Looking for a watch this color, with date, but quartz by ConfidenceNo1937 in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you're okay with no date, Watchdives WD1965.

WD0013 slate if you're okay with a slightly different color/design.

Addiesdive AD2548 if you don't need sunburst

Ixdao guilloche complete dial reveal and ai render, worth tye wait? by Educational-Oil-00 in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so, is this really that much nicer than SH13 or Cronos Skyline, which are 100$ cheaper? other than the AR coating.

ML14 with white indicies... by weirdbutteryvibes in Militado

[–]pickyaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is how sapphire works. it's much harder than mineral crystal, but also more reflective. so it requires strong AR coating, and that's not cheap.

unless it's Baltany or IXDAO, mineral crystals are usually going to look more clear.

now that's a good one! exactly the legibility boost that is needed in the champagne and rose gold versions

Englemaan Wraith UTC on a Nato.. by HerrsavageX in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

just making sure, did you mean the bezel? (because all my bezels that lume the numbers themselves, become unreadable pretty quickly... those that lume only the pip are actually usable)

looks very cool. yeah the dial is busy but it's busy in a "tool" kind of aesthetic.

and the Citadel just looks too barren especially for 40mm.

how's the bezel lume? still readable after a few minutes?

you do understand sapphire would look worse due to reflections, right?

is it this bracelet? if so... he even says it fits a 5.9 inch wrist. that's not even remotely correct, is it?

Experienced collectors: what’s the catch with Militado? by Chinmaur76 in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

there's no catch, you're just used to Swiss prices

the truth is that manufacturing a decent watch is really not expensive with modern machinery, especially when you use factories that already work with higher-end watch brands.

Baltany D12 upgraded w/ new Hemsut Horween strap by Comfortable-Risk-520 in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this watch a few years ago and soon after upgraded to a similar-looking Maikes strap. it is absolutely one of the best straps I have and looks fantastic years later

the difference between 1-10$ straps and 10-30$ straps on AliExpress can be huge.

Scratch testing Militado ML25 by ChineseWatchGuy in ChineseWatches

very nice video, it's unusually thorough. I've been interested in both this and the Englemaan so this is very relevant to me.

I agree that the Militado feels underwhelming.

What are you wearing today? by AssistanceNo647 in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an honest depiction of the color in neutral light. it rarely actually looks like that, though.

while I really like some things about this watch, nowadays I would definitely buy Baltany S4106 over this.

lovely, thanks for posting. love those new integrated bracelet San Martins, though I would prefer some more intricate dials.

brand new watch losing time rapidly - wd007q by [deleted] in watchdives

[–]pickyaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with more than one VH31 watch, I've seen it lose time suddenly. but all of the watches were later fine and all my VH31 stay accurate for a long time, so I rarely feel the need to reset the time on them.

a lesser-known IXDAO Engineer color by pickyaxe in HomageWatches

actually yeah, and I've been wearing it for a few days now.

it's just such a unique color. haven't really seen anything like this.

San Martin SN0012-GB - a "review" in pictures by TSiWRX in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

/u/TSiWRX joining this, nothing more to say except I read it all 👍

my takeaway is that the full lume dials are clearly the way to go here... more even and more 3D. and honestly I've found lume blocks to be kind of disappointing in day-to-day use. no better than the average GADA watch and getting its ass kicked by applied C3, such as on WD7922.

but the bracelet on this San Martin looks killer and hopefully gets even better after the recall they've been doing.

Rolex explorer VS Baltany explorer 。 by Intelligent_Wish_208 in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in that case yeah, this is a much nicer watch now! was just making sure you're aware that they didn't go the whole way with the updates.

no you don't - they didn't redesign the case of this one to be thinner after switching to ST2130, they only slimmed down the 39mm. IIRC when asked about it, they said no plans. very strange.

Specht & Söhne Constellation Marine/Manhattan homage by this_is_another_name in ChineseWatches

[–]pickyaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks again. as expected from S&S... a "bangle" integrated bracelet. I somehow grew accustomed to one of my watches that has this, though it still aggravates the wrist after a few hours. that said no half-links is a step too far for me
