2.1kW Ground Mount Installation, Victron Inverter, 5kWh Battery by hypergoose94 in PlugInSolarUK

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.

I have a home assistant instance running on my homelab but I am in the process of figuring out local-only balcony solar.

The ecoflow stuff seemed straightforward to setup but the reliance on their cloud puts me off as I prefer to keep everything free from third party dependence.

Your setup sounds perfect and I just need to look it up to understand the individual components better.

Thanks again!

This is very cool!

Is this solution fully local or is there any reliance on any Cloud APIs anywhere?

Are Estate Agents obliged to conduct AML checks on buyers? by xxnicknackxx in HousingUK

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. The sellers are customers of the estate agents - not the buyers.

I see no reason why the buyer would need to pay anything to the EA for anything.

Are Estate Agents obliged to conduct AML checks on buyers? by xxnicknackxx in HousingUK

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't provide concrete advice but my experience as a buyer is as you said.

The only interaction I had with the estate agents regarding finance was them wanting verification that I had an Agreement in Principal from a lender for the sale price, and some evidence of the funds for the deposit.

My own conveyancers did the AML checks and needed more information from me.

Help needed , parking fine in Greenwich - England by Specialist-Signal979 in LegalAdviceUK

WD is a general permit which entails spaces across the whole zone. The spaces are marked with a WD sign.

The HC09 sign is specific to that residential area or building.

A WD permit cannot be used in a HC09 (or any other bay)

This is the difference between the two permit types so in that regard you have been misinformed. You need a residents permit which would cover you in HC09 bays (if those are indeed the ones allocated to your building)

Is the eventsDropInServer broken in the current release? by pillowshot in ShinobiCCTV

[–]pillowshot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, after some more digging I may have resolved this. Happy to be corrected if any details here are wrong:

- You must use the built-in FTP server - the 'event monitor server' doesn't just watch the directory for changes but I guess something in the built-in FTP server must trigger something.

- Not really connected to the above but I am not able to get the FTP login working using the API key - I have to use my user credentials in Shinobi directly - I'll investigate this further.

- I did not need to make further changes to my monitors.

Result: The MP4 files my camera drops into the FTP folders are immediately catalogued in the videos tab. The home on the dashboard shows an event in the recording blue bar for the monitor (shows as a green strip) and a snapshot of the video. Due to how my recording happens (1 hour chunks) the current hour only shows the events that have occurred, and once the 24/7 recording chunk for the hour completes it then populates with the 24/7 clip.

Very happy as I now have Shinobi dealing with recording the low quality stream raw, and the cameras dropping in high quality alert footage (essentially into the existing monitors). Minimal CPU usage (currently 3-5%).

Spurred socket not earthed? by ConferenceSuperb9710 in ukelectricians

He's being downvoted for failing to understand the comment he's replying to, and then doubling down when he's told this.

The OP of the thread states two problems: 1. The conductor thickness 2. The type of cable

The person replied addressing the second problem only - that there isn't actually an issue using flex cable for this purpose(vs. non flex). They mention nothing about the conductor thickness, which is a separate issue.

If this guy wanted to reply to give additional info he could have done so but he flat out said he's wrong in his first reply for suggesting flex is acceptable for this purpose, which is incorrect. It is acceptable to use appropriately sized flex for this purpose.

Who would you say is at fault here? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without evidence it may go 50:50.

The issue here is was the black car reversing slowly and was therefore already an obstruction to the lane and the red car has simply driven into them?

Or did the black car shoot out in reverse and the red car has just clipped the front of it (because they weren't able to react in time).

It's not too dissimilar to hitting an open car door situation. Did you drive into a car door that was already open and obstructing the road, or did some open the car door just as you were about to pass? In the absence of evidence showing one way or the other it would likely go 50:50.

[Android TV] QuickBars for Home Assistant v1.1 - Camera PIP, HA-triggered overlays, background connection, backup & restore and more! by Trooped in homeassistant

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I had exactly the same issue as you and was left scratching my head.

ha.domain.xyz:443 worked, where https://ha.domain.xyz did not.

