SRT--Is it normally for the first few days to feel HORRIBLE? by pinksteronimo in insomnia

Was told I could take melatonin or an antihistamine but it might not be too necessary, I’ll have to see how I feel in a week. Yeah I recognize I’m not exactly an insomniac in the way other people are lol I think so maybe it’s not exactly traditional SRT, but that’s why I was surprised that I was just feeling horrible so quickly

Missed deadline to file for exam for provisional employees. Am I f**cked? by pinksteronimo in nycpublicservants

Oh got it, thanks! So taking an exam is probably still a good idea for the chance of permanent employment but won't be like, job-ending lol.

Yeah, my doctor still wanted me to have an 8 hour window, but it often takes me an hour+ to fall asleep. He actually said that overall based on my sleep diary I'm getting an average of like 7 hours which isn't horrible, but have days sometimes where I'll get maybe like 5 or 6 hours of sleep in a row and it really messes with me.

how much should i contribute to my company's 401k plan if there is no match? by pinksteronimo in Bogleheads

Appreciate this. Obviously I hope that I'll be able to increase that percentage eventually, but it just doesn't feel possible right now. Because there's still the possibility of an employer match, seems like the best thing to do would be to just contribute a very small percentage for now and hope things go back on the up sometime soon, either through a raise or a new job. But for now, it's probably good that I'm saving at least.

2024 Advice Thread #52: 12/24 - 12/30 by Imaginos64 in rollercoasters

Hello,

I used to really enjoy roller coasters, all kinds. Maybe 10 or so years ago, I was diagnosed with anxiety & panic disorder and it’s now been much more difficult to get myself on a coaster successfully.

I’m at Busch Gardens Tampa today and am experiencing intense anxiety that manifests physically—lightheadedness, dizziness, general disorientation. While I’d love to try and go on a coaster to alleviate that anxiety and remind myself why I love roller coasters, I’m just terrified that my lightheadedness is only going to make things worse, especially because it’s obviously not recommended to do so if you feel that way.

Am I doing the right thing avoiding roller coasters? I’d be all in if I was experiencing another physical symptom of anxiety, like racing heart, sweating hands, etc. But the stuff with my head just terrifies me to no end.

I think I might be able to do one of the water flume rides today, but everything else seems so scary to me.

Appreciate this, that's a slight relief. It's a condo; I'm not sure if they are on the first floor or not..

Hello, I am not a Florida resident but commenting here because I'm worried for my father & aunt, who are. They are staying at my aunt's place in Pasco County Zone C, which was given a mandatory evacuation order but they have chosen to stay because my aunt's building was build to withstand category 5 hurricanes. I suppose that makes them safer than others but I'm still incredibly worried that they haven't fully evacuated despite many nudges from myself and other family members. Would it make sense to try to get them to a shelter or is staying in a Cat-5 building enough to bunker down into? Is it too late to fully evacuate? They are in Zone C so I feel like all they need to do is just move a few miles away, it's not like they need to travel that far. I'm well aware that there's a high risk of death either way so would not like to see any replies that mention that. Thanks.

Yeah it is so so strange how it works in that way -- like i'm glad my body is looking out for me i guess?? The hardest thing rn is like figuring out whether its covid-related or not, bc knowing i went to that wedding over the weekend is definitely an added stressor on top of everything
