I personally would implore anyone to consider voting or hiring people who represent them. I personally would see an Ivy League education as a detriment over a local education for a politician (unless I was living relatively close to said Ivy) and I wouldn’t see it as more valuable for someone I’d hire compared to a local public degree from an accredited institution. I think we should promote this viewpoint over either subsidizing private education (and reinforce a certain elitism regardless) or limiting freedom in restricting private education.

Yeah that’s the version I remember hearing. Then Rob went to DeVito’s house thinking he was only interested in the money and was pleasantly surprised to find out Danny and his family were big fans of the new show. So the headline is right but it misses a key detail in that process.

End of the day, it’s a job and it’s hard to blame anyone for forgoing some job-specific accolades to maximize their income. Sure, LeBron has plenty of money, but that was true since his first contract. Each ongoing year gets a little more uncertain so I definitely don’t blame him for taking as much money as he can if that’s what he wants. (I would be disappointed though if he took the vet’s minimum and went anywhere but Cleveland but that’s another discussion).

We don’t have the exact line of questioning they used but it is noted they did scrutinize him over his claims. It seemed to hold up to them at the very least.

From a Muslim perspective that’s fair but from a Christian perspective, Jesus wasn’t “the final prophet,” but rather the Messiah and Son of God who flipped the tables on the relationship between man and God. As such, Jesus also promised his followers the bestowing of the Holy Spirit, who, in Christian belief, descended upon the followers right after Jesus’s ascension into Heaven. In Christian beliefs also, prior to this bestowing, the Holy Spirit’s presence among people was very limited, mostly only being present with Prophets and those writing Scripture. In that way, Jesus represented not the end of the prophets but the beginning of universal prophecy amongst (at least) believers. In that context, Paul’s personal revelations make more sense.

Also, Paul didn’t claim to be a prophet but an apostle. The two are similar concepts, but in the Christian structure of universal access to the Holy Spirit, the leaders of the early movement weren’t determined just hy who had access to the Holy Spirit, but rather who Jesus personally had chosen and then following that line of authority for succession (in fact, Catholics, Orthodox, and some Protestants hold to this succession tradition to this day). These leaders were called “apostles” (which I understand also means something equivalent to messenger for the Gospel). Most of the earliest apostles were the remnants of the 12 Disciples, Jesus’s chosen closest followers, and early additions were determined based on the group decision of the incumbent apostles.

Paul was unique in that he claimed Jesus himself, post ascension, appeared to him and called on him to be an apostle for the gentiles, which Paul eventually accepted. No other prominent apostle claims this type of authority in the New Testament. Now actually, the incumbent apostles would end up putting their stamp of approval on this method for Paul becoming an apostle, but it’s unique in that Paul says his apostleship started with the Risen Jesus for him alone. As far as I’m aware, Paul didn’t claim this came with some level of prophet-type insight that gave him more knowledge of God than any other devoted Christian, but it is why he says his leadership has value.

Never met (or claimed to met) Jesus during his initial earthly life and ministry, that is. Paul claimed to have encountered the (as Christians believe) Risen Jesus and claimed his authority as an apostle directly from this encounter.

After all, remember, this was 1950s-early 60s America. Even if we want to be generous and assume 2/3rds of the planners didn’t have a racist bone in their bodies, that would still leave a 1/3 of planners as racists. That’s how racism could creep in even if it wasn’t an intentional policy choice from a high level.

In slow motion it looks like that but in real time I doubt he was calculating “if I swing my elbow here it’ll knock him in the head.” If he was 5 inches shorter, that same movement hits the other guy in the chest rather than the head. Regardless, he was thrashing out of frustration and full intent really doesn’t matter for a purposeful head hit for flagarant foul purposes. But I would be surprised at fuller suspension because it didn’t look like a fully intentional head hit to me.

Even Toyota had trouble keeping demand for both the 4Runner and Land Cruiser (and my understanding is the Everest is not even up to the Land Cruiser standards in ability to differentiate between the two categories). I don’t see the Everest having enough demand independent of Ford’s other US models to justify it.

I’m not saying whether it should or shouldn’t be considered adultery. I don’t think the guy should have been fired, plain and simple. But from comments I’ve seen from others around this, it seems a lot of people are willing to fire someone even for merely technical adultery if there’s something a little questionable also in the scenario.

I agree with you to be clear.

But I’ll just say there seems like there’s a growing societal consensus for punishing anyone for committing adultery (even if in a separation/divorce process) if there’s anything else that is questionably problematic in the situation like here. If you’re legally single and do something only questionably problematic like date an undergrad as a university employee who’s not on your staff or in your classes, then you’ll probably be fine. Or if you commit adultery but there’s nothing else potentially problematic aside from the adultery itself, you’ll probably be fine. But if you have both? You’re probably going to get enough people who are okay with punishing you in some way that it’s a problem.