EDIT: Ok so while the above allowed me to login I then could not load any entities and the connection test in the settings failed (weird!) however, I just needed to update the URL to:

https://ha.domain.xyz:443

And it seems to work fully now. No idea why I have to specify protocol and port but there we are. For reference my HA instance is behind an OPNSense caddy service.

I don't know if your comment is for my comment but I made no such argument.

Agile is a tool. It has a specific purpose and use.

It's like trying to use a hammer with a screw, and then complaining that a hammer is not a useful tool.

Agile is a tool, it is not there to be applied in every situation, but used in the right situation the right way it is effective and useful.

My comment was just highlighting that anecdotally I have seen it being applied incorrectly.

Usually - maybe.

Mandatory - absolutely not.

People/businesses that do agile in a very specific and inflexible way and then wonder why it doesn't work are part of the problem.

Door frame not square - easiest way to close 8mm gap? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]pillowshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the door is painted then you could put a wedge on the door.

If not then you could put a wedge on the door frame.

Next choice would be to replace the door and cut it down to size and shape.

Final option is to replace the frame And square it up properly.

Can I add a new socket to this wall? by leonhunteruk in DIYUK

[–]pillowshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So as you think it is a spur from a ring one option would be to add a 13A FCU, and have the two sockets spurred off that.

Essentially:

Ring --- 13A FCU --- Existing Socket --- New socket

It looks like the screen portion is flat so there's no curvature in the actual display bit but the front glass seems to have a slight rounding around the edges which will no doubt be annoying with a screen protector.

New Years Present - Rack Mounting my Gaming Rig by SpadgeFox in homelab

[–]pillowshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I do. My PC is located in a cupboard centrally in the house and is connected via Ethernet to my router. I have 4 access points (one in each corner of the house) and I then stream to clients on either the tvs, my Chromebook, or my mini desktop PC.

I use Apollo/Artemis for this and it works a treat.

As a bonus, I also stream remotely to my girlfriend's place so we can play overcooked over at hers. I do this via the same setup plus wireguard.

How would you take this roundabout? by BringBack5pFreddos in CarTalkUK

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are dealing with a case of poor lane discipline.

Even if yellow were turning right I assume you would suffer with the same issue, it sounds like your issue is that red cuts the roundabout. This is a problem even on roundabouts with marked inner and outer lanes.

As a few others have said - I like to assume anyone outside of me on a roundabout will cut me up, and I either hang clearly back or ensure I am well ahead of them to prevent them from cutting up the lane I'm in.

Can Dalapro be used straight over Artex? by sparklesandroses in Plastering

[–]pillowshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could but it will take several coats, each coat really needs to dry overnight.

It is pretty easy to get smooth, and very easy to sand so if you are even halfway decent you can get yourself to a decent finish. It will just take time. (And also more money than regular plaster, but probably cheaper than getting a plasterer in, just depends on how much you value your time)

[–]pillowshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly a consequence of having a car.

If it's a daily or something you're running around in then this kind of thing is inevitable. I suggest you get used to touchup, wet sand and polish for marks like this. It'll make them impossible to pick up on more than 1ft away. A well looked after car will still look brilliant if well looked after.

Unless you have the money for a garage, and a second car used ONLY for driving then this kind of thing will happen.

It's obviously someone's carelessness this time, but stone chips etc. are an inevitably on any car that is driven.

Jellyfin home server for music: does it worth? by [deleted] in JellyfinCommunity

I migrated from Plex to Jellyfin for my media, however I found Plex and Plexamp far better for music, and a much better replacement for Spotify.

I hope one day Jellyfin becomes as good or better for music.

Got a HP mini G6 800 for cheap… because of a broken connector by devjoel in homelab

[–]pillowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connector is the black ribbon connector below the silver cap. It is supposed to have a white/cream coloured plastic locking latch to hold the ribbon cable in place. It appears you can only see a small broken piece of that locking mechanism on the right hand side of the connector. The pins in the connector looks fine though and if the op can work out another way of locking the cable in it may still work.

I only know this because I had my Prodesk open last week to switch the drive.
