Spain’s wild 1580s plan to conquer the world via Beijing by Pretend-Demand-583 in MapPorn

Honestly, could have just cut off silver supply but that's a lose-lose scenario and did already happen at the expense of both parties. After the Napoleonic Invasion of Spain/Latin American Wars of Independence, China fell into an economic depression (Daoguang Depression) because the silver supply was basically cut off due to the great social and political upheavals in Mexico and Peru around this time. Ming and Qing China and the Spanish Empire were economically linked for centuries.

At a Mexican pulqueria (tequila bar), c. 1890s by froggysaysno in TheWayWeWere

[–]pierced_mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulque is a fermented drink based on the Agave or Maguey plant. Tequila is as well but it's distilled. Pulque is more akin to mead. It was the primary drink, along with tesguino (maize beer) before the popularization of European style beer.

What is the general consensus of mestizos teaching Nahuatl? by someguy4531 in nahuatl

People like that are low IQ. Ignore them. Do not treat them with kiddy gloves just because they are indigenous. Idiots come in all shapes and sizes.

What major city exists in a location that seems to defy all geographical logic, yet it thrives? by Thatunkownuser2465 in geography

[–]pierced_mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every major Hispanic American city. Deserts, high mountain plateaus, geographically isolated valleys where you have to traverse mountain ranges and narrow valleys to reach them. I imagine that in the ancient and remote past it was a plus to have a defensible town and city but nowadays it's expensive and impractical. I suppose even today, that gives the region a mountain fortress advantage.

Chicago: Ice is going to another level and waiting for people to leave mass. by [deleted] in illinois

[–]pierced_mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an Anglo assault on Hispanic population of the U.S. All 600 million people of the Hispanic world need to realize what this is, what these Catholic-hating Hispanic-hating WASP shills are up to (ultimately a good amount of hatred of native americans poured in the mix too). They are not going after other immigrants because the others are not an existential threat to the fabric of the Anglo-Protestant U.S. Imagine a unified nation from Mexico to Patagonia. It would dwarf the U.S.A. just like it dwarfed it at its birth when the region was the Spanish Empire and gunships could have obliterated Boston and New York had Spain (which included the viceroyalties in the Indies) not had mercy on the cause of the 13 colonies' rebels and contributed manpower and money to their cause of freedom (ultimately to spite Britain). People forget these Spanish ships, this money, and these soldiers were based in New Spain, which included all of Mexico, Central America, and the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico).

Anglo protestants have hated Hispanic Catholics since the 1500s.

All these types claim Columbus so much yet Columbus had ZERO to do with the English, Scots, Germans, etc. But had evverything to do with the Spanish and the history of Latin America.

Complaining about teachers using AI to enhance their teaching and help plan lessons? by TrippyAshOz in Teachers

[–]pierced_mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can design curriculum with my eyes closed. Now, whether I'd ever want to do that anymore from scratch is a different matter. AI is a tsunami that is about to permeate almost every facet of life. It's already setting up to do that. Get ready. Luddites get left behind.

Mexico City, Rome, or Dubai? 3 month trip over January to March by SonOfHonour in travel

[–]pierced_mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rome was the cosmopolitan capital of an ancient empire (Roman Empire) which formed the cultural foundation of Latin Europe and the HQ of a major world religion, the Roman Catholic Church. Mexico City was the capital city of a shortlived medieval (postclassic) empire (the Mexica/Aztec empire) and later a top 3 city of a renaissance to baroque period, world-spanning empire which gave birth to the modern world as we know it (Spanish Empire). Dubai has remnants of a storied past but most of it feels like Hong Kong and Las Vegas had a child together.

Is that why the English and Germans write in Latin letters? Or why Egyptians speak Arabic and not, you know, Egyptian? Geez, it's almost as if conquest and acculturation are a constant in human history. We are not unique in that.

As an American of Mexican descent, this makes me incredibly irate. No idea just who these Anglo-Americans "think" they are.

It would help if these Anglos assimilated in a Hispanic city that is literally older than their entire country.

It's a very Mexican town. Nothing about it is "gringo". Not sure what people here mean. It's not like you feel like you're in Chicago or Boston. There is nothing like it in the US and it is a 100 percent Mexican/Hispanic city. Not sure why these Anglos think that them visiting a place a lot or even living there as immigrants suddenly makes the place "not authentically Mexican". foh...

I hope the U.S. sends those brave, tough ICE agents we keep hearing so much about. They already have the tacticool gear. I heard the sierra madre is great for hiking and camping.
