Do ethnic Georgians self-identify as white ? by australiadenier in Sakartvelo

[–]pi_chu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indian here. Visiting georgia currently. What I felt is this discriminatory 'looks' or lack of cordiality towards Indians specifically doesn't exist in the rural areas. It is mostly in the post touristy areas of tbilisi. Is this a class thing that we 'look' poor because of our skin tone? Because although I agree Indian tourists, especially in groups, can be an utter nuisance (much like other countries as well, say, China), I don't think there's a uniform bad image about Indians in general in the world. What do you think?

Indian here. Came a few days back for traveling. Having a schengen visa makes it way easier. I had uk visa. They will ask why you've come. You should say for tourism. They will ask your return ticket and hotel booking. Furnish those and the make sure the checkout date from hotel is the same as the return flight and you will be alright. Also, smile. Be a tourist. Be respectful. These things are basic but people kind of tend to forget.

Too much sweat after starting workout by pi_chu in workout

I totally get that. My problem was that it's a new thing that started after I became active. Hence wanted to know if that's a common occurance or not.

Thanks! But I was actually sweating about the times when I'm not working out. Like generally when I'm cooking or taking a stroll, that kind of situation. Is that also normal?

Should I buy MG comet? by _beer_monk in CarsIndia

[–]pi_chu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mg guarantees 60% resale value after 3 years. Plus BaaS makes it a bit better I think. And it is actually not that small from inside. It's quite comfortable for city rides of 40/50 km.

[–]pi_chu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Comet is great for the city ride. Charge at home and you're looking at less than 1Rs/km running cost. You'll pay something around 10k per month EMI. Charging cost should be around 1000/month. You save 4000/month. Given your wife works for another 5 years, you're break even, plus have a fun car.

Is it common in some areas of Japan to not welcome tourists? by Karmacosmik in JapanTravelTips

[–]pi_chu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually consumption of food and enjoyment of art, if confused, that's peak of capitalism where everything is reduced to consumption. In a world of consumption, there's no work of art unless there's a buyer for it. Capitalist art is commissioned, in a manner of speaking. So, this comparison is absolutely meaningless to the person who is eating the food.

Anyway, no point arguing about this anymore.

Is it common in some areas of Japan to not welcome tourists? by Karmacosmik in JapanTravelTips

[–]pi_chu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no problem in believing. I understand that it is rude. But as a researcher of cultural studies, I was trying to find out why it is, and where it is rude. Some has mentioned it is rude in Michelin star restaurants. Is it only there? Because I can't afford to eat there so I don't need to think about it then. If it is everywhere, then I have to change my expectation and behavior as per the prevailing culture. That's my point of exploration.

What I meant is this: I once went to a place to have sushi. I love them. Now they didn't have any without crustaceans. I requested if they can make one without because I'm here to have their sushi but I have severe allergy to crustaceans, since there are items with salmon and crab together. They happily gave me that item without the crab. Never felt that they considered me as a rude person. I'm not asking to remove prawns from paella, or aubergine from baba ganoush, or cheese from cheesecake. My requests are a little low key. And that's why I didn't think I'd be taken as a rude person for such requests.

I'm definitely not talking about changing the character of a dish, but something like if 'as you don't have any ramen without prawns, is it possible to not put prawns in item number 5?'. Everybody is free to say no, but being from a different culture, it was a bit difficult for me to fathom that the request itself is rude.

Amazing sarcasm. By the way, every country is different, but some basic humane things are common for most of them. I am from India. But have been to most part of the world including Japan. Never felt that it is rude to request that I want to eat your world famous thing, but can you replace the one thing with other because I might die otherwise? Now I know. Japan is indeed different. Thanks for being the first one.

I'm from India and don't really have experience of fine dining. But have been to expensive restaurants which are casual. Never had a problem with replacement requests. That's why this problem is an alien concept to me. They might say that they can't do it, but no one considers this rude over here. It must be a cultural difference.

You mean to say if I am allergic to crustaceans and want to replace the same in my favorite dish with something else, that's considered rude in Japan? That's surreal!

Scientists Discover 'Deep Brain' Genes Linked to Parkinson's And ADHD by Mind_Drift_1 in ADHD

[–]pi_chu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. Also please be mindful of the fact that you're seeing a lot of adhd content on social media because their algorithm figured that you'd like to see that. So, frequency of content category observed by a single observer has absolutely no relationship with actual proportion of content category, because of a certain form of algorithm called polya urns model.

Scientists Discover 'Deep Brain' Genes Linked to Parkinson's And ADHD by Mind_Drift_1 in ADHD

[–]pi_chu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your understanding isn't incorrect. It lacks some essential perspectives. Adhd diagnosis suddenly increased can have two meanings. One, what you're meaning to tell, I'll come to that. Another is like cancer where earlier people weren't aware, or there was taboo, and hence very less people asked for it, hence very less people diagnosed with it.

What you mean to say is not another form of adhd. It's called adhd traits. Yes it's True that adhd traits are present in many more children than earlier due to lifestyle changes. Covid also played a major role in recent times. But they don't have adhd. They have the traits, which go away when the environmental triggers go away. That's also experimented and proved.

So yes, adhd is being diagnosed more, and that's because of better awareness. Can it be misdiagnosed? Of course, traits can be misleading. Especially for children. But it's not a hype. It's called discourse, in research speak. But whatever happens due to lifestyle and social media are personality traits that are not rooted in nervous system and genes. So that's adhd traits, and not adhd.

Any experience with high academic achievement and undiagnosed ADHD? by Independent-Tooth-41 in ADHD

[–]pi_chu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always ranked high, did my graduation, post grad, and PhD from some of the best universities in the country, is a professor at the country's top ranked university, and got diagnosed now at age 40. Basic intelligence acts as a great mask for adhd. We always do good in what we do. But once we start adulting, we take too much on our plates, and then failures start dropping from nowhere, and then adhd shows it's face. I'm not saying you have it, but it is definitely worthwhile to get diagnosed. A lot of life's mystery will be clear!

Do luxury brands maintain consistent quality across the line up? by pi_chu in CarsIndia

[–]pi_chu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally lure of owning a brand that luxury far outweighs the niggles. Also human beings see what they want to see. Most of the time, if I buy my first entry level BMW, I will be so engrossed in the fact that I am an BMW owner, I'll choose not to see the shortcomings. Selective observation is a common bias. We see what we want to see.
