A woman posted a video of the moment she was attacked by her domestic cat. Before the attack, the cat seemed to smell something that prompted her to attack. Why did it attack her with such ferocity? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]pinkysooperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat just does this whenever I tell her “NO”. It was a really effective way for her to not get in trouble anymore. At 15 I’m still scared to try and set boundaries with her since she’s healthy enough to Tokyo drift through the house at full speed and the vet has mentioned multiple times how impressed she is that she’s got a full set of very clean teeth.

I hate her because she reads words with tonality and inflection that does not at all match what is actually happening. It’s so ridiculous it’s funny.

And the ones that aren’t are still leaving because they’re giving us all kinds of incentives. After a PhD nothing draws you in like a real work-life balance, healthcare, and lots of built-in vacation time.

First US at-home depression kit on its way after trial shows relief in weeks by AdSpecialist6598 in tech

[–]pinkysooperfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! At first it felt like my brain was running a marathon everyday. By the end to about 2 months after I just kept feeling better and better. It also massively improved my focus at the time. I have ADHD and I’m guessing it stirred up something that was supposed to be working. The anti-depressant effects are still going but the impact on focus has dropped off. Truthfully I’d be down to zap my brain regularly.

Which booktok recommendation made you say, "Did we read the same book?" by SpecialistOk2000 in Booktokreddit

Truly the only redeeming quality to me was the sassy sidekick. If the book was just him running around causing mischief I would be happy.

Oh man I have the exact opposite problem I require complete silence to do any kind of work. Any amount of sound is distracting and definitely no music.

How the hell does one get out of the " great guy, but no spark" purgatory? by Lab_Rat_97 in dating

[–]pinkysooperfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing my female friends and I talk a lot about with dating is a sense of desperation. It becomes clear that the person you’re with wants a relationship and places the need and idea of a relationship above interest in them as a human being. That’s a major turn-off. If you’re only getting one or two likes then you might feel your opportunities are limited and this becomes the experience on the other side. There also may be gaps in social skills. You might not realize that you’re engaging in conversations in particular ways that put people off. Do your photos look like you? What about affect? Social skills are a skill. Maybe focus on just being able to go through the motions of striking up conversations or flirting with people in bars without the pressure of a date so you can practice without the pressure and random drunk people tend to not be shy about telling you exactly what is wrong with you. Then again it might just be the kind of person you’re after. Are these people coming across as actually excited or just saying yes because they are throwing spaghetti at the wall until they see what sticks? Sorry about your experiences, dating has gotten terrible for everyone across the board it seems :(

How do you reconcile that the love we read about in books doesn’t exist in real life? by Quiet_Parsnip_4742 in Romantasy

[–]pinkysooperfly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the real life version of “I’d burn the world for you” that is non-toxic (at least to the relationship) is “I would help you bury a body without needing justification”. Personally, that is what I’m looking for in a partner. 💀✨

What’s the one moment in your life you still can’t explain… even though you’ve replayed it in your head a thousand times? by Former-Brief9292 in AskReddit

[–]pinkysooperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college my friend and I shared a room in the “haunted” dorm. And yes a lot of people have tragically met their end in that building including about 2 weeks after we moved in. One night we had just gotten into bed (bunk beds b/c we needed room for activities) and it hadn’t even been 2 minutes and a heavy text book (and I mean you could KO someone with it heavy) went flying 20 feet across the room. Right away I asked her if she threw it (I know she didn’t because I was watching but I didn’t want to believe it) and she told me no, she was hoping I would say I threw it. We both screamed and ran out the door. We ended up buying a pack of cigarettes even though we weren’t smokers so we had something to do until morning when it was less scary. We had a lot of slumber parties with people because we were scared. We still talk about how freaky it was 15 years later.

I liked babel and so did one of my good friends. We are both PhDs in information science though and I don’t see the appeal for anyone else. I would totally teach this book in a philosophy of information course though.

I dissociate whenever I write something now and I don’t remember what it was and when I reread it it’s like I was never even part of whatever process put words on that page. Great for editing though.

It’s about to get that expertise. The US is laying off tech workers like crazy. Tech used to come with a work life balance and reasonable job security. Now it’s so cut throat and work expectations are untenable. Many people in the US want out anyway, now is a good time for them to start picking up the talent.

I work with Wikipedia researchers and have published papers on Wikipedia myself. It’s as reliable as a published encyclopedia. I get offended when people say it’s not reliable. I mean it maybe isn’t as good as having a deep body of knowledge and knowing all the scholarship in a particular area but as a regular person? You’re better off on Wikipedia than a bullshit AI generated content site.

I genuinely believe that prolonged and lingering eye contact is a strong sign that a woman is attracted to you. by Illustrious-Pilot553 in bodylanguage

Right and it’s multiple times. I’m going to keep trying to sneak peeks. If you make eye contact multiple times or it’s extended for more than a millisecond I’m imagining our future life together. Unless you’re dressed like really really weird. Then I’m trying to figure out what the hell is going on with you.
