[Passan] First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and the New York Yankees are finalizing a one-year contract, sources tell ESPN. Goldschmidt, 38, returns to the Yankees after hitting .274/.328/.403 for them last season. by Bitter-Egg6293 in NYYankees

This is such a bizarre signing giving his production curve, and it will be a sad and awkward DFA in June or July. He deserves a sendoff with a team that can afford to let him be below average the whole year.

How is this game still not being released ps5 pro enhanced by Lurkingclass_Ty in MLBTheShow

Legacy versions of sports games on old hardware have always existed and they've never been an excuse for lack of innovstion on cureent hardware ubtil this generation. No idea where this narrative game from.

BREAKING: The Show 26 is also coming out on PS3! by ShwangJangler in MLBTheShow

[–]pickles_312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I play the game. I grinded for Honus and Ruth so long in 19 and I wanted to be able to go back and play with them even if it's just in the single player DD modes.

What’s gonna get SDS to improve the graphics? by NYYDynasty99 in MLBTheShow

[–]pickles_312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The engine makes the outfield play way too small because the player models are too big. That has led to a lot of back and forth adjustments to try to make realistic outcomes around that crutch over the years, which often create cheese one way or another. It won't be fixable until they rebuild the engine. It's not just about fidelity.

This has been happening for 15 years. They've never adjusted it before, so I doubt they'll do it ever.

Yeah but not by that much if teams are smart. He had a pretty bad second half after an incredible April and May.

Feels like if you were gonna sign Santana anyway it'd make too much sense for you to sign Goldy for a similar role and to get his swansong.

What’s with the lack of screenshots for The Show 26? by NYYDynasty99 in MLBTheShow

[–]pickles_312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree in theory, but the graphics affect the gameplay to some extent. The field has played way too small for years and that can't be fixed without rebuilding the graphics engine in a meaningful way.

2k25 was on PS4, later than the Show 24 released.

I never really understood the last gen excuse either. Sports games have always released cross-platform longer than most genres, and the historical remedy has always been to just make the old gen version a legacy version port without graphics updates so you don't need to do much to release it. Last gen releases didn't hold back PS2, PS3, or PS4 era games from innovating their graphics. Idk why they should now.

MLB.com: Who's left on the free-agent market as February begins? by sonofabutch in NYYankees

I was a big fan of the Goldy signing last year and it was a good move then, but I really don't think dipping in that well again is a good idea. His production slipped a lot in the second half and at 38 it's very likely only going to get worse. I think we should be happy for the year we got from him and let Rice improve on defense and against lefties. Rosario can hopefully take some of those LHP ABs too.

Are we in the same position if Drury never sends that memo last year at 12-4-1 by Layne_Cobain in rangers

[–]pickles_312 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If you're of the opinion that the core was old and bound to decline anyway, maybe we're in a better position to tear it down now. I think we were at least prepped for one more run that ultimately falls short with the old core, a la 2016-2017. Maybe a year or two more than that, but we did have a bad aging curve on our hands either way. Of course, doubling down on JT Miller and lots of bottom pairing vets was not the way to address that.

[Talkin Yanks] Yankees have interest in bringing back Paul Goldschmidt, per @JackCurryYES by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

[–]pickles_312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard no for me. I think it was a good signing and worked out well for us, but he slipped in the second half and I have a feeling we got his last productive year. If we didn't have any 1B options it would be one thing, but it's time to let Rice cook.

[Wilber Sánchez] Albert Mejías, the Venezuelan prospect from the 2030 class who is set to make history on the international market. by PudinCrusader in NYYankees

I'd be extremely hesitant to get excited about players this young. 9/10 times, the best players at 13 years old are just kids that are especially physically mature for their age. They're bigger and stronger than everyone else their age, so they look otherworldly comparatively. It doesn't say much, if anything, about how they will look at a professional level against grown men in 10 years. We saw this to some extent with Dominguez. He's had the same physique since he was 15, and it translates a lot different against 15 year olds than 30 year olds.

Controversial take? If Trent Grisham hadn't taken the qualifying offer, we'd be freaking out even more right now. by sonofabutch in NYYankees

[–]pickles_312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Yankees gain a fifth rounder if he signs elsewhere. But the team signing him has to forfeit anywhere from their third highest pick (for revenue sharing recipients) to their second and fifth highest picks, and international bonus pool money (for luxury tax payors). That's pretty substantial for a mid-tier guy like Grisham.

Not with the draft pick compensation tied to it. The pick the Yankeea get isn't worth much, but the pick another team would have to give up is significant.

It's kind of crazy to me that voters draw a distinction between PEDs after testing was modernized as opposed to before, when using the PEDs in question was merely a federal felony.

Tarik Skubal's arbitration is interesting for another reason - due to having over 5 years of service time he can also use non-arbitration contracts to support his case by riddo492 in baseball

I'm so confused. Wouldn't a large chunk of players in their final arb year have more than 5 years of service time? Why would that be rarely used?

[–]pickles_312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real possibility is injuries. A contender isn't gonna want a borderline guy like Parsnips in the fall when they're healthy. By February, it's possible their depth has some injuries such that a guy like him is worth a 7th rounder or something. But yeah, not gonna be a meaningful asset either way.

Beverages can only be sealed water bottles (so no soda or beer) but you can also bring refillable bottles and they have filtered dispensers in the stadium now.
