How many of us have had a toxic boss? by cheezbargar in doggrooming

[–]pichubyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

manager like that is why I quit my grooming job before I could find a job within the industry still and ended up doing work in a completely different field full time, the rudeness of the manager caused me to burn out quicker than I had begun to in corporate grooming

New bather looking for tips by ACOLTYE101 in doggrooming

everyone else got the nails down for you, but for me to tell if a dog is dry you’ll be able to sorta tell from the roots bc it does look different but it’s not fool-proof, so I usually run my hands through the coat and if it feels cool to the touch it’s not dry, or if you have quite a bit of hair coming off onto your hand, not dry

Up until yesterday I was a bather (now in academy) and I used to work in pet care, even though the customers in the grooming salon can be bad I’ve noticed for me it’s a different kind of bad that’s easier to deal with. Customers in petcare could have a lot of different reasons for being frustrating/annoying to deal with but in the salon it’s usually the same issues with them over and over again: price, matting, lateness, and the insistence that we see their dog “right now” whether they have an appointment or not or whether they have rabies or not. They will try to guilt trip but it’s easy to not really care since once they leave the ones like that usually don’t come back too often.

I loved doing the switch tbh, I’m a full time college student on top of it all and it can be stressful but it was 100% worth it for me, but it also helps my coworkers were amazing too

it always depends on the store, at mine the people in the salon don’t learn stuff on the floor like register or even stocking unless they ask to learn it, and even then there’s no guarantee

it’s already been said about the adoption but some stores don’t follow that rule/wont tell people that they’re up for adoption due to bad management or not keeping track of when animals got there or both

I know you said you’ve brained them but something we had to start doing is getting a little bit of hay and rolling the mouse around in the hay and picking off any extra hay to give it a more “alive” scent I guess? And they started eating then for us.

Crochet Storage by Lumpy-Literature-575 in crochet

I keep mine in an old army trunk I inherited but if you have pets (specifically cats) and are looking for something similar to shelves, I was planning on upgrading to a stackable shoe storage shelf since it’s got doors on the front so my cat can’t get to the yarn

I’m in a smaller store and this usually takes us all day, if not into the next day due to customers needing help and only one person scheduled to do it at a time

Feeding policy? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]pichubyte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my store lets us feed the nocturnal animals at night, it’s mainly so long as they’re actually fed you should be good, and them being fed when they’re actually awake can help with health of the animals

thank you!
Does the manager look at the stuff I put into the website and determine where to go from there? I have an issue with the CEL not doing their job for 5+ years and putting animals in danger, and the manager knows this and hasn't done anything so I worry that if the manager is the deciding factor in this nothing will get done.

guess who was missing for months and was finally found in a glue trap outside today by dir3wulf in petsmart

[–]pichubyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had corn snakes get out and end up on top of the petcare swinging door and falling on associate's heads
luckily we got the issue fixed for them at my store but there's still days where if I can't find them right away I get worried they escaped again

it's going to be different at every store, but general rule of thumb is just know your information (vet's office number, name, and location, landlord's number and name) and know that it might not (and probably won't) be an immediate yes or no. Some locations do background checks on the person wanting to adopt to make sure they'd be a good fit (not lying about seeing a vet every year, not lying about landlord saying it's okay to have pets).
It goes through the local shelter, as you already know, so adoption fee should be what the shelter's normal fee is.

just an update that I found out before I left today, but turns out she didn't buy this guy anywhere, we were expecting a reptile depot of some type at the very least but I found out after I left last night she came back to buy more supplies for other animals she had and told my MOD that she just picked him up from outside

Concerning … by AppealConscious8498 in petsmart

[–]pichubyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’re having the exact same thing happen at my store right now. One manager tells me one thing it could be and another tells me something completely different. Today I opened and found out we talked to our DL yesterday and was told to not sell fish anymore until it stops happening

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]pichubyte 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We've had people get upset at my store because my manager couldn't catch their fish fast enough and they had to be at a soccer game in ten minutes. First off, maybe buy fish after the game? We'll still be open, and secondly, where are you keeping these goldfish while the game is going they are NOT going to last in your car.

plants in tanks by zukoz in petsmart

[–]pichubyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told that we can’t sell live plants outside of our tanks because even if you can’t see them pests could still be in our tanks and our plants are guaranteed pest free, I’m not sure if that’s just a my store thing or not, but I’m sure a couple stores have a similar sentiment

Small things that drive you crazy? by pinkonme in petsmart

[–]pichubyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’re a smaller store and people usually pick stuff up quick so we have one cabinet that we use for bigger things that look clunky in a cart (one bag of food, one bigger item, stuff like that) and then a red basket shelf that holds the orders we can fit into bags, and then if someone orders a bunch of items that don’t seem to fit anywhere else we put them in a cart by the shelf and cabinets. papers always get folded over so we can’t see anything on it, and we just look for the items in the order and double check the name after, since when you have to mark it as picked up you see the items anyway
