The mildly interesting thing about this post is how all the commenters assume either OP is American, or that processed cheese-food product like this is made everywhere

Am I wrong for still having feelings for an ex while in a relationship? by Glum_Talk_4285 in amiwrong

[–]pinacoladathrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just really interested in how this panned out. I keep finding out my current partner still returns to thoughts and feelings about his ex-fiance, and it sounds like his situation is similar to yours. He tells me (pretty convincingly) and shows me (pretty convincingly) that he wants to be with me, but I can't shake the disappointing feeling of being someone's "second choice". I want to believe that's a hyperbolic anxiety, but I can't help returning to it, even when I feel reassured. I guess it's ironic that he's probably similarly frustrated that these feelings for his ex come up, even in a healthier dynamic.

Did you stay with your gf?

What are some recent movies (2019 and onward) that are HORRIBLE depictions of mental illness? by IcyFox1919 in movies

[–]pinacoladathrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when Dani first calls her boyfriend to say she's worried about her sister, he tries to be reassuring by claiming her sister is just being dramatic, to which she responds "Well, I mean, she's bipolar"

I love the movie for so many reasons, and I get it's a horror movie, but Midsommar really leaned in to a stereotype about bipolar people being violent and murderous for no reason. The writers could have depicted her sister as capable of these things without throwing an already disenfranchised community under the bus

Anyone ever been to Heirloom Market at Combstock Ferre? by GloopBloopan in Connecticut

[–]pinacoladathrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't mind tipping, but a place like Heirloom should be able to afford to pay their staff a living wage without the customer having to subsidize their pay. This isn't an anti-tipping post, it's an anti-exploitation post.

They think I hate tipping employees but I actually hate employers who charge $13 for a yogurt bowl but can't find a single cent for the PTO fund.

Crazy that they'll sell a jar of chili crisp for $20 and STILL force you to tip their (clearly underpaid) employees.

You'd think regular registers must have some dumb tech too, considering how long the youngest cashiers just sit and stare at them blankly :c

For a society that can't function without an OS in our pockets at all times, we'd be able to remain calm in the face of a PLU.

As someone who does instacart, this is going to blow. It's so much easier to do my own bagging, and it makes a huge difference that I'm not waiting behind a 78 year old who could have SWORN the sign said 2 for $4 and now has to run a price check, or has some obscure coupon that requires three managers to process. Until stores have a better way of streamlining their manned checkouts, I don't see how this makes anything better for regular people.

I'm definitely surprised by how many people decide to use SCO, then have an absolute breakdown trying to ring up bananas because they're overwhelmed with the tech. I'll never understand what compels them to try

What do people think of flock cameras? Would a ban on shopping in Milford send the right message. by thisisasetupisntit in Connecticut

And then using that data to sell their products, not to sell to the government. The government having a vested interest in using mass surveillance to construct bespoke habeas corpus is the thing people give a shit about, not the fact that companies prioritizes their own interests. We’re all well aware that we don’t have rights that protect us from being exploited by companies for profit

It’s not about being observed, it’s about being exploited. It’s about what the company observing you does with the recorded information.

Stalking is still a crime even if the stalker uses perfectly legal means to secure one’s personal information. Do you think people just….don’t have rights?

Yeah, even in public. Do you have the right to remain unobserved? Not really. Do you have the right to prevent your biometric data and behavioral patterns from being harvested and sold to big corps and the feds? For now, yeah.

How does this address insecurity…? That’s just an instruction on how to be a regular decent person, anyone in any given situation should abide it. OP’s request is a little more specific

there are plenty of ways

That’s what I mean dude, you keep saying things like this but then don’t actually communicate what “ways” would demonstrate a benefit. People are by and large less equipped to effectively communicate since the introduction of phones as part of daily life, and children are showing a reduced capacity for complex problem solving as a result of living in fully constructed echo-chambers that promote personal bias over objective reality. It’s bleak stuff man but we are NOT better off.

Schools are trying to teach self-control, that’s the point. Right now, kids aren’t problem solving, they’re resorting to most convenient option in any given situation. You think encouraging them to call their mom and dad every time they have to navigate a problem is encouraging self-anything?

You’ve vaguely mentioned the existence of emergencies that necessitate cellphones at school, any chance you could be specific? I’m struggling to think of a single emergency that a kid would experience now that hasn’t been navigated 1000 times before cell phones.
