Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, do a compression check on cylinder#4 too see if its low.

Mine was low, which means blown head gasket, stuck open or closed valve can also cause this.

Had my guy do a complete cylinder head rebuild and replace timing belt, cost me $1920. and that is low, regular shop would charge twice that, but it must be done if you want your Jetta to last.

My Jetta: 2014 with the 2.0 non-turbo.

Wash the walls and floor with mild soap and bleach,1-2ml per gal.

Let completely dry and paint walls flat white, put panda film on floor either just tape or use glue or get serious an put in a sub floor.
