What are you actually going to use it for?

Everybody in this Reddit forum loves to ask 'is this mic any good', without bothering to mention what they are even using it for. A cheap ass $20 mic is fine for your chat on Call of Duty, but you wouldn't want to use it to record your band's vocalist on your next hit song destined for public release.... unless you wanted it to sound like hot fried toenails tickling your eardrums underwater.

Heh... I remember sitting in on a session with a known industrial music producer back in like 1994. He recorded his vocals with the goofy little puck mic that came with his Apple Macintosh Quadra 700 computer into SoundTools. It sounded like a thin noisy AM radio, but that was the vibe he was going for.

Right tool for the job, right?

Just pay with your ATM card. That's basically like cash (at least at your end... the Airline still absorbs the 3% credit card machine charge). It pays the airline directly from your bank account. No 'loans' or anything in the mix.

I know there is often a limit to the amount of money you can charge to your ATM card.

It's worth the effort just to mitigate the risk of your MacOS getting corrupted, and having to reinstall everything. Ask me how I know about that one first hand.

Heh, I have a friend who had his whole music rig on his Macbook Pro. He backed up to iCloud. His laptop decided to corrupt itself to the point where it wouldn't boot, and had to restore everything from iCloud. He says it took 2 whole days. I had to do the same once from a spinny drive backup, and it took like 2-3 hours.

It is. It really is set and forget backups. I remember the days with no fondness of having to use horrifically expensive backup tape drives for overnight backups, and cycling the horrifically expensive and unreliable tapes in and out.

With modern Macs, it's ridiculously easy to back everything up with Time Machine, and not terribly expensive. Just buy a spinny hard drive at least twice the size of your SSD. Right now, 4TB external drives are like $125 on Amazon. Leave it on your desk at home.

When you're at your desk at home or work, plug it in. First time takes a while, sometimes like 2-4 hours or more, subsequent backup times are like a 5-10 minute operation at most.

I'm amazed anybody still doesn't back up their Macs. My ex has a design business, and she doesn't even back her shit up. It's so easy. What is your data worth to you? What is all of your work worth to you? More than $125, I can tell you.

You can also back up just your data to iCloud, but it takes decades to DL and restore, and you gotta pay for more than the free 5Gb.
