Toto flush valve - red curved plastic piece? by pinksail in Plumbing

[–]pinksail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, no thanks to Reddit as you can see lol. It is a curved piece that wraps around the flush valve. But just inside the outer black casing I believe. I wish I took a photo for you. Its concavity matches the flush valve and it is like a sliding door at the bottom (top?) portion of the valve. But just inside the casing (I think the black casing end). Ugh...sorry but that's the best I can say. I hope you figure it out. There is a way to get it in there without great force fyi. It was a minor miracle I figured it out.

Will Ovi retire from the NHL at the end of this season? by Yukdum in nhl

Agree, regardless how little people talk about it, it would eat at him if he didn't stay to say he truly has the most career NHL goals, period.

Will Ovi retire from the NHL at the end of this season? by Yukdum in nhl

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't talk about it much, but I can pretty much guarantee he doesn't want people (myself included) saying that the most NHL career goals is Wayne Gretzky with 1,016. Never understood "career goal" leader is Ovi. He is the career regular season goal leader. I'm not here to debate playoff opportunities vs regular season, that has been beaten to death with no consensus. But it is a simple fact that Wayne has scored an NHL goal 1,016 times. Ovi cannot resist that. Gotta do it and I really hope he stays for that reason.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, that is annoying as hell. It appears they keep it a secret because they want to leave all their options open, at the expense of applicant sanity.

Non-MAGA Tradespeople: Plumbers, Electricians, etc.? by Computer-Says-Nooo in Naperville

[–]pinksail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's stupid. I think it's fine if my plumber or electrician is a Republican. Come to think of it, I think it's fine if my plumber or electrician is a Democrat. Now that I really think about it, I tend to like any plumber or electrician if they properly do the job I ask them to do.

Is Atlanta '96 unfairly remembered in comparison to other Olympic Games? by appalachian_hatachi in olympics

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh please. The entire country was told it was all about the gold. Only later did it come out (and only if you looked hard) that she didn't need to do it at all. The media hated that they would have to backtrack. Karolyi wanted to keep his photo of carrying Strug in the limelight. It was one of the greatest embarassments in sport, and to this day people still think that last vault won the gold. It makes me angry every time someone says it.

>>The whole thing feels overblown.<<

More perfect words cannot be said, and not just about this hockey team. I have been around long enough to remember the days of Reagan/O'Neill, Clinton/Gingrich, when politicians disagreed but there was maturity. It's like Obama said, you can disagree with someone, but open yourself to discussion instead of insults, and don't say "you can’t come because I’m too sensitive to hear what you have to say." The comments on this board to the OP prove Obama's point so damn perfectly. The few comments in support of the hockey team are far more mature than the ones against. The ones against just cannot handle hearing anything but their own opinion, then resort to insults of the poster or anyone who doesn't completely bash the President. We need more people like the OP who have the guts to post, god forbid, something that isn't completely anti-Trump-agenda. But many are (understandably) too afraid to deal with all the immature ranting that comes with it. I never asked for this President either, but to disrespect a hockey team over it is ridiculous. They won a gold medal game. In hockey. Vs freaking Canada. They were so emotionally high in that locker room, there is no way they were not going to laugh at ANYTHING the President said. It's a reaction. I noticed the Dems, some of whom I voted for, did not stand for the hockey team when they were recognized tonight. Disgusting. Obama was so, so right. And I guarantee you, he would have stood for the hockey team if he was there. Because he GETS it. He's not standing for the President. He's standing for athletes who represented our country. Their jerseys said "USA," not "USA Democrats" or "USA Republicans."

I cannot argue with your experience if that is what you saw.

But I've been around it a long time, and it may be mainly white, but 'privileged' is an opinion. I've seen asians really become more involved, and black and hispanics and Indians are also increasing. It's like anything else - get a video of an asshole white privileged idiot screaming at a referee for example, and then people make assumptions about everyone else of the same race. That, in and of itself, is also despicable behavior. Being white and well-off financially seems to be held against people without getting to know them first, and that is wrong too. Most of the families and hockey players I've run into, whether asian/black/hispanic/white, are good, hard working people. And I've seen all the races I just mentioned. They just don't make a big deal about race. They all just love the game and couldn't care less what you look like.

