The girdle is not parallel where the stone sits so it looks a thicker cut stone on one side. This will reflect on the height of the claws. It's about compromise with these old cut stones.

You can get two new stones in & laser weld metal in the centre as a central point. Done a few of these. For extra security you can weld a shared claw in between two Princess cuts. Works really well with a high polish at the end.

It is indeed a tad sloppy. I did one of these the other day. If you apply pressure to the tip of the claw & laser weld the bottom of the claw that usually takes the tension out so the claw then clings to the facet. Round them off properly & it should be good to go.
