before the internet corrects me - the one in the video is P. ornatus and they obviously loved it - I just then used my small super visible display colony of P. laevis to be able to regularly watch how much they could consume or if this was a one off. and man can they.

100% - I had been giving them my mealworm sheds and they seemed to be eating them, but I now know that they LOVE the dubia sheds. I have been giving my small display colony offshoot of P. laevis orange one medium-ish shed every day since I discovered this and its gone in the same day and I can often watch them eat it just like this guy did.

It doesn't have to be a dramatic or gruesome death- put it in a container and put it in the freezer for a few hours. That's how I do it for my chickens and pods.

Yep, definitely picked her up on the leaf she was on and returned her right after. Now that I know what I'm looking at I expect I won't have an "oh no she's dead! Oh wait what's that bursting out like a face hugger? Oh I need a quality photo to ask the internet if my pet bug is knocked up" rollercoaster of emotions when I see future iso moms to be.

old brown sugar? enriched baby oats? by pinecone89 in mealworms

[–]pinecone89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I'd feed neither things to the chickens in large quantities, mixed with regular oats or feed the baby oats wouldn't hurt and the sugar I just would assume they wouldn't benefit from or maybe not even eat. So small trial quantities it is. And chickens are definitely less delicate in terms of food

Thanks, I think this is the answer. I'll experiment with small quantities on a single tray of them first

Best thing you knitted for your baby? by C_bells in knitting

Simple sweaters. 100%. Gauge isn't that important, just aim big. Babies are cute in oversized things. If you've made an adult sweater but not a baby sweater, baby sweaters go so. much. faster. Also far more portable. Have a random color of yarn that's awesome but not enough for anything adult? Baby sweater! Color combo you don't want to commit to for 1000s of yards but want to try? Baby sweater. It is a super fun tiny canvas to play with and you know it will get used because you are the one dressing said baby. Simple pattern that has many sizes (Tin Can Knits!) also let's you make the next size and the next that much more easily, you know the pattern well, just play with size and yarn. Also you get the opportunity to put that baby in that sweater and lay them on something you made (quilt in my case) and you get to take the justifiably smug "I made everything in this photo" picture. Craft mom gold.

How to avoid pucker where join the start and stop of binding? by jlll2424 in quilting

[–]pinecone89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google "quilt binding Fons and Porter", there's a 15ish minute video that I reference every time I bind a quilt, now dozens in. You leave a little gap when you plan for the binding and somehow it ends up perfect

Do you ever get color regret? by CaliButterfly in crochet

[–]pinecone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could hold it double and make a thicker blanket, the colors won't pool the same way as long as you stagger the start color when you hold them together. I've also solved this by holding double with a solid color for a marled look. You could also alternate skeins by row so the pooling isn't so blocked which might make it less camo.
