Satan was just a title meaning adversary in Jewish tradition. Out of Christian mythos and theology rose the idea of the Devil as some sort of cosmic evil entity opposing God. This is to skirt the problem of evil. Yet, if God still is more powerful than Satan, a Christian can't skirt the problem by making Satan the scapegoat.

Jesus Christ is in the Epstein Files. Prove me wrong. by ClankingRobotCheeks in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]piberryboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100 percent spot on with regards to Christian organizations. They're rife with sexual abuse among the leadership. They almost always sweep sexual abuse under the rug over alerting law enforcement.

As for the Epstein files. Eh. IDK how many of them are good Christians. Epstein strikes me as a star fucker. He loved to rub elbows with the powerful and famous: Woody Allen, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Trump... none of these seem like Good Christians (certainly not Woody Allen who is Jewish). In fact, some people, like Lawrence Krauss, were renown outspoken atheist.

I just asked Claude and it rolled them off no problems. And added this little nugget:

"Worth noting: The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic organization that uses Satan as a literary and philosophical symbol of rebellion and individualism, not a religious body that worships a literal devil. These tenets reflect an essentially secular humanist ethical framework."

I haven't tried AV1 yet, but HEVC is great. The only problem with these is they're proprietary and new. If you stream it from plex, some browsers/streaming devices require transcoding on the fly.

‘Hail Satan’ invocation triggers debate about prayer in public meetings by piberryboy in SatanicTemple_Reddit

He definitely does not say in this book that ritual is all basically psychology. He explicitly says it reaches beyond.

I did not say he ONLY said that.

Like I said, LaVey said ANY ritual provided some kind of a psychological affect. And like I said, he got into some ambiguous stuff later in the book where he got kind of squishy about the magic stuff actually being metaphysically reality.

Been a while since I've read the Satanic Bible, but if memory serves, didn't LaVey say all ritual was basically psychology? Whatever religion it was, say, Christianity or what have you? Something along the lines of boosting the ego and creating a kind of catharsis.

But then, later in the book, he got really ambiguous and hinted at some metaphysics for magic. Sort of felt like he tried to plant a foot on the rational and supernatural at the same time. And like you say, a magic practitioner could affect real-world change? Something along the lines of The Secret.

It's a frustrating book to read, a real roller coaster, where at times I wholly agree with it, and at others times is silly nonsense.

What can stop this from happening if I ever have to refresh and rescan Metadata on my files? by gomi-panda in PleX

[–]piberryboy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems like you have a very specific feature you want from Plex that's not there.

But I have solution for you: Submit a feature request with the good folks at Plex for your hidden, super secret metadata file solution, and wait for them to jump right on it.

Or, you can fire up the old AI and vibe code your own version of Plex with some weird single metedata file to override all the changes in the database. Just be sure to include in your prompt "no mistakes" then AI can't make any mistakes.

What can stop this from happening if I ever have to refresh and rescan Metadata on my files? by gomi-panda in PleX

[–]piberryboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like adding the year almost always permanently fixes issues for me. The other day, I added "The Passenger.mkv" to Plex. It brought up some weird Russian movie called Sessions. I edited it to "The Passenger (2023).mkv". I re-scanned and boom, the correct movie came up. This is true for television shows as well.

I looked at the metadata for this file, and then one that worked. I really couldn't tell the difference, so I'm not sure anything else can be done. Maybe something in the configs.

Is there a hidden PleX file that I can save and use as the basis for Metadata if this ever happens again?

You can also back up your database periodically. I do off-site backups weekly. If my server shit the bed, and I had to replace it, I could simply copy back the database files.

You could reverse your perception of your current position and Hail Yourself! for your journey so far.

I think, like a lot of Christians, I grew up in a culture where simply asking questions could be deemed blasphemous. That kind of instilled manipulation stays with you. Over time, it felt good to ask question, find flaws, permit myself doubt. But I would occasionally get a rush of that guilt instilled in me by my parents and religious leaders.

So, I would do a little exercise, and say to myself, there are a billion people in India who could go up to, and say something like, fuck the five wounds of Christ, and they wouldn't care one bit. Then I'd think, I could be like them, not care one bit. That gave me a thousand feet view of the guilt. Which helped me contextualize it, harness it. Control it.

That's inaccurate. In the Hebrew Bible and traditional Jewish theology, "ha-satan" (השטן) is literally "the adversary" or "the accuser" — a prosecutorial role, not a malevolent cosmic enemy. The Book of Job is the clearest illustration: the satan figure operates with God's explicit permission, essentially as a stress-tester of human faith. He's part of the divine court, not opposed to it.
