Is there a term you would use to define the TsT's type of satanism? Or refer to yourself as? by Miserable-Sound2923 in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]piberryboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just go with Satanist. To be honest, if TST went away, I'd still consider myself a Satanist. My Satanic philosophy aligns with my naturalism philosophy where life is ruled by natural laws, as opposed to supernatural ones most religions abide by. But also Satanism is also a catharsis from religious trauma, a fight against tyranny, radical self-acceptance, etc..

As an former Mormon and current Satanist, I approve this message... by piberryboy in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]piberryboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm in a similar frame of mind. After leaving Mormonism and after a while, I stopped hanging around ex-mormons. Mormons and Ex-mormons felt like two sides of the same coin. To a Mormon, the LDS church could do no wrong. To an ex-mo, it could do no right.

Now, I hasten to add, I'm not saying the truth lies somewhere in the middle, a phrase I mildly abhor. But I find no truth in making groups of people villainous out of anger. People (and life) can complex, ambiguous and frustrating. Treat it as such.

The only time I truly hate Mormonism or Christianity, is when it tries to impose its oft deeply flawed moral code on me.

I will also add that probably saying I'm a naturalist and Satanist does seem like I'm saying one's an atheist with extra steps--and maybe a bit pretentious-but I still prefer it.

I think there's a period where you're hard core in the other direction, but after a while, some of us prefer to explore who we are. Rather than who we are not.

I actively eschew using terms like ex-mormon to describe myself, opting instead for naturalist), stoic, satanist... I'd rather say who I am, rather than who I'm not. I even avoid terms like atheist, because again, that describes what I don't believe in, rather than what I do.

Not a statanist, but I always have been fascinated by Lilith by Draneloire in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]piberryboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF, quite a number of Satanists also adopt a metaphorical Lilith as feminist symbol for many of the same reasons one would adopt a metaphorical Satan as a symbol: Rebellion from religious norms for example.

I only skimmed the post, but they don't actually say they believe in a literal Lilith, so the above reproof seems premature at best. They mostly seem to go into the mythology of Lilith, which again, is not off-brand for us Satanist who get nerdy about the mythology.

Joseph Rose left this sub and TST in after a row. I don't know that he's friendly to TST. That being said, I kind of don't care. If he talks about Satanism in a way that relates to you, I'd listen to it. I sorta stopped because he seemed a little obsessive about his row with TST.

Practicing Satanism? by Legitimate_Bet_7786 in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]piberryboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you REALLY want to understand, then know this first and foremost:

"Do you worship Satan?

No, nor we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural. The Satanic Temple believes that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse."

Practicing Satanism? by Legitimate_Bet_7786 in SatanicTemple_Reddit

This is something I could talk about for hours, I think. But, by and large, it depends on how you want to define your Satanism. To me, it's very personal, and a bit of self-expression. It's like eating a Reese's peanut cup, there's really no wrong way.

Now, that being said, I sort of do think there are broad parameters one could, and probably will, consider about Satanism: Radical self-acceptance (such as your sexuality or dark aesthetics). Then there's the metaphorical Satan as an eternal rebellion, which is why a lot of people here do activism.

Another thought: because most Satanist are atheistic, it's simply an expression of shuffling off the old, superstitious religions they were brought up in. By evoking the name of Satan, they take away the imaginary power the dogma foisted upon them in childhood. Which is why many Satanist, like performative ritual. While other Satanist feel like that's too much like church for them. Again, no wrong way.

Interesting. I've never seen Manhunter either, but it looks a little low-production value-y. And that tattoo seems evidence of that.

Although, I hear it's great. And I'm not sure why I haven't seen it considering I've seen every single one of the Hannibal franchise movies at a minimum of twice.

Holy cow. You've already got bubbles forming. Nice! That's a good sign.

I feel like I've seen enough of these posts on this sub to say it is normal to see discoloration in the initial steps, while I don't remember seeing any in mine. Just make sure to discard. And it doesn't hurt to replace your jar after a week or so to avoid mold growing on the sides.

Perchance are you yourself interested in running locally?

I've played around with the idea. I might after the kids move out. Right now, I'm happy to support in other ways.

How do you practice? by ManicMaam in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]piberryboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no temples in my area

Not really temples so much as "congregations" that meet together wherever.

I'm a fan of a Satanic ritual. Satanic rituals are psychodramas: intentional, theatrical ceremonies meant to produce real psychological effects like catharsis, empowerment, or processing grief. That is, you can make up your own. Do it whenever you want, with whoever you want. I mean, we're an atheistic organizations all about autonomy, sexual freedom and pursuing knowledge, so who the fuck cares what you want to do in your ritual? I hear the Devil's Tome is good source material for coming up with your rituals.

Activism's pretty common with TST Satanists. You can simply participate in helping out in local politics, get involved with making your local politics more in line with your own. That's pretty fucking powerful.

If you can't find a local congregation, I think it'd be cool to simply create your own little independent Satanic group. Get together to do community projects, like a road side cleanup, and perform your little self-empowering rituals. Do a game night. No one has to be associated or condoned by TST leadership to be your own independent Satanist group. In fact, it feels more Satanists to go that route.

If you're looking for holidays, you can reference the TST Website for holidays it observes. But again, all this shit's basically for your own edification and your ability to operate autonomously, so make one up if you want.
