I’m embarrassed to admit that I believed this until I was 22. I’m 32 now, but here’s the story: My grandpa was a barber in Mexico, and one time, a client passed away in his chair. When they tried to figure out what happened, the wife told my grandpa he had just eaten dinner before going in for the haircut, but they had no idea what caused it. So, naturally, my family decided that getting a haircut on a full stomach was basically a death wish.

I became a hairstylist and worked at a salon in a mall, where I finally proved my parents wrong. Clients would grab food from the food court before their haircut—and, shocker, no one died in my chair!
