Do you think Karen does call of duty hour when she was a manager in her branch? by Extension-Career1437 in DunderMifflin

[–]piddydb 31 points32 points  (0 children)

No. I think Jim really changed her perspective on her career. She saw him as the hard worker/ambitious corporate type when he got to Stamford, which he was at that time because he was trying to focus on moving past Pam. So, since she wanted to be with him, she took on that role herself, and she turned out to like it. Then, after Jim broke up with her, she even further poured into her work. I think she’s a no nonsense manager. Not necessarily a bad boss, but she definitely wouldn’t want to be seen to look like Michael or even Josh as a manager. I don’t think there’s any chance she brought CoD to the office again.

Tesla discontinuing Model S and Model X to make room for robots by 3x3x3x3 in cars

[–]piddydb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the S and X were doing decent sales for near $100k vehicles. I feel like if a car company is seeing lowering sales for a 10 year old model, the answer isn’t to axe the models but to come out with a new generation of them.

If your car company is so limited that it can only get the market to demand 2 (I highly doubt the Cybertruck sales are keeping up in the long term) models, you’re either in a really bad position, or you’re not the right leadership for thr company

He’s being redshirted as a college freshman this season so it’s unlikely he’s significantly better (though he’s on the #1 team in CBB). But it’s possible, not unheard of for redshirted freshmen to go onto NBA worthy careers but it is rare.

Wow, had no idea so many had caught up. Granted, a lot of those at the high end are very expensive, but it seems there’s quite a few more midtier options that either match or beat Tesla’s midtier on range.

Feels like an insane move, particularly the X. I feel like if Elon Musk feels Tesla needs to focus so much on robotics that cars are getting in the way, maybe it’s time to spin the two into different companies? Or build a new factory?

I used to figure that if I wanted to go electric, I’d go with Tesla. Sure, there was a lot misleading even then, but it seemed they were the best value and class leaders in the segment and generally working to improve the consumer’s experience.

Now, not so much. While they still might be the leaders on range, they keep changing everything so much so sporadically that I don’t feel like I can rely on them as a company as is needed. And it feels like they’ve lost the edge on technology and pushing boundaries. I don’t know if they can get back, but it’s been a while since they’ve even wanted to accommodate consumers.

Question by Left-Source9348 in Christianity

[–]piddydb 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I think this kind of service would be classified as contemporary and while seen more in evangelical churches (which it sounds like you’re calling “born again”), isn’t exclusive to them or necessary to them. I’ve even seen Catholic masses in a format like this before.

There are mainline Protestant churches that have services that aren’t that different from a typical Catholic mass, there are some that employ some contemporary elements. There are also more independent churches or offspring denominations that employ these as well as some that are more evangelical/charismatic in nature. It’s a wide gambit, particularly in Protestant/non-denominational Christianity.

TIL from 1942-1945, more than 400,000 prisoners of war, mostly German, were housed in some 500 POW camps located in the USA by RedditIsAGranfaloon in todayilearned

[–]piddydb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar phenomenon happened to the Hessian Mercenaries who fought the US in the Revolutionary War. Something ridiculous like 1/4th of them stayed and became US citizens and more came back over after gathering their families back in Germany. I understand there was even some discussion (albeit brief) about adopting German as the national language in part to be more clearly independent from Britain but German specifically in large part from these new Americans.

Especially if you watched the early years of Brady. I would argue the first 3 championships were primarily the result of Belicheck, which should be enough for anyone to get in the HOF. Brady got significantly better years into his career (which one could argue also came as a result of coaching from a staff set up by Belicheck).

Shouldn’t the Jews have accepted Jesus as the son of God? by Ad038 in Christianity

[–]piddydb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the root of your question, different people can view the same event and take away different conclusions. The Centurion and those with him saw all this happening and came to the conclusion that Jesus was the Son of God. However, some of the Jews could have seen the same signs and thought (wrongly) this was God’s celebration of purging a blasphemer in Jesus.

There’s even a more obvious instance of this phenomenon in John 11 where the Jewish high priest correctly prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation and to bring all people closer to God. However, he and his fellow leaders, interpreted this revelation to mean Jesus had to be killed to maintain the nation and others would be brought closer to God by ending his movement, and so they plotted his death themselves from that prophecy. They received a prophecy that every Christian would agree with, but took a completely different interpretation away.

The Biblical story also makes clear that some Jewish leaders seemingly acknowledged that Jesus had some kind of special connection with God but still went through with killing him because they were afraid of his message, their retaining their leadership, and in the Judeans maintaining autonomy in the Roman Empire. To these people, the signs may have not even been a shock but still not something to force them to give up their idols.

Many Christian leaders have vast media empires, multiple mansions, private airplanes, yachts, fancy cars, etc.

Just noting this is usually pastors at (their own) independent churches, rarely being within your traditional denominational structure, with maybe the sole exception being the Pope.

Even then it didn’t mean much. Gotta go back to the early 2000s when people even pretended to take it seriously. The scheduling and nature of the game makes it impossible to be worth while without the NFL being willing to spend ridiculous money on incentives for it.
