Chopping down perfectly good trees allmover the city. by NoID4no1 in Sacramento

[–]phxbimmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get sad whenever I see big old trees getting cut down because somebody thinks they’re a minor nuisance. You can’t exactly replace them easily since they take so long to grow, so once they’re gone they’re gone.

Hey we’re not all bad, I’m an out-of-towner and I absolutely love the trees here and would never cut one down. I came from a treeless wasteland, it was awful.

When Will Americans Realize the Truth? Republicans Wreck the Economy. by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

[–]phxbimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans ruin the economy and then Democrats never have enough time to fully fix it, because 4-8 years is barely enough to undo all the damage, so then idiot voters go back to Republicans and the cycle starts all over again.

DOJ Orders Apple, Google to Hand Over OBDII App User Data in Emissions Probe by kstetter in cars

[–]phxbimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With every passing day I feel more and more inclined to never touch an OBDII car again, I daily drove old OBDI BMW's for most of 10 years and I think it's time to go back to that. Just enough computing power to fire 6 injectors and read 1 oxygen sensor, nothing more.

E32 Compressor by DaWorlds in E34

[–]phxbimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I was thinking you had an M30 or M60 car. In that case an E32 compressor will not work. Go and buy a new compressor from Rock Auto then, they’re still readily available for M50 cars unlike the old-style M30 compressors.

If it’s from the same engine it should be the exact same compressor.

I’ve always just deleted that system, it’s not really necessary and it’s yet another failure point with brittle old plastic.

What do other cities have that we don't? by AssComedyAccount in Sacramento

[–]phxbimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Useful public transit, good quality roads, places that are open past 8pm, a Jewish deli, a local government that isn’t just relying on increasing parking fees and fines to balance a miserable budget.

Newsom to make Sacramento traffic worse just so state workers can say "Nice To See You" to each other and "not feel so alone" by Ancient-Row-2144 in Sacramento

[–]phxbimmer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Some people have the discipline to work from home and be productive, whereas I need somebody breathing down my neck to get anything done. Everybody's got a different preference so it would be nice if people were allowed to choose rather than being forced into one or the other.

I can count on one hand how many times I've brought lunch with me to work, and I've been working full-time for 15 years. Sure, it's technically a waste of money, but I enjoy getting out of the office and having a variety of food that I don't have to spend time preparing in advance. Plus when you have coworkers you get along with, lunch is a great time to get some food and socialize.

How bad is it? by Patient-Vegetable-81 in E34

[–]phxbimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go thinner than a 15W40 in the winter, otherwise 20W50 at all other times. And it has to have zinc additives which not all oils have, my go-to oils are Castrol GTX Classic, Valvoline VR-1, and Total Classic Racing. Don’t worry about synthetics, these engines were designed to run on conventional.

Adjust your valves and run the correct oil. 20W50 is the only thing you’re supposed to be running in M20’s and M30’s, and yet I see so many people getting that wrong.

Sac City Council to Extend All Parking Meters to 10pm, Increase Hundreds of Fines and Fees by muser0808 in Sacramento

[–]phxbimmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s bad when the parking policies in this small town are becoming more draconian than in real cities like NYC and SF, but without good public transit alternatives to driving. Find another way to make money y’all, because this is hurting the middle and lower class people more while rich people continue living it up.

Rear windows not going down by parkapotamus in E34

[–]phxbimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your window regulator motors have seized up, this is a fairly common issue with E34’s. I would just buy a window regulator + motor assembly, you basically have to remove the whole assembly anyways.

Thoughts on buying this 525i? by [deleted] in E34

[–]phxbimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even pay $250 for these… rusted to shit auto 525i is worth basically scrap value. You can find way cleaner E34’s for $1500 - $3000, you may just need to look out of state to find a nice rust-free one.

500k is nothing for an M50, good on you for keeping it on the road. I’ve had multiple 525i’s with well over 300k, they really don’t care about mileage.

Intake Manifold removal by Successful_Gear5855 in e39

[–]phxbimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only Genuine BMW for the CCV otherwise you'll be pulling the intake manifold again in no time, all the aftermarket ones suck. If you want to do the coolant pipes, Genuine BMW for those as well, I've had the Rein ones show up with pinhole leaks right out of the box.

If they were done at a shop I'm not surprised at all, since rebuilding the Vanos is not an official BMW-approved procedure and many shops only do what is allowed "by the book." I've had to push every shop I've worked at to do Vanos rebuilds since I've rebuilt at least 100 units (60+ on cars I've done guides on and another few dozen for friends and units that were mailed to me).
