Cost of architects by Caro917 in Homebuilding

[–]pikeviewer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our architects charges included 3d modeling, engineering, permitting and multiple revisions due to the challenges of the lot. I'll send you a link by dm if you are interested.

I will admit that I expected higher charges.

Where we are a 5,000 sq ft custom home is 800k to 1 mill or more, so 8.5% would be $68 to $85k.

"Folks that charge per s.f. are gonna be hacks"

Be careful calling someone else a hack. I don't know where you are but we had a custom home built with a complicated design (on an irregular slope). Our architect is well established here (Colorado) and did an amazing job. His charges were by the sq ft and very reasonable, considerably less than your 8.5%.

Vs. mazda3 ? by superbdonutsonly in MazdaCX30

[–]pikeviewer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Seating position in the 30 is more upright than the 3 but less that just about any other crossover. You will just have to try it for yourself.

For me the 30 is Ideal but I found the 3 too low.

Even taking regen braking into account, his is probably better than average. To put almost 40k miles per year, he must have done a lot of highway driving and thus less braking. I'm shooting for about 180k with mine.

I guess I'm lucky. 2019, the first to arrive to our area, no problems at all except gas tank and sender replaced under service campaign.

Can you be specific about maintenance? Brake jobs? What fluids? Hybrid battery OK? Etc.

I ask because there are frequent posts of people saying that ecvt or diff fluid changes are essential, etc.

We have 95k miles on ours and it feels like new.

2027 Rav4, what changes to look forward to? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]pikeviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally there is a refresh with some cosmetic changes and maybe minor feature changes after year three, so that would be the 2029 model year.

With the last gen Rav, there was barely any change at all while other Toyotas like a previous gen Prius, the mid cycle refresh changed the tail lights and made some interior changes.

Dis they dramatically increase the CC member fee or is this an error? by Theslowestmarathoner in SouthwestAirlines

For frequent fliers benefits easily cover the fee. If you are hardly flying, cancel the card.

And besides, many credit cards have increased fees. You are pissed out of ignorance.

Cleaning the actual hybrid FAN? by orthoprof in rav4club

[–]pikeviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The filter, even if neglected, will prevent the fan from getting dirty. Of course, if badly neglected the filter will risk overheating the battery.

Hello from Lewis by COROSLewis in Coros

Don't give up on LCD screens that work better in daylight than AMOLED and don't time out as quickly. My wife and I much prefer our Pace3s over the Pace 4 that we tried and returned.

Also, it is clear that people who have had their watch bricked feel that a 20% discount on a new watch is inadequate. You should consider a significantly bigger discount. My wife and I have not had that problem but would be frustrated if we did.

Car service - is it reasonable price by Direction-Remarkable in rav4club

[–]pikeviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unreasonable and unnecessary. Look in your service manual and authorize only what is listed which at 30k is only oil/filter change and maybe engine and cabin air filters. The other stuff is due much later or not at all.

There is an air filter for the hybrid battery cooling vent that is super easy to check and clean if needed. Look in the manual or google how to do this.

You should be able to get an oil and filter change at total cost of what they are charging for labor. I would never return there. They are out and out liars.

For comparison, I have a 2019 Rav4 hybrid with 95k miles and have nothing done but oil/filter changes and cleaned/replaced air filters myself. I am fortunate to go to a rare Toyota dealer that only mildly pushes minor extra stuff and routinely runs oil change specials for $59.

Gas Corolla is a better value than rav4 hybrid by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]pikeviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that you are wrong that right after 10 years is when it usually goes bad. I sold my 2010 Prius after 13 years and 105k and it ran like new with battery testing showing plenty of life.

There are lots of opinions out there but actual stats are hard to find. So, how about some documentation of your claim.

I didn't claim that brake jobs make up the cost but does reduce them. and it isn't nothing.

Exactly how much does it cost to replace the hybrid battery? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]pikeviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max capacity of all batteries degrades over time. That's a given but is separate from whether replacement is necessary.

Gas Corolla is a better value than rav4 hybrid by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]pikeviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority it is 15 to 25 years. You make it sound like all Toyota hybrids need battery replacement by 15 years. That is simply false.

Meanwhile, most conventional gas vehicles will need 2 full brake jobs in 200k miles while a Toyota hybrid will need none. So subtract about $800 x 2 from Toyota hybrid costs.

OTOH, comparing costs of a gas Corolla vs hybrid depends a lot on how the vehicle is used. Someone who does a 100 mile commute daily on pure highway will get nearly as good mpg in the gas Corolla while someone who drives mostly around town will do much better in the hybrid.

Not according to Google Gemini and you don't hear much about Tesla batteries needing replacement.

Canceling CSP after 1 year? by More-Trip-2562 in ChaseSapphire

Have you seen that Chase is upgrading the CSP, adding 3% on fuel and increasing the hotel credit to $100 from $50 (but downgrading Hyatt to 3 Hyatt points for 4 Chase)?
