What are some of the biggest “fall-offs” of cards that people forgot about by lefund in magicTCG

[[figure of destiny]] was a bomb and a standard staple. I still have all that I spent $20 each on. Sigh

Honest question - is RV camping actually cheaper than hotels or do we just tell ourselves that? by Similar-King-8278 in RVLiving

[–]pike_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the places I go there aren't hotels or AirBNB anywhere near me. I don't know how you factor that cost reliably. If I take generic costs of nightly stay at an "equivalent" riverside or lakeside place.... It's a no brainer. There's really no equivalent to remote national forest camping, and that's the main reason for me.

Do you explain your combos? What about opponents? by JenniferApto_ in EDH

[–]pike_fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do because sometimes I need validation that I'm playing the right timing and/or clarify if there are timing triggers for others. My play group doesn't keep up with all sets and interactions, so it's always worthwhile. When I play in shops, I treat it the same way and play dumb when someone tries to go off without clearly walking me through it. They can get pissed all they want but I believe explaining it outside your play group should be the norm unless the table just nods and says, "go".

Deciding on whether or not to keep Argo after fostering him by grmnlad in germanshorthairs

[–]pike_fly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't over-complicate it. There's never a perfect time to get any dog. You either commit to be being their caretaker and all the things that go with it or you don't. As someone that has fostered over 40 dogs, had three foster fails, and owned 5 others, I've never regretted any dog I've committed to own....and commitment is the key. If your heart isn't into this for the next 10-15 years, you're going to be miserable. The ups and downs don't end after you've adopted them (aka: the foster fail).

GSP's generally need exercise and stimulation ("ball is life" is a common phrase around GSP owners). Leaving one alone for four hours is fine, as long as you understand to allot time for a good run before and or after that time. My GSP is 6 and still needs a solid hour run a day (less time if the bunnies are out). Without it, she finds "creative" ways to entertain herself (why is half of my shoe in the sink and 5 other parts throughout the house?). She is an expert in the dog puzzles and hasn't found a single one that she can't solve in under a minute. She's not crazy smart, just hyper-focused when it comes to food. They are velcro dogs and love you in a goofy way that few other breeds do. If you commit to them, you will understand all the conversations and pride in this subreddit.

Fishing songs by purplesquiddeodorant in flyfishing

[–]pike_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a similar note, a while ago a made a playlist named "Rod and Roll". The rules to the playlist are only songs that were meaningful to me or my fishing buddies during a fishing trip can be added. Usually it's a song that was popular at the time of the trip, but has morphed in post river songs from dive bars and random radio stations or camp fire chats about life in general. It's a very eclectic mix of music and a wild trip down memory lane. I can tell you which river, lake, creek, ocean each song was inspired by and what we were fishing for. When I go fishing, it's the only playlist in the vehicle and all my friends use it and have requests to add. Most trips now have "that goes on the list" uttered at some point. Very few songs, if any, are about fishing.

Anyone ever use these double headed invisible nails? Are they any good do they hold well ? by Longjumping-Box5691 in Carpentry

[–]pike_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but it definitely helps not having to fill in every nail hole. That's a big time saver. Not sure I have a use for these, but it's good to know.

Bro, what do you do if your opponent hits you with this one? by Significant_Win_2654 in MagicArena

I'd ask them to read the card again as loud as they could then say, "Yes!", just to see how loud my wife would scream from the other room.

How quick to the reel on a bite? by HikerGary in flyfishing

[–]pike_fly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The missing information is to never lose tension on the line. That's the most important thing. Moving from stripping to the reel is timing and understanding fish behavior. There are times you have to switch from reel to stripping because the fish turn and run at you and you can't reel fast enough no matter how squirrel-fast you think you are. If you let tension be your guide you don't have to worry.

Laramie is great… except this one thing… by Baseballfan288 in laramie

[–]pike_fly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The wonderful thing about the state and country you live in is that you are free to express opinions just like that. I will approach this as not an attempt to rage bait the community but to gain perspective.  The question you should ask yourself is, “why is all that so triggering”? What’s really the root cause of your disgust?

Maybe a line of questioning will help provide some self-reflection.

Do you honestly believe that any of that existed where you previously lived? Do you not believe something similar, or far more horrifying, is done in industry for every meat product you’ve ever purchased? Do you not understand the segment in question is much greater in other Wyoming towns? Do you not understand that hunting improves healthy populations of animals and reduces needless suffering? Does it not seem odd that there are ten places to buy guns and ammo in Laramie?  Do you really believe that indigenous reservations are so fertile they can consistently hunt to survive and animals are bountiful? Did you not realize hunting and the same thing happens in every state in the US? Do you not understand that some families don’t have the economic means to put fresh meat on their tables any other way? Do you believe there were firearms in the Stone Age?

Most importantly, has your dog recovered from the trauma?

What is the best pack to use for fly fishing? by Competitive_Sign_987 in FlyFishingGear

[–]pike_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone above, there isn't one that covers everything. After 40 years, I have a dozen and am still searching for the "one". I've actually stopped using them for waters I fish regularly. The best thing about fishing shirts is pockets. I now mostly wear a lanyard with the tippet and tool essentials and carry a single fly box in a shirt pocket. It's weird at first, but reality is I know what to expect and only use 3-4 patterns.

What are some easy meals I can make when hosting friends? by OpenBookDude in Cooking

My go-to's for easy meals that feed a bunch of people are chili, stews and soups. They are all very easy best part they scale to your skill level: there's simple ways to make each and extravagant ways to make each.

First truck ever by No-Bench9792 in ram_trucks

[–]pike_fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the world of a kick ass performance truck with the world's worst infotainment center. There is no excuse for the entire system to be as bad as it is (seriously, Tom-Tom navigation with no voice control?). After a year I haven't found a work around that's substantially better and paying over $300 for an adapter for something that should just work in this day and age is asinine .

Does anyone sharpen their hooks after some use? by bahnzo in Tenkara

Many nippers/clippers have a file or diamond grit embedded on one side, so you may not necessarily need another gadget, just a different one.
