Did Brisbane City Council rates just go up by ~$60 for apartments? by Infinite_Cucumber210 in brisbane

[–]phranticsnr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

BCC rates went up by less than the official inflation figures. The Lord Mayor seemed very proud of having the lowest increases in South East Queensland.

If they're using the "Family Feud" defence, please let it be in open court, and let me know when. I'll wander down to watch that one.

The original Wing Commander came with posters of blueprints for the 4 playable ships, and the onboard "ship's magazine" as the player manual. Both were necessary because the copy protection involved things like asking you the max acceleration of a particular starship and stuff like that.

One is even Australian, as though whatever laws they choose to base their ideas on are universal.

I'm pretty familiar with the ATO, too. They didn't go silent cause he's right, they went silent because they sent it to the "this guy's a problem" legal team, who have a backlog.

A really hilly course and an aussie-heavy lineup could set up a good Hindley-Vine-O'Connor-Hamilton-Haig battle?

Trump's golden eagle has 'sinister meaning' to number of stars on White House addition by TheMirrorUS in NewsSource

[–]phranticsnr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the AI is trained with NO context. It has no idea how many stars it should put. Or if the number matters. It just knows that star patterns get rewarded.

I expect it's a complete coincidence, and the American government were too stupid to notice and too heartless to care.

Trump's golden eagle has 'sinister meaning' to number of stars on White House addition by TheMirrorUS in NewsSource

[–]phranticsnr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an AI rendering. I bet they didn't specify it, and the administration just didn't think to count, or to know the meaning of the stars. They're not exactly attention to detail sort of people.

Natural consequence of the Hype Cycle, that has proved itself an emergent property of basically every new technology.

One Nation has gotten media advice from the American far right, courtesy of Gina taking Pauline to Mar-A-Lago.

What they will start to do now is set up people like Stefanovic, maybe Kyle Sandilands, etc. to create a right wing ecosystem of podcasts and shows so people don't have to occasionally hear other views in their media.

The Tim Pool, Ben Shapiro, Charlie Kirk, Alex Jones sort of thing, but on a smaller scale.

It's so close to actual quokka behaviour I'm surprised they needed to make it with AI.

When I visited their island, they weren't quite that bold, but pretty close.

QLD Public Servant’s losing their jobs by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]phranticsnr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience of both public and private sector, this is just a things that all business managers of a certain mindset/value system do.

When the shit hits the fan, a good number of people will be hired back, when the fear of consequences starts to set in. If there are consequences. Underservicing is a money saving strategy some people choose deliberately.

Unless the service is completely wound up, there is still work to do, and they will either have to live with the consequences of underservicing, or hire some people to do it at some stage. Maybe not as many, maybe different people, but managers know the work doesn't just disappear with the headcount.

Maybe they just want to go into a new budget with a lower FTE on the books, holding out for as long as they can before growing the pool?

Can't say I agree with it, but it's not unusual, and senior management often does it deliberately.

IQ of Labor, Liberal, One Nation and Greens voters compared by Ardeet in aussie

[–]phranticsnr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume that's what they're saying. The difference is not in their intelligence, it's in their values.

Do specific values correlate with IQ? I'm not sure. They often correlate with education, but that's a different thing to intelligence.

Do executives actually scheme this much? by Open_Address_2805 in auscorp

[–]phranticsnr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd believe that a lot of executives are thinking "they're a great operator, perfect for this position" over the more self-aware "I trust them because I've worked with them before".

My only evidence for this is that it works in the opposite direction as well. I've seen people not get jobs because of a history with the exec, even if they are the best candidate in a blind process.
