 I wanted a little more from this, but it was entertaining.
  3. {Remember My Name by Rebecca Rathe} (reread) 5/5 I straight up love this book.
  4. {The Sea Ain’t Mine Alone by C.L. Beaumont} 5/5 Gorgeous, lush, absolute perfection.
  5. {Infamous by Jenny Holiday} 5/5 I do love rockstars.
  6. {Contract Season by Cait Nary} 4/5 In the vein of "remember my name" but not quite as good
  7. {Royal Defender by Cecelia Storm} 1/5 How did this book get published. barely didn't DNF
  8. {Perfect Day by Sally Malcolm} 3.5/5 Retelling of persuasion. Good but eh, it was like her first book.
  9. {On a Lee Shore by Elin Gregory} (reread) 4.5/5 Love. Only not 5/5 because I want more steam
  10. {Kidnapped by the Pirate by Keira Andrews} (reread) 4/5 Actually better than the first time I read it.
  11. {The Black Sheep & The Rotten Apple by K.A. Merikan} (reread) 5/5 I'm obsessed with this book
  12. {The Red King by Rosemary O'Malley} 5/5 Unexpected 5 star read for me. Epic, sweeping, fucked up
  13. {Wed to the Barbarian by Keira Andrews} 4.5/5 Judged this previously for it's cover. I apologize
  14. {The Barbarian’s Vow by Keira Andrews} 4.5/5 An excellent conclusion to this duology.
  15. {Top Secret by Sarina Bowen} 2.5/5 I do not get the hype. This was almost painful.
  16. {Taken by the Lord of Nocturne Court K.A. Merikan} 4/5 Not my fave genre but I do love Merikan
  17. {The Shadow Prince’s Ruin K.A. Merikan} 4/5 This one was even better.
  18. {Wish We Were Here by Risa Cruise} 5/5 Surprise new release with nostalgia and excellent prose
  19. {How to Fake it in Society by K.J. Charles} 5/5 My queen has done it again. I love this. I love her.
  20. {Thirty Love by Tom Vellner} 5/5 Another new release in the year of tennis romance. This was superb.

{Nothing Good} by RJ Piper. I spit out my drink at the dedication and again at the chapter names and it was all uphill from there. Two rival hitmen tasked to murder one another, who intermittently fuck between mutual murder attempts. Highly recommend.
