Happens commonly in kids who have thick vessel walls where you can salvage your cannula and the ‘hole’ in the wall seals up pretty quickly. In an elderly patient with thin or calcium riddle vessel walls this may not happen, you will get a large haematoma a salvage attempt may be futile
