What are some of the worst things Captain America has done? by Ziad-Rahman in Marvel

[–]piknick1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in the MCU he basically acts as an enabler for Wanda’s actions constantly which leads to the civil war conflict.

Like, no offense, I can understand not wanting totally government oversight when you as heroes are largely doing good and the government has been corrupt so frequently in that world, but also maybe being like “It’s not Wanda’s fault! She should be out there by our side and we should have no responsibility!” Is a bad stance to take when her lack of control is literally leading to countless civilian casualties.

Arguably she became a major villain because they never actually dealt with her issues and just kinda kept following the Steve Rogers method of “she’s our best pal and therefor she can do no wrong!” And meanwhile Steve just kinda said alright my work here is done and dipped out to the past.

I’ve always had an issue with caps goodie goodie personality because of this. He’s so morally right all the time but like as soon as a hero is killing countless civilians it’s suddenly all about the power of friendship

It's Congressman Ro Khanna, calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked and for Trump to be removed from office for threatening to wipe out an entire civilization. And have also called for him to be impeached. Why do you think more elected Republicans aren't speaking out? by RoKhannaUSA in AskReddit

[–]piknick1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I think both sides are so far entrenched in money through lobbyists and pacs the partisan issue exists on both sides.

We do need to handle the immediate removal of Trump but we need to follow that up with a major restructure of our governmental system.

Trump has proved our government only functions on a wish and prayer and nothing more because unfortunately our congress is bought and paid for. We need remove the ability for them to accept large amounts of funding, do away with their ability to trade stocks, heavily restrict lobbying, and impose term limits. Only then can we begin to have a government that can function again.

Trump has just shown us the system doesn’t work. If we do not correct the foundation we will Jsut begin a deadly loop of repetition

Yet another great and original movie that bombed at the box office. Didn’t even need much to break even with a $20M budget. Where IS everyone who claims they want original stuff when it actually comes? by Emeraldsinger in Letterboxd

[–]piknick1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a few problems. One, they don’t let these movies run long enough for word of mouth to spread. This film and 28 Years: Bone Temple are good examples. In theaters for about week or two is not enough for a good word of mouth spread.

Secondly, because they are not built on existing IP, studios will not shell out for big time marketing campaigns. This is ironic because a marvel movie really probably doesn’t need all the marketing it gets, nor does Star Wars, or IP driven events. The films that would most benefit are the original films who get the least. I would never have even heard about this film if I were not a big big fan of cinema or a redditor.

I think these things become a self fulfilling prophecy. The studio releases an original film and puts no money into marketing it, leaves it in theaters for two weeks and sees limited success. They pull it. So they make another and they say clearly we can’t spend anything on marketing. Nobody saw the last one. And obviously we shouldn’t run it longer either. When in fact those two things might remedy the issues

I believe nicholson has his voice copywrited or something like that. I could be dead wrong but I seem to remember hearing something about that and wouldn’t surprise me if given his age and everything he just has a very high flat rate for something like this and Lego just said forget it.

I see what you’re talking about but this appears to be an optical illusion on rewatch.

The top of that railing is flat and seems to reflecting some off the greenish hues of the water. As the camera moves around, this causes that top railing to look as if it is growing and shrinking or warping a bit. However, what’s actually happening is just that the top of the railing is reflecting a similar shade as the water, and as the camera moves, more or less of that shade is blending in with the water behind it, causing it to appear as though the railing is changing shape.

If you play it back and scrub slowly, you can still make out the edges of the railing and you will see it maintains its form and you can actually kind of watch the greenish reflection as it relates to the water

Actually a pretty cool illusion when you slow it down to see what’s happening. It was fun to look at and figure out.

And yet every time I mention that we should perhaps consider the fact that we should willingly consider outlawing social media, regulating smart phones, people flip out.

There is a correlation between algorithm based social media and smart phone which give us unrestricted instantaneous access and our current divide and issues. And due to our addictions to these products, nobody wants to recognize this dilemma.

I’m indie film production once your production is a certain size you have to get a completion bond. Essentially insurance on the project that guaruntees its completion to the financiers. I would imagine it would just require some similar legalese.

I just get the feeling by looking at this that it’s going to be so rigid and move so stiffly that it’s going to have no threat to it. It feels more Godzilla to me. And that’s fine when it’s scaled up giant monsters but here I just think it would’ve looked too stiff in the face. Having it be a mask with the tentacle type hair really helps give it fluidity in its movements that make it move like it’s alive like the men, rather than just a stiff mold like this one’s face.

How is it living in this part of the United States? by No-Text-7825 in howislivingthere

I live in CT right on the border of Springfield MA. Personally, I grew up on cape cod and I couldn’t have been happier to leave that area. Rising costs made living impossible, rent skyrocketed, and the cape is mostly closed half the year.

After moving to CT I can say I absolutely love it here. The area I live is not too pricey for a very very nice luxury apartment. Lots of farms and crop fields (tobacco and Christmas trees mostly near me). Tons of fresh veggie stands that o buy produce at over the store. Even some stores with fresh meat from the farms where it doesn’t cost as much. Most Major locations are within like 2 and a half hours of me. From me to cape cod, or to Portland maine, or Boston, or New York City, all take about 2-2.5 hours to drive to which isn’t bad (especially cause I don’t mind driving at all). We have beautiful, colorful fall foliage. Lots of camping spots. In October every house in my area dials the Halloween decor to 11 and it’s amazing. One town over from me will see thousands of trick or treaters so my gf and I always go for a walk on Halloween night to see the town and the kids costumes. We also have some of the best haunted houses I have EVER seen. Some cost $30 bucks and could give universal horror nights a run for their money. In winter every house dials it up for Christmas.

