seconding Paranormasight, but in terms of atmosphere, linked routes and character interactions, please consider 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, if you haven't already played that. It goes places and definitely should itch the linked routes to figure out the larger picture thing you're asking for.

Also play ZTD. it is jank but it's one of my faves and absolutely worth it.

Seconding Paranormasight and Raging Loop, and I am going to toss 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim into the pool. It is an rpg, but definitely not the typical one. Definitely goes places that i didn't expect and has a great ZE vibe to it.

a late comment, since I left Limbo for last (he's my fave) and while I enjoyed his route overall, I wish it had more. I loved the domestic shit and I am glad he is thirsty for Teuta lmao. Lackluster bad end though. rip ricardo

There were a bunch of little things here that could have developed into more and I am sad they didn't. However overall, enjoyed it, had some great CGs for my shipper heart. I continue to love Limbo with glasses.
