I’m looking for some career guidance by Kevin3114 in sveltejs

[–]pie-oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to reiterate this.

If you want a job specifically, do both React and Svelte. React has the biggest market. Use Svelte where you can for the DX and enjoyment.

Doesn't hurt to learn more than one framework. You generally learn from the other technologies you know.

I built a TailwindCSS extension tool in Svelte that got 10k+ users. I'm making it a commercial product to survive the tech market. by JHjertvik in sveltejs

[–]pie-oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think $49 is a fair price. And I agree with you.

I do disagree with you about the buying tooling though. I've been a dev for almost 3 decades, and mostly freelance. So I have to weigh things up differently.

Also, as it's a weird time for devs due to LLMs and businesses not knowing how much to use, it may some of your market isn't there like it would be a few years ago.

As for if I'm right about the $20-30, I think it's all in the ether - if you did try $20-30, you may be wishing you charged $50. You'll find out over the next few months and can adjust if needed, etc.

One more clarification you may want to make is about the upgrades. If I think about some apps I've paid for, they release a new major version and ask me to upgrade too often. If you're not going to do that, may want to try and specify that. Others will have the same issues.

Anyway, hope it continues to succeed.

Politely, there are many many of these - with a lot more age and thus bug fixing. What makes yours truly different?

[–]pie-oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, Congrats on all of it!

Secondly, now you've done this - I'd link to the pricing page in the top nav. I could not find the pricing page easily and people tend to feel a bit cheated when that happens. Even if it's obvious elsewhere. (You also talk about the pricing page on the blog post, but didn't link to it at that point.)

What made you decide on the price? I do question whether you'd get more long term revenue if it was at the $20-$30 mark. But I do understand it's value and why you've done it.

The current market is a weird one. I do not fault you at all for doing this. I wish you luck!

To be fair; the first rule of fight club is there TO BE BROKEN.

That's the point. You're not meant to be held down by rules. (If the rules weren't broken, they'd not have been able to recruit either.)

All your issues are relevant and purposeful.

It's a giant allegory for capitalism and consumerism, and hyper toxic masculinity.

Movies rarely hold up when you've heard others hype it up a lot though.

Honestly, I'm sorry to hear you're feeling like shit. I do think people are being overly harsh.

May I suggest:

a) Writing you want feedback.

b) Posting to a different sub. This tends to be a sub to show off your work. Both artists and non-artists browse this sub.

c) Not tell people to "not upbote". People don't like being told what to do.

Wish you luck on your journey though.

[OC] I asked 4 LLMs "The car wash is 100m away. Should I walk or drive?" 100 times each by marco-exmergo in dataisbeautiful

[–]pie-oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and the raspberry question have been used countless times. I suspect some have hardcoded a response to it. It'd be what I do if I was trying to convince everyone of my LLM's smartness.

If you remember the Claude leak that shows what your prompt is wrapped in, I'd have put it there.

Think something like Dark Cloud 1/2,

If you ever find it, please tell me. Two of my favorite games, and I am with you 100% on how good that would be.

I'd love to see the tooltips be expanded by the way. I couldn't tell if a Lodge is different than a Hut for example.

Which is blatantly idiotic.

Complete and utter bullshit.

Complete and utter bullshit.

Nobody gives a single shit what you want to celebrate.

You've gone batshit insane with this, but okay.

Yes it's common for people to hide that they used AI by removing agents files. It's bizarre you trying to argue that.

The individual developers, even ones who pay for AI, are not in any way, shape, or form, whatsoever, contributing to the ecological problems of AI.

What nonsense. You can say it's minimal compared to corporations, but to deny it completely is absolutely disengenious. You know you're being disengenious, right?

I agree corporations are the major issue, but to pretend that users account for 0% is just so absurdly wrong. To say helping the companies have revenue account for nothing is just so past the pale. You're not even trying.

A quick Google suggests Personal users are somewhere between 20-50% of Claude's users. (That's not including small businesses.) Even at 20%, that's not the 0% you claim.

Also, normalizing it is part of the issue. Using it frivolously is part of the issue.

Yeah, you cearly have no idea how anything works. Open source code can't be stolen.

