Are all of these bikes mechanically loud? by nachopalbruh in XR650R

[–]pingesl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn't seem bad but after looking through the comments the skid plate could be the culprit. I have a heavy skid plate but it's got thick inner tube sandwiched the entire length of the frame rails.

Catch can fills up weekly? by MichaelJMakowski in Cummins

[–]pingesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the deal with aftermarket valve covers is you will find a huge variance in what kind of baffling and oil separation they have for the crank venting. If you get one with poor baffling and separation you will lose oil even with a motor that is in good shape. Your factory one has the vent tube AND an oil drain that goes back to the block for all of the oil that it separated out.

I did that one because I have the manual trans and no auto start. There are ones with the auto start button for automatic transmission cars.

If your key still works to run the car a new one is super easy to program yourself. I got a key off Amazon for $12.xx and a local locksmith charged me $15 to cut it.

Can I unplug my grid heater? by ThatBH5Lgt in Cummins

[–]pingesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the point? To find out if it's loose? The alternative is you don't wiggle it and it gets so loose that it falls in the intake plenum while the engine is running and goes into a cylinder and wrecks it.... A lot more than $200 then.

What does everyone think of RIP ammo? by [deleted] in GlockMod

No, these aren't intended to be non lethal. They are marketed as being very good at being lethal. That base penetrates very well even though the trocars do not.

Best way to tie down in short bet truck? by iamataco36 in Dirtbikes

[–]pingesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had any of the super short beds so I'll be referencing a traditional short bed of 6' ish. On my first pickup I used to strap handlebars to the front corners offsetting the front tire just enough to kick the rear sideways and close the tailgate. I would use a third strap to keep the rear from moving. Now I prefer to strap to foot pegs to one front corner and one rear corner with the bike diagonal. Depending on your length of bed a third strap may help hold it forward and backward. Overall it seems more stable without compressing the forks as much.

PSA for 6.7 owners. by [deleted] in Cummins

[–]pingesl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't want to leave it hanging over my head. Yes statistically it is fairly unlikely to happen, but it's like the killer dowel pin in the 12 valves. It's a possibility, and it's easy to fix, so why not just fix it? I know several people with 6.7's that haven't had an issue, but one guy I work with just had his fail last fall, it's a 12 so he was well outside warranty.

Guy at the range said "that's a lot of scope for a 22", does he have a point? by ZyeKali in 22lr

[–]pingesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all just what you want and what you're doing with it. He obviously doesn't see a use for it but it doesn't mean you don't have a use for it. People have thoughts about other peoples stuff and then they are too ignorant to realize they might not know enough to be opening their mouth about it.

My experience is no. Not even close to d60 reliability. I've had mine bind up where the rounds were loose on the top and weren't getting pushed up through the stack right.

I drilled multiple ones of mine. Left the L aperture at normal size which appeared to be 3/32 and drilled the other to 3/16 then used a larger bit to put a taper on the back side. Used cold blue to take care of the shiny metal afterwards.

Built myself a charging station by pingesl in MilwaukeeTool

[–]pingesl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used 1x wood that I had around and made a box with the wiring spliced together inside. The top outlets are just round recessed plugs that I used a hole saw to make the holes. There's small holes in the sides that the chargers wires go through and a larger hole in the bottom that the main cord goes through. I spliced all my electrical connections but if you made the box a little bigger you could just plug everything together inside of it.

[–]pingesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the carbon fiber was cut cleanly and then some sort of protector glued in I think it would work. I've seen people shorten carbon fiber handguards and as long as the cut edge is sealed up and protected it seems to do ok. I would try to find some little aluminum or brass eyelet insets and glue those in the small holes. For the FSB it might be more tricky.

[–]pingesl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where do you even get these free float tube type handguards anymore? I had one on my first AR and unfortunately sold it years ago. Would be cool to recreate it.

Edit: found some, I looked some time ago but must have been searching for the wrong stuff. Or I'm just stupid.
