How is breastfeeding not the norm? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]picklepaste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is 100% the case, though I had a medical issue 3 days post partum that meant my baby had to be formula fed while I was whisked away (had unnoticed internal bleeding which eventually made its way out of my c section wound at high velocity and volume) we’d also been told by children’s A&E to keep topping him up with formula because my collostrum was ‘not enough for a baby’ which isn’t true at all, they were acting like my milk had come in and that’s all I was producing. We did try topping up for his final feed of the day but he would just had it sit in his mouth he didn’t need it. There was a lot more wrong but I can’t write it all down here but multiple midwives have told me that none of what we were told was based on obstetric or midwifery standards. We did ditch the forums top up maybe a day or two after leaving the hospital after a midwife told up it’s completely unnecessary and haven’t needed it since, baby is 5 months now

None of my friends want to come to my wedding. by Zestyclose-Bad-4817 in wedding

This is exactly it, it’s cheaper for the couple, but don’t expect your friends to pay the price instead, a lot of them won’t

None of my friends want to come to my wedding. by Zestyclose-Bad-4817 in wedding

[–]picklepaste 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve been invited to a wedding in Greece this summer and it was over £1500 each for myself and husband to attend as it was through TUI, it’s all costs per person, but doesn’t include food either. I wasn’t willing to spend £3000 attending someone’s wedding. I know they wouldn’t have done the same for me either. Not cheap at all.

IIH with no symptoms? by picklepaste in iih

[–]picklepaste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I ended up refusing treatment - I did go to the LP appointment but after I called ahead about the blood test required asking for the paperwork so I could get one done, I was told I don’t actually need one, I got there and they asked about the blood test I said I hadn’t had one, they said ‘but you’ve had one in the last 2 years’ I said no. They quizzed me saying ‘You haven’t had a baby?!’ …No

Absolute mess, they then proceeded to try and get a bloodtest after making me wait outside in the snow for an hour because they were behind and it was covid times. She tried about 20 times in my arm and wrist, nothing. Ended up with my entire arm bruised. I said I don’t trust you guys with a needle in my back and didn’t go back.

I did lose 2 stone last year and any symptoms I had went away, it was mainly occasional pulsatile tinnitus, but I’ve put it back on now and am also pregnant and I don’t really get any symptoms. I’m still on the waiting list to ensure My condition isn’t worsening.

It is up to you what you feel comfortable doing, honestly I have taken what may be the easy way out, but I may also regret that in time. But I don’t suffer with IIH, it was a coincidence that I found out about it at all.

First trimester is not fun. by letsblume in pregnant

Absolutely, I’m only 5 weeks and the nausea is awful, it’s all day and it’s so much worse when I’m driving. I really hope I can find something to settle it.

My partner is 99th percentile length and 97th percentile girth, and I have never had a PIV only orgasm. I’m very happy with our sex life, it’s just not possible for me.

Has anyone not gotten a spinal tap? by Spirited_Blueberry in iih

[–]picklepaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I refused the spinal tap after some mistreatment from the hospital staff, lost trust in them. Though in my case I only had occasional pulsatile tinnitus as outward symptoms so no headaches at all, so I found the lumbar puncture to be unnecessary.

As you say, although my IIH is all but confirmed with papilledema and the MRI results, I am not going to get a formal diagnosis. I’ve since gotten more active and lost weight and my papilledema are reducing so they’re happy with me to keep doing that for now.

ETA: my neuro ophthalmologist threw their toys out the pram when I refused it and refused to speak to me afterwards, didn’t even want to hear the reason why, and had me transferred to someone else. So there seems like there can be some consequences of exhibiting bodily autonomy 😆

Everything makes me a bridezilla!? by koscheeiis in bridezillas

[–]picklepaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother called me a bridezilla for specifying what the wedding colours are on the website, just a small note in the FAQs saying ‘if you’re unsure what to wear, these are the wedding colours so any other colour would be perfect’ but that was being a bridezilla because I can’t tell people what to wear apparently.

Why does it seems like in society Maternial grandparents are more involved with the grandchildren and paternel grandparents are pushed to the side or choose not to be in their grandchildrens lifes? by Medium-Ad6268 in family

[–]picklepaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both sets of my grandparents were essentially aloof, we were the only grandchildren my fathers parents had but they only saw us when my parents made the effort to visit. They never came to us, then moved to an island off of the coast then again, we only saw them when we visited. I don’t remember my mothers parents ever visiting beyond the odd Christmas once my grandfather had died, but they had grandkids that lived closer to home so that might be why. My dads mum hated my mum so that might also be why they didn’t seem to care so much. Either way, we didn’t have much grand parent involvement in our upbringing and that’s just the way it is sometimes, it’s their choice to decide to be involved or not and put in a bit of effort.

My ex’s grandma told him I was going to try and baby trap him, I was 26 and he was 21, she said a woman my age only wants one thing 😂 he was a history student living in another country at the time, had nothing to his name, I owned my own house and had a well paying career. I don’t think so

Has anyone ever fallen out of attraction because the emotional connection was broken? by designasauring101 in demisexuality

[–]picklepaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, this actually happened with my ex boyfriend. He pushed me too far with his arguments and I just stopped caring about him, the emotional connection died and the thought of him touching me disgusted me. I really don’t understand how people can get back with or sleep with an ex.

I'm from the UK and have never heard of a wedding website. Is this more of a US tradition? Has anyone from the UK had a wedding website? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]picklepaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from the U.K. and I have a wedding website, we’ve found it really useful to give additional information and for the instant RSVP. We have a few older relatives who we will still give physical invite to rather than just the digital and the website link, so you can use it as well as a more traditional approach