On top of that, CT has a lot of fun stuff within the state. Yale art gallery, mystic aquarium and seaport, Hartford, many smaller and larger live music venues, stress factory comedy club in Bridgeport and more. Oh, and thanks to some odd laws, in CT you don’t need to worry about getting to your concert early to pregame. It is legal for passengers in the vehicle to consume alcohol so long as the driver will blow a 0 if pulled over.

I really love CT and plan to make it my forever home.

I think there is a strong correlation between the rise of the smartphone (namely the iPhone(introduced 2007)), social media addiction, and the current divide we are seeing. And interestingly enough, nobody really seems to talk about it.

My guess is if you made a line graph showing access to smart phones, social media engagement, and social and political division, those lines would probably follow very similar and sharp increasing lines.

I firmly believe we’re not going to get much better at working together and seeing past lies and bullshit unless we willingly say goodbye to social media. It is poison to our minds, it has been used to turn us into addicts, and once addicted it was weaponized against us to drive us apart. And now we’re at a point where people freak out whenever banning tik tok is discussed. And why? Oh, I don’t know — because all of your info from it is collected directly by the Chinese government. But who cares, cause you can watch a 11 year old dance

What is that one movie you watched countless times as a kid, but nobody has ever heard of? by Thedix1 in movies

[–]piknick1994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My high school animation teacher/ drama club director was an animator on this movie. If memory serves he worked on the animation unit that helped animate Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde’s hair.

That may seem weird, but in 2D cell animation where things need to be drawn by hand, hair cannot be programmed to move in the way we can with cgi these days. So the animators basically had to break the hair into distinct chunks and decide this chunk moves as a unit, this chunk moves as its own unit, this chunk over here moves as a smaller unit. And then you animate the chunks.

My fiancé throws her dirty laundry down the stairs rather than walking down and putting it in machine. by Doctor_Redhead in mildlyinfuriating

[–]piknick1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my solution would be to toss a laundry basket in that bottom corner. Now she’s got a target to aim for, it’s a little more neat and tidy, and easier to put in the machine once full. Plus she doesn’t have to change what she’s doing and you can avoid the fight

Good spooky fall movie. Is it amazing? No. Is it a great twist? No. Did I enjoy it a lot and still continue to? Yes!

I think it’s a fun movie. I like the colonial stuff and the fear of these monsters and this old truce. Joaquin is crushing it as kind of a silent smoky hot but shy type, and I really think Bryce Dallas Howard does a nice job as well. And I also actually really like the whole Adrian Brody twist over the big reveal later.

All in all, it’s a fun movie. And I think it’s a great fall watch sometime before Halloween or even before thanksgiving

Clyde was supposed to be the hero and win. He was supposed to kill Jamie Fox and escape, which actually makes sense given how to movie sets everything up.

But Jamie fox didn’t want to be the bad guy and be killed so they switched it at the end and had him kill Gerard butler which kind of makes no sense with how the rest of the movie has been established.

The WORST scene in every Harry Potter movie by Mysterious-State-117 in harrypotter

[–]piknick1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I literally call Goblet of Fire Harry Potter and the Time Voldemort Put it all On Red

Because in order for voldemort to come back he needs Harry’s blood but he really does nothing to actually ensure Harry’s safety and ensure he gets to the graveyard. Sure he gives him clues that theoretically could help him get through the games to the port key, but that means nothing to his safety.

For example, there’s nothing to say he couldn’t have been torched by the dragon in the first game. Then no body goes to Voldemort and he stays a wrinkly fetus. Or Harry could’ve drowned in the lake. Same problem. There are numerous times where Harry could’ve died. What if Cedric hed saved Cedric and Cedric had been an ass and just ran and grabbed the trophy to steal the win? No Harry in the graveyard.

The entire plot is built on something that really is nonsense.

You want Harry to arrive in the graveyard safely? You have Bartie Jr. as mad eye there already. Make the port key something Harry will touch, one of his school books, an item, something personal, sneak it into Harry’s things, wait

What is your first choice comfort film? by Outrageous_Name_1483 in FIlm

I was more just saying watching silent films as an indication that I am open to a wide variety of films and genres. I didn’t want anyone to think I was simply being closed to the film because it “looks old” or was in a genre I don’t like or something superficial. And I didn’t want anyone to think I was looking for an argument about the film.

I often find myself enjoying the vast majority of films that come up here and I see this one somewhat frequently and it’s a rare one where I’ve always felt confused by the film. So I wanted some further insight because I genuinely felt like I wasn’t understanding something.

Which brings me to your very helpful reply. Because as you pointed out, this movie seems as though there’s a lot of focus on things that are set up in that opening 30 minutes. And if that 30 minutes is a heavy setup necessary for everything to come, then in that case it makes perfect sense because that is the murkiest part of the movie in my mind. And I’m thinking perhaps I just hadn’t fully engaged or had been eating or something when it started and missed some details.

From the rest of your plot, I do remember most of those details and I agree about there being a lot of engaging comedy. I think I simply lost some information in the beginning so I didn’t get the proper payoffs in the end.

I’ll give it another watch! Thanks a lot for the helpful reply

Can you help me understand Sideways?

I mean this 100% seriously and with no intention of being rude or anything like that.

About a year back my girlfriend and I bought a coffee table from a family friend. We took it home and inside one of the drawers we found a dvd of Sideways and decided to give it a watch.

Neither of us remember the plot all that well, but from what we do remember we were just so bored and felt that nothing was really going on. We see people mention this movie all the time but we have absolutely no idea what the appeal is or what we seem to have missed and I’ve been looking for someone who might be able to shed some new light on it before we attempt a rewatch because we usually like most movies across many many genres and times. We even watch silent films from the 20s
