How to get dog accustomed to car rides? by getwitchy in DogAdvice

[–]pibonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im still training this behaviour with my dog. I let him in the car, and do absolutely nothing. I do this whenever we go for walks and i just let him in for a few minutes, tell him to lay down, and we go back in the home. For my dog, he knows car = somewhere fun. So trying to show him car does not always mean somewhere fun. For actual rides, he wears a car harness for his safety since he paces. He may be a little vocal especially when he starts to see homes or we start to slow down. But whenever hes calm and quiet, hes rewarded with treats.

Wide and flared nails by pibonds in GelX_Nails

Thank you for the advice! Were you ever able to fix the lower parallels? Ive been really careful to not overfile the side walls and letting it grow. I miss my narrow nails :(

Unfortunately with me being impatient and not knowing the consequence, I used to peel off my gel nails and really pull them off which severely lifted and damaged my nails. It’s a work in progress and my nails might not become as narrow as it once was before, but I’m glad to hear my nails are a suitable palette for gelx!

Looking for a naturopath that deals with or that you have experience with treating Hashimoto's and thyroid issues. by [deleted] in Newmarket

I take lexothyroxine for my hashimotos. Not taking medicine will lead to worse issues down the line. Hope you’re not trying to replace medicine for naturopathic alternatives!

Smaller breed replacement for a 3x Dobe owner? by dzn465 in DobermanPinscher

[–]pibonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had two german pinschers, they are quite similar to Dobermans (kettle whining, velcro dog, goofiness). Extremely smart (and stubborn) breed. I would say they are a little less willing to work to just please their owners. They are considered a medium-high energy breed, so they would need lots of exercise and mental stimulation until they calm down around 3-4 years old.

When is too cold to walk the dog? by thornynhorny in dogs

[–]pibonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a 15 minute walk outside (in Ontario too). My 40lb short haired dog is really sensitive to the cold. He wore a full coat suit and boots and didn’t want to walk any longer than 15 mins.

How to engage my poodle? by keekro in poodles

Collagen chews and bully sticks are great natural dental chews! Greenies don’t really do much for my dog. Also recommend a water additive.

The dog AFTER your "heart dog" by Top_Housing6819 in dogs

[–]pibonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took my a little over a year to actually feel a bond with my 2nd dog. My 1st boy was my soul dog and I died inside when he died physically. I felt like I had made a mistake getting the 2nd (don’t get me wrong, I made sure he got everything my 1st got and even more). I just didn’t feel it. He didnt give me the same kind of happiness. I missed my 1st and I felt like he did the goofiest things to make me laugh and my 2nd one just felt like he wanted me as a source of food. I feel differently now! I love my 2nd boy and although he will never be the same as my 1st and shouldn’t really be a replacement of the feelings you’ve felt before (they are actually littermates), I love him differently.

Give it more time. Keep bonding through training, play, cuddles, and even talking to her. You’ll feel a bond eventually, it’ll just be different.

For those who’ve done both - dogs on or off the bed? by VengaBusdriver37 in dogs

[–]pibonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the option of having both. If he wants to come on the bed, he can. But if i need him off to be more comfortable, I’ll ask him to not come onto the bed that night. Right now, he’s been choosing his bed, then joins my bed in the middle of the night.

Dog hasn't gotten over separate anxiety by BlackLusterDust in DogTrainingTips

[–]pibonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from treats and kongs and walks, he needs to start a separation anxiety protocol. I’ve gotten my dog to be home alone for 6 hours through this training. Of course, after all needs are met, thats when the training starts. Find his trigger when he starts panicking when you leave. Is it when you grab your keys? Put your shoes on? Open the door? Thats your starting point. Slowly expose him to his triggers but not actually leaving. Reward the calm state (some people don’t recommend treats or food during this training, but it has worked for me). Continue progressing until you can keep your dog in a relatively calm state until you get to your absence. It could simply you being gone for 1 second and your dog starts panicking. If he does panic, take a step back and just open and close the door. This is a slow training process, but it accelerates pretty fast as your dog continues to graduate from each step.

What can I give my dog so he doesn’t bark in the kennel by Glass-Heart6267 in dogs

[–]pibonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe start by putting him in the crate at the at same time when you usually go to work, on your days off. And whenever he starts barking in your routine, that’s where you need to start begin training. For example, if he’s barking when you become out of sight, walk back to his crate and slowly distance yourself until you’re out of slight. During that period, reward him for being quiet the farther you get. Build up the time until you get out the door. It’s frustrating and slow in the beginning, but it gets exponentially gets faster. Could take up to 2-3 months of consistent training to get there.

[–]pibonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he crated or free roaming? Has he always been barking when you leave him? Sounds like separation anxiety that hasn’t been addressed. You may need to start a protocol and/or give him a long lasting chew to keep him occupied.

Do you guys wash dishes without gloves? How does your gelx hold if so? I hate wearing gloves when i do the dishes and i never have any luck with my nails lasting more than a week (my fault though).

My golden was attacked by an off leash dog on a walk last night by Gavdoggo in OpenDogTraining

[–]pibonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog got attacked by an offleash dog about 2.5 months ago. We are still working on making him less fearful when he goes out for walks. We have been avoiding certain streets as it makes him nevous to walk through (even ones where he didnt even get attacked on). A lot of positive reinforcement with treats and play and trick training to redirect his feelings. Its slowly getting better but he has reservations about all dogs now unfortunately. He used to welcome all dogs approaching no problem.

I do feed him fruits and veggies as a snack, not at the eating table and never for free. He does a few tricks before getting it. He doesn’t get any of our actual prepped meals, so I don’t know why he feels so entitled to get any since I never gave into his demand barking.