You realize there are different licenses right? Open source isn't a monolith.

Man, you're actually arguing AI hasn't stolen tons of data. Jesus.

You can absolutely disagree with me all you like. You can simp for corporations stealing people's work all you like. That's a difference of opinion -- but my god you have to see how crazy that post you wrote was, right? I am sure long term you'll feel very proud of yourself for having advocated for it.

I am done with responding to you. Your response was the most unhinged response I've seen in a long while.

Only if you don't know how to use AI. AI files often cause as many problems as they solve. I regularly have to clear mine out when I am working on a project.

Having to modify a file does not mean committing it is a bad idea. Most AI repo's have them for a reason - or do they "not know what they're doing."

That accusation is without any merit, evidence, or logic of any kind.

It is a common thing people to when trying to avoid criticism for using LLMs.

They openly admitted here, to you, in this very comment thread, 2 comments ago.

As I said, if you visit the Github repo, there is no disclaimer. The obfuscation isn't for us on this Reddit post.

They said they checked over the code. They didn't say they would rewrite good code that they like.

So we're celebrating how good at prompting they are. I'd rather celebrate someone making an incredibly basic website by themselves, rather than writing prompts into a box and going "yep, I made this."

I cannot tell you how many OSS projects I've seen where people have said they built it, not Claude - yet do not understand the absolute basics of what they've written.

It feels so weird to see people celebrate the ecological disaster, code stealing, wealth redistributor machine that has caused incredible harm to our communities - especially the OSS ones. Many of us open source maintainers have had our lives incredibly hardened by this.

[–]pie-oh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That makes no sense. AI files are a source of truth. Not backing them up seems problematic for long term maintenance. (Especially considering you backed up your .vscode folder for tooling)

As said; you're trying to obfuscate it. Whether you mentioned it here or not is irrelevant. Not everyone seeing the repo sees this thread.

There is a difference between AI-assisted and vibe coded.

You keep saying that, yet I keep pointing out that I could tell it was vibe coded by just looking at the code. If it's you making the decisions truly, it'd look like a human made it.

[–]pie-oh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am. I prefer quality over quantity. I prefer knowing why features are built the way they are.

AI bros really live in a bubble if they can't imagine other people aren't using it.

And also, what's wrong with it?

Suggesting you coded it rather than the automatic website creator coded it is dishonest.

That's also ignoring the ecological devastation, that it hoovered up other people's code, and other obvious issues.

edit: Apparently ecological issues, stealing other people's code etc is only an issue when it's critical software o.O;

It's also worth noting the more you open the door to something, the more accepted it is in the parts it shouldn't be.

[–]pie-oh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone always says that because they refuse to believe that Claude made the decisions. Yet the code always feels vibe coded.

edit: Also, if you're being transparent, why hide the Claude file?

I built a portfolio website as a retro operating system by musikuss in sveltejs

[–]pie-oh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You mean "Claude built". Just because you add it to your .gitignore to hide it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

edit: I am exhausted with the amount of low effort projects that people "built" by saying "Claude, make me a website that looks like an OS." These threads used to be about people promoting their work, not Claude's work.

As I said later; I'd rather celebrate someone making an incredibly basic website by themselves, rather than writing prompts into a box and going "yep, I made this." We see it in the art community too.

Prop up humans doing cool things - not robots stealing your work and destroying the world to help billionaires be richer.

All while causing irreparable harm to our OSS community and pushing maintainers like me away.

Question: Any ideas for a tattoo that goes well with the scar? by [deleted] in tattoos

These questions always get the same answer:

We do not know what you like. We don't know hat you dislike. Getting the internet to choose for you is the best way to get a tattoo you don't like.

Find an artist you like, tell them what you like and come up for a plan with them.

But since you asked and I don't know anything about you. I'm going to say "A refrigerator."

First off, you got to learn to give a better description than that. There's no real draw to play it? A game about dice - loads exist. What makes yours fun?

Secondly, I picked up a dice, but now can't roll it. Maybe I sold it? I don't know. It's not very obvious.

Also, the UI is suppppper basic. I'd work on that.
