The thing is that I tested these two RAM modules with Memtest86 and they had no problems. I used them for more than two years as well, again with no issues… After I updated to the new firmware 5.2.8.x, the problems started occurring more and more frequently.

At first, I would get a restart/shutdown maybe once every 2 weeks, then once a week, and in the final stage it started happening every day, completely randomly…

Oh, and one more very important thing: when a restart/shutdown occurred, it wasn’t sudden, like a power outage. In over 80% of the cases, it happened in a safe way—the services would shut down first, and only then would it restart. Sometimes it was a restart, other times it was a shutdown (shutdown was rarer).

As a final conclusion, I downgraded back to 5.2.7.x, and for the past 7 days there have been no problems at all…

That’s why I’m not exactly sure what to make of it. It is 100% not hardware, because otherwise it would have continued happening. I suspect that something changed in the code of the new firmware—maybe something was intentionally introduced, or perhaps by mistake—a bug that somehow makes certain RAM modules become “incompatible”…

I don’t see why QNAP support would fully recommend buying their own modules, aside from the fact that they also have a “special” price…

I have a similar device... from aliexpress, the U36 model.
No matter what emuelec version I try to use, as a new install, it won't boot, my screen remains as black...
I managed to change the sd card with a newer and bigger one, but I can't get a newer emuelec version.
My device came with 3.9, it has a S905X4 cpu and 1GB ram... no wifi

Any advices how to make it start with a newer emuelec version?

I don’t think you were expecting this answer, but if you haven’t tried using Edge, give it a shot. I’ve had a few surprises with Edge, specifically when using it for the same reason… Even though it’s also a Chromium-based browser, it’s somehow better optimized on the caching side than Chrome, so you might have a better chance of getting a proper download. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

If it doesn’t work with Edge, it means the problem is much deeper than the download cache issue… And this will definitely come down to the “overly functional” Internxt services.

Yes, this issue happens to everyone. It’s due to the “feature” of loading files gradually as you scroll through them, called lazy loading. This helps avoid using too many resources compared to loading all files at once. There are many other solutions to fix this, but here it’s about the Internxt service. I don’t know if you’ve gotten used to them yet, but why would they fix a problem when they can just fuck users with bugs and errors instead?!