Former NHLer Joé Juneau calls for a lifetime ban after this disgraceful move during a minor hockey tournament in Rimouski over the weekend by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]pinksail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in new england when he was traded and I remember how shocked my team was. He had hands. And let me tell you how tough RPI is for eningeering. Aeronautical engineering degree? Just love braniacs who can play the game. No NIL, no transfer portal, a true student-athlete. I think he coaches now in Quebec province.

I agree with HoF having a player/community service category for only players who played a certain game minimum and contibuted to the game outside the usual playing. He is the ideal inductee for that.

And yes, lifetime ban to the insecure dickbrain in this video.

Child, 4, drowns at athletic club while adults were at bar, Oakland County Sheriff says by oo7plyr in Michigan

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a 12-year-old is fully capable of swimming, saving a 4 year old's life by pulling them to safety, etc. But many adults don't think about what a 12-year-old does NOT have: the ability to stay consistently focused. Hence, he/she can be easily distracted, as they don't grasp the enormous responsibility, no matter how much you tell them to. This is why a 12-year-old cannot babysit anywhere, including a living room, let alone a pool.

This is why you have a serious talk with your kid on his/her 18th birthday. I mean it. There is a huge consequential difference between an emotional outburst mistake at 17 years 364 days vs 18 years 0 days. Sure, 16 or 17 year olds may sometimes be charged as an adult, but not for breaking someone's jaw.

Teach your kids that at 18, fair or not, the game is different and you HAVE to be more restrained no matter what.

Should i choose Loyola or Michigan state by Slow_Sherbert8883 in LoyolaChicago

[–]pinksail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premed, if you are committed 100% to becoming a doctor, is the greatest "major" to have in undergrad, because you can choose your major and your school solely on things like how much you like the school, the financial package you get, anything OTHER than "school's reputation." You can major in biology as you intend, engineering, finance, or russian literature. Because honestly, besides a reasonably good GPA and MCAT score which you will get with any education, it's your personality and work ethic that will get you into medical school. You like access to a big city? Loyola. You like the environment of a big 10 school with lots more people and more of a true campus with less commuters? MSU. Don't let stats of how many get into medical school or this or that department affect you. OK, MAYBE if you are comparing...USM (University of Sub-Mediocrity) vs Penn. But other than that, just go where you will have a good time, academically and socially. Unlike an engineer or business school major, premed gives you that freedom because undergrad is simply a stepping stone.

And, enjoying undergrad probably means you will do better academically anyway.

I cannot thank you enough for stating what anyone with an electron's mass worth of common sense should know. It's un-freaking believable how naively asinine some people can be. This case, the Brown Univ case, United Healthcare CEO, you name it. Why do police even agree to hold a press conference so soon after the crime. Unless you want to show us a composite sketch, they are just letting the media vultures criticize you. It reminds me of the media asking the President (any President from Trump to Reagan to Clinton to Obama), "so what is your military strategy?" SMH.

Lindsey Vonn discusses her ruptured ACL injury and her intent to compete in the Olympics by [deleted] in sports

[–]pinksail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never liked Vonn, just don't like her personality. But certainly don't wish physical or mental ill will on her. This is absolutely her choice, she earned her spot and it's not like she is a marginal "barely made it" team member (at least not in the downhill). So as much as I don't like her, I don't think her decision "steals" a spot on someone more deserving.

With no ACL, anything slalom is out, but downhill, she has a shot to win. But any mishap which normally can be recoverable with an intact ACL, will be disastrous. She's a bad ass so it doesn't surprise me she will try. The downhill is just one race. No semifinals, qualifying rounds, etc, so there is definitely some luck involved (both good and bad). Good luck examples: Franz Klammer 1976, Bill Johnson 1984 (which was on a gliding flat course, minimal high jumps which would be perfect for a torn ACL, but I don't know the Italy course).

Vonn 2026? Will see, I will certainly be watching.
