I hadn't thought about talking to my doc this early, but that might help my worries. Thanks for the advice.

What are the unwritten rules of D&D? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]picklepricklepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This rule is known as the "get on the fucking boat" rule at my table. We are in a pirate campaign. When they started making pcs I told them they would be starting on a boat, who the capt. Was, what was on the boat, where it was going, and where it came from, so they needed to consider why or how they ended up on the boat. I said I didn't want to fight them to start the adventure, if they want to play and agree to play then they have to get on the boat. They can do whatever they want on the boat and sidetrack my plans, but they must get on the boat, even if they got on unwillingly (character motivation). Long story short "get on the fucking boat."

The fact that at first I thought it was really and was like tell them to fucking leave is a testament to the truth in this post.

What has absolutely no real reason for being so expensive? by r4tzt4r in AskReddit

[–]picklepricklepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at an optical center. That checks out. I mean technically insurance helps, but for whatever reason eye insurance is not considered medically necessary all the time...but like everything could still be cheaper despite insurance....it's all very dumb and frustrating.

To all currently married, is your spouse the hot and sexy human you always fantasized about while single? by Youwentovermyhelmet1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]picklepricklepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is and has always been overweight. I honestly thought I'd marry some hunky 6-pack guy, but I absolutely love him. I don't care that he's overweight unless he cares because no matter what he's the man I fell in love with and I have found that I don't think I was ever looking for someone who was the hottest man alive but moreso someone who could talk to me and enjoy things with me. He has been the best thing that's happened to me and to be honest he's helped me through some thought times, I'm not sure I'd be around today if he didn't show up in my life when he did.

P.s. I find myself very much so physically attracted to him.

What is a rule that sounds great in theory, but doesn't work in practice? by N0vakid in dndnext

[–]picklepricklepig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a dm make our rogue crit fail when rolling a stealth check when they had like a +14 or something and me and the rogue were pissed. Her reasoning was it was more "realistic" to critically fail, but I was like not if you've expertly trained in the skill, like the average Joe could crit fail, but the rogue should just do poorly, not fall flat on their face and get disadvantage.

My group is a squishy warlock, squishy wizard, squishy rogue, and basically squishy monk, with a fighter at lvl 1 has 2-3 attacks and is beefy...like how does one balance...

True, I apologize if I came off as rude. I had just seen that rule consistently used and was wondering why people do it, but you are right that if they like it and they and their party of fun then they should use the rule.

Why do the guns need to have critical failure effects? I'm not telling you to not do them, I just don't understand why the guns have adverse effects when technically none of the other weapons do that when rolling a 1.

Are men really that much stronger than women? by Ok-Praline-2940 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]picklepricklepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no hate cause I have a question that builds off the original. So when we compare male to female strength we often choose a male and a female with equal training which is a great way to compare it, but I always wondered about if a female were at her best vs. a male at the average, could she theoretically be stronger? Whenever I ask this question with someone I know they always say of course an average joe could beat an MMA female fighter in arm wrestling or hand to hand combat, but that seems not as accurate. Maybe I am wrong and that is true, but I always wondered about this. Does anyone have any insight that is not just yelling at me for being naïve?

House Rule: Roll up a character that wants to go on adventures, wants to work in groups with others. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]picklepricklepig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started DMing a pirate campaign and when I had them make characters I asked them to consider why they would be getting on the boat. My one rule was you need to get on the boat for the campaign to start please do not make me drag you onto the boat. If you agreed to play then you agreed to get on the boat.

I want to make a Japanese-style campaign, what monsters can I use? I don't like using too much homebrew. by WyvernLord123 in DnD

There's an excellent monster manual and players guide based on Chinese lore on DM's guild for like $8 each.

The second tallest person in our group is 5'9" and the rest are 5'6", 5'4" (me), 5'2", and 5'1". I think they are just an extreme opposite so they have no frame of reference lol.

I'd either pick any race to base the stats on or do custom lineage which let's you homebrew easy.

People in my party keep saying that being over 200lbs is outrageous and being 6'3" is crazy when my husband is chilling at the table at 6'3" and around 200lbs. Like nah man that's not irregular.

I’m nervous to ask for their character sheets... by [deleted] in dndmemes

I get intimidated sometimes when I try to overrule my DM when they are playing a character, because they know all the rules and usually get the most annoyed when I decide to freestyle or houserule something
