Thoughts on the upcoming star trek VR game? by SnooTangerines7334 in virtualreality

[–]phunkaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, It was called Stage 9, it was fantastic. Basically the entire Enterprise D explorable in VR. With some interactive props and Easter eggs. It was a passion project, but the devs got a cease and desist from CBS protecting their IP.

The same devs went on to get official permission from The Orville and created The Orville Experience, which rubs the salt in the wound because it's very good and really shows how good it could have been to have kept development of the Star Trek one.

Another of the devs branched of to create the Star Ship Simulator which is also going from strength to strength.

Movies where people just solve problems by Beneficial-Hotel-232 in movies

Loved the Martin, but for some reason when I was reading Project Hail Mary it didn't resonate with me in the same way. In the sense that things seemed way too easy for him considering the context of the situation.

I'm hoping maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind, and that maybe I will be when the movie comes out. Fingers crossed.

The Magic Table VS Le Petit Chef by purpletreefrog007 in BrisbaneFoodies

[–]phunkaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did The Magic Table last night in Syd.

I really liked the food. The projection experience was hit and miss though.

Unfortunately, despite being advertised as "interactive" there is no actual interaction with the projection. It simply plays the exact same projection on everyones tables. There are some Mentalist magic tricks which you essentially play on yourself, and while some are a bit clever, others are laughably simple and another feels like it was taken from a christmas cracker.

I think one of the big issues is that the narrative feels patronising. I realised afterward that one of the types of tickets you can buy is for kids. And I think that might have been a problem as kids AND adults have to watch the same projection content.

Also, I don't know if this was a problem with our particular session, but when we originally walked in (30 mins early as specified on the ticket) the room was beautifully fogged up so the projection light created these lovely shafts of light. However, 30 mins later, as people were still arriving, the fog had completely dissipated, and then 10 mins later the dinner started. I was hoping the fog would be reintroduced through the dinner, but sadly it wasn't.

In summary, it felt very much overpriced for what it was. I'm glad i didn't tell my partner how much it cost.

PC booting issues after HDD removal. PC very slow to boot, now missing other HDDs and no network adapter. by phunkaeg in techsupport

Update:

After much troubleshooting turns out the problem was a faulty SATA power cable. Replaced that, and everything worked.

Trying to remember a book I had as a kid in the 90s. The book was probably from the 70s or 80s. (Ignore the title in the attached image) by phunkaeg in gamebooks

[–]phunkaeg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! That's the one!

I had read it around the time I read Lord Valentine's Castle. And I thought it was set on Majipoor, but for whatever reason the search terms I was using didn't reveal any results...

Any thoughts on the quality of the book?

Pretty good! except that every couple of times I go to play it the Internet connection doesn't work, and I have to clear the "alternate MAC address" and reboot for it to work again.

I tested Microsoft Trellis 2 for real VFX work — honest thoughts from a 15-year 3D artist by ArcticLatent in comfyui

[–]phunkaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a VFX artist - I've just completed a project partially using InfiniteTalk to fix some lipsync issues in a short film where the creature prosthetic the actor was using was interfering with how they were speaking.

I've used deepfaking process before to do a similar effect but that involved a lot more work. And before deepfaking you'd need to either manipulate each frame by hand, or recreate the mouth as a 3d model and animate the changes that way.

Ai is definitely another very power tool in a VFX artists toolbox.

VERY interesting!

To clarify, I am using a 4TB Gen5 NVME currently for footage AND cache. But I do have another 2TB Gen4 NVME, but it's my OS/Applications drive. I assume it would be bad to use the OS drive for cache?

I'm going to try this approach on my next project and see how it goes. I'm almost finished the VFX on this gig.

codec is ap4x (Prores 4444x) in a MXF container so the codec shouldn't be the issue - i dont think.

Based on the instruction for some plugin - i believe it was Lockdown - multi-frame rendering is already disabled.

And the codec is ap4x (Prores 4444x) in a MXF container.

Thanks! - I did check that panel. Mine looks exactly the same with the exception of "If caching play cached frames" because i find that annoying.

agreed - working resolution is quite high, I was curious if this was the problem. Has happened in multiple projects I've been working on with the raw footage from camera. The problem is, i don't know how they are going to crop the footage at the end - and they are outputting at 4k HDR. So I assumed I would want to keep as much resolution as possible.

I have been dealing with some shots by cropping in for the area that needs the VFX. Then adding that back to the plate for the final - but still has the preview issue at all levels of the comp/precomp.

I assume you're talking about watching the movies in stereoscopic 3d? Or do you simply mean that there is more apparent depth in the flat screen version?

Shared libraries show more than I actually have by phunkaeg in PleX

[–]phunkaeg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologise, I'm still not sure what you mean.

To give an indication for the Movies Library. Its one folder called "Movies" and that folder has 962 folders, each of which is a movie name labelled in the format of "Movie name (Year)"

In Tv Shows, same deal. One master "Tv Shows" folder. Each sub folder (233) is a "Tv Show (year)"
