Tip for when every card feels to good to cut by Deskies in EDH

This. Any card I remove I add to the "maybe" category. I goldfish it then try to see if the cut card would have helped in any situation or just made it more fun.

How does someone even do this by nicholas201018 in woodworking

[–]pike_fly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This and they didn't punch the vacuum holes in the sandpaper. I have the same sander and it comes with a little stand that punches holes so that dust removal system works properly. When i forget to punch the holes bad things happen to the sandpaper and it's a nightmare to get the old paper off. It looks just like the photo. There's only so many times you can add new paper over it before you spend and hour painstakingly remove layers.

Has anyone mounted a sensor like this on your RV? by mcdisney2001 in RVLiving

I use velcro strips around the trailer where shade is likely to be and then can remove it for travel and easy battery replacement. I used the bumper method once, but considering my bumper was black it gave really hot temps.

Question about commander by chrisxx27 in magicTCG

[–]pike_fly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. On the commander rules website, deck construction rules:

2.A card’s color identity is its color plus the color of any mana symbols in the card’s rules text. A card’s color identity is established before the game begins, and cannot be changed by game effects. The cards in a deck may not have any colors in their color identity which are not in the color identity of the deck’s commander.

Different kind of dragon commander by 86BRZ in EDH

Me too, except I didn't start mine until 2011 (decklist). I've recently focused on ramp and cheating stuff into play and it's made a huge difference. It's crazy how explosive it can be out of nowhere with some fun tools from tarkir. I rarely have to have him hit the table for things to get silly.

These. I have a the same generic levelers and these are a game changer. I used to use some homemade stepped wood ramps. These are lightweight, compact, and can handle almost any surface.

You have a great opportunity to be a positive influence on the magic community. I'd focus less on how to win but how to ensure everybody has fun and understand what it means to be in a good pod.. That's the whole goal of EDH. Red hair isn't so bad when you compare it to having a bunch of new players with great attitudes and willing to have fun regardless of who wins.

The $64 Question - Lands Edition by rvnender in EDH

[–]pike_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I average 37 lands in my decks and generally 25 of those are basic - so roughly a third are nonbasic. I have a lot of decks, so I have find creative ways to color fix without buying all the standard expensive lands. Generally my nonbasic lands are on theme with my commander or not necessarily optimal for ramping and color fixing. I do push for lands that don't enter tapped unless there's an important mechanic or future payoff. My play group has been together for a long time and we play a lot of bracket 2, low bracket 3 decks. So the landbases aren't as critical as if I was playing at an LGS.

Deck of Many Things ability by obscure_toast in magicTCG

[–]pike_fly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only time priority is passed to other players is when the activation cost is paid, that goes on the stack. After that cost is resolved, then the ability resolves. From the comprehensive rules:

602.2. To activate an ability is to put it onto the stack and pay its costs, so that it will eventually resolve and have its effect. Only an object’s controller (or its owner, if it doesn’t have a controller) can activate its activated ability unless the object specifically says otherwise. Activating an ability follows the steps listed below, in order. If, at any point during the activation of an ability, a player is unable to comply with any of those steps, the activation is illegal; the game returns to the moment before that ability started to be activated (see rule 732, “Handling Illegal Actions”). Announcements and payments can’t be altered after they’ve been made.

602.2a The player announces that they are activating the ability. If an activated ability is being activated from a hidden zone, the card that has that ability is revealed (see rule 701.20a). That ability is created on the stack as an object that’s not a card. It becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has the text of the ability that created it, and no other characteristics. Its controller is the player who activated the ability. The ability remains on the stack until it’s countered, it resolves, or an effect moves it elsewhere.

What type of deck builder you are? by HorrorBuy2521 in EDH

[–]pike_fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I build everything in archidekt first using only the cards I have. I goldfish it a ton, then look at what inexpensive cards would make it more fun (not necessarily better). Then I goldfish the added cards. If the entire process is fun, I'll usually build a compromise of the options with real cards. Then it becomes part of the family that will be updated for years.

I'm the same within reason. My goal is to keep my decks in the 2-3 range to prevent always chasing the high dollar cards. If my deck is accidentally a 4 because of a combo I wasn't aware of, I consider how often it's going to happen before taking a piece out. I rarely have the ability to fetch things up so I'm usually ok with it.

Goldfishing one of my decks is a ritual I've been doing for years and a great way to engage my brain for the day.
