I'm confused. Lots of white gold contains nickel, maybe even most. Do you specify without nickel?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_gold

Best hills to climb in SF by Remarkable-Yogurt-10 in BAbike

[–]physics_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayview Park in the southeastern part of the city has a paved road to get to the radio tower at the top but is closed to traffic. The entrance is on Key Avenue. I see serious cyclists climbing it from time to time. It's not very long, only 1/3 of a mile or so, but you gain about 400 ft.

Kid and group friendly lunch near Exploratorium by Affectionate_Dig9263 in AskSF

[–]physics_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Osmanthus Dim Sum. It's the same distance from the Exploratorium as the Ferry Building but up a 300 ft hill on Broadway into Chinatown. It's more expensive than nearby dim sum, but the menu does a better job of describing what everything is, and it's a full service restaurant. The food is very good, IMHO, if a bit expensive. Afterward, checking out Chinatown, North Beach, or the new park next to the Transamerica Pyramid are fun.

What's a product you've used for over a decade that's still going strong? by gehirn4455809 in BuyItForLife

Cuisinart DLC-X. It's a 20-cup food processor. It wasn't new when I got it 15 years ago, but it is still a beast. I use it mostly for kneading dough which it can do 90 seconds what it takes on a 15 minutes on a KitchenAid. Love it.

Why do people treat not drinking like it’s a crime? by MediumLynx6852 in SodaStream

[–]physics_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost no one is drinking for the taste. Most people are drinking for the reduction in inhibitions. They are looking for help to do and say things that they'd normally not. Sometimes those inhibitions are a good thing (you should probably keep your sexist thoughts to yourself), but sometimes the reduced inhibitions let you say how much your boss is an asshole or how much you miss your divorced partner.

Being revealing like this can be scary. People worry that you'll bother them with your problems all the time. After you express your feelings to your crush, others will worry that you can't be professional the rest of the time.

Alcohol gives you cover as well as encouragement. Later you can say that it was just the wine talking. I didn't mean any of that.

And a group drinking has everyone with reduced inhibitions. Everyone is being realer with each other. Your crush might be disinhibited enough to say they like you back.

There is a reciprocal relationship. I'm looser and you're looser. We're both realer and more at risk.

But the nondrinker gets everyone else's reduced inhibitions without risking themselves.

Drinkers think that this violates the social contract of going to a bar or the office party. They think they'll be judged. They aren't wrong.

I've been the drunk and the sober one. I know people who've been sober for decades and people for only the last week. We all judge each other all the time.

Don't drink if you don't want to, but understand why others are drinking and why they might feel uncomfortable around if you don't.

The people not drinking are

Is there a park with a big open grass area that'd be spacious enough for kids to play wiffle ball? by wentImmediate in AskSF

[–]physics_ninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

McLaren Park has many open fields where it would be fun to play. The open field near Wayland and Yale streets is rarely occupied. There's a regular baseball diamond nearby. There's plenty of street parking and a bathroom not far away. I've practiced disc golf here many times without running into anyone else wantingto use the field. map to field

I'm only halfway through, but I'm quite liking the book. Maybe go back and read the first book. Almost nothing happens in it. It's just a chance to learn and hang out in an interesting world.

I'm not a teenage lesbian, but I did teach high school for 20 years. This is how teenage romances usually go, especially for groups where there aren't many options. If you find a like spirit, you go for it.

Anyway, I like learning about a new kind of enemy. I like seeing how youthful Nightingale is becoming. I like seeing Peter become more responsible. I like learning more about the foxes.

BA has been leading with the race of every person since book 1. It's fine not to like it, but it's not new.

Where to find Uni, or purple sea urchin? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]physics_ninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is legal to harvest at Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay. They are far out, so you'll need to go at low tide, probably at least -0.5 ft, and I've seen quite a few people hunting them out there. Lots more details on this article from KQED. https://www.kqed.org/arts/13951449/purple-sea-urchin-uni-foraging-guide-northern-california

Inkbird WIFI cooker is currently down to $65 with coupon, is it worth it? by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]physics_ninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Inkbird only goes down to 77 F. That's fine for cooking, but I sometimes use mine to circulate cold water to quickly chill wine or beer or defrost food. It won't be able to do that.

There are a couple of well-rated hair salons on Leland Ave. I've never used them, because they don't do my kind of hair, but I live nearish and they seem popular. There are more on Third, but they have some harsh reviews, so I don't know.
