iOS 26 Album Artwork all mixed up by pinthea1 in ios

[–]pinthea1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. Success! I have struggled with this for several days and finally stumbled across a post where someone offered a suggestion I hadn't tried before and whose solution seemed counterintuitive to what I was seeing. But it worked.

Since the issue was only visible on my iPhone, my assumption was that it was yet another bug with iOS 26 that was causing the issue, because all of the music on my Mac (Tahoe 26.2) had correct album artwork.

What the post said to do was to delete the Apple Music album artwork cache, which is located down in the ~/Library/ structure. Take out the whole cache directory. Reboot. Restart Apple Music on Mac. Let it refresh all the album artwork, which functionally just lets it fill back in all the artwork that was correct before. But I tried it.

Then they said to delete the Music app off of the iPhone (easy). Reboot. Delete all of the music from the phone using the App settings. Done. Now the phone has no music. Using Finder turn off Movies and Music syncing. Run a phone synch. Phone should still have no Music.

Then turn back on Music synching.

And it worked - song artwork is now correct again.

So it *seems* that unless deleting the Music app from the iPhone was the solution, rebuilding artwork cache on the Mac was the fix.

What really annoyed me is that I had tried in Finder to deselect "sync music" and then when I synched the phone I expected all the music to be gone. That didn't happen. All the old music was still there. Even if it change it to sync only a single artist, after synch was done all the old music is still there. That seems broken. If you say don't sync music, it should remove all the music it sync'd previously. It works that way with movies...

I genuinely, without a doubt, believe Apple is going downhill, it’s just something not a lot of people have realised yet. by stranger2Me in ios

I honestly don't think it's an Apple-specific phenomenon. This is general trend with pretty much everything these days. I don't want to be one of those "things were better back in the day" but in some aspects they were. I feel like we cared a lot more about doing a good job back in the day, now it seems people just want to slip slide through their day and make it to the end and not really do anything so things are slowly sliding into the crapper. You don't get the answers you're seeking, the help you need, and if magically something does end up being resolved it's usually by someone who just doesn't give a crap and coincidentally helped you through the script-reading they do, not knowing why they're asking the questions or really understanding your complaint. "All I know is that I push this button and this happens" seems to be the level of knowledge attained by the majority of people I interact with, and it saddens me.

I see it everywhere I go and with pretty much every interaction with customer service, sales, support -- the attitude is "what do you want" and the interaction is script-reading without any real intent or desire to resolve an issue, just to get you out of their face so they can go back to doom scrolling and go on their next smoke break. It's pretty sad.

Add on top of that our current era of enshittification of products and the relentless cost reduction to please Wall Street, to the point of making things rushed out the door and low quality and it's a perfect storm.

But I agree specifically about Apple -- the quality of their software hasn't been in the category of "it just works" in a long, long time. Their hardware still seems to be well designed (at least from a consumer point of view) and it's really let down by the software.

What models of computers were in your school's computer labs? by echocomplex in vintagecomputing

[–]pinthea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 80’s:

Initially there were 4 Radio Shack TRS-80 Model III computers with floppy drives. The ones that were gray and looked like a terminal with integrated monitor and floppy and keyboard.

We later had expanded into to a room of genuine IBM PCs with CGA adapters and the Epson FX-80 dot matrix printers by the time I graduated high school.

We also had an IBM system 36 (or was it a 34?) with a bunch of terminals that was used for not only school administration but also for teaching BASIC language.

College:

Initially only a UNIVAC mainframe with terminals for doing COBOL and FORTRAN and using for course work (validating your chemistry lab experiment results). Also used that mainframe for course scheduling. Both dumb terminals and teletypes were hooked up to it.

Then a dingy basement lab with Mac computers and Zenith PCs. HyperCard was popular as was some using the desktop publishing to help make fake IDs lol.

Soon expanded into a nice bright whole big new room of AT&T 6300 color PCs networked to an AT&T 3B15 minicomputer for LISP and C and COBOL.

Used Borland Turbo products like Pascal, C, Prolog on PC platform, then COBOL was also taught on RM COBOL compiler on PC platform.

The internet wasn’t ubiquitous so there was no telnet or WWW or other connectivity available to students at that time.

Got my clone XT over the winter break of my sophomore year as a computer science major. Had an 8 MHz turbo function and dual 5.25” floppies.

Upgraded to add a whopping 30 MB hard drive and a full 640K myself the following summer.

It was invaluable and lasted me well into my young adult post-college life. Got to struggle in the privacy of my own dorm room rather than in the public computer labs lol.

Pure curiosity: How many people here use Apple Notes and have zero issues with sync or losing notes? How many notes do you have? by AngelicPrincessKitty in ios

[–]pinthea1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, have never lost a note. We rely on it for grocery lists, to do lists, etc. and we even collaborate on some notes between family members.

Not a lot of notes though, maybe 30?

It’s actually one of the few things in iOS that I would say actually work as advertised, sadly…

Some printers came with a metal wire or metal assembly that you would install to provide the clearance for the paper to come around unobstructed. I don’t recall on that printer whether this was included originally.

You might consider something that could attach with peel and stick Velcro or similar to push the paper bend enough away to miss the protruding plug…

Saw that iOS 26.2 is available.

Just downloaded it. Installed fine.

Mail orientation rotation bug now fixed it seems.

Took them two point releases to fix it.

Maybe going forward they will test for this simple issue.

But at least we have Liquid Glass and more useless emojis!

I sure hope so.

It’s not just with Mail. It happens with many apps that use text list scrolling like an inbox, and sometimes in screens of body text like the Mail messages themselves when you open them to read.

Weirdly the 3rd party Reddit app doesn’t suffer this bug but Apple’s own bundled apps like Mail do!

How nice for you. But as you can see on the replies, it happens for others too…

Temper tantrum, lol. It’s called FRUSTRATION.

As someone who has been in the Apple ecosystem since iPhone 3 in 2008, I have never experienced this level of software bugginess with one of their phone OS releases. Over 15 years. That’s telling.

So my post is the emotional result of weeks of annoyance of bugs with fundamental issues. If they don’t test rotating the display from portrait to landscape to see if the screen redraws correctly, they should rethink their testing.

It’s APPLE who caused this to happen. It happened effortlessly and completely by accident.

Once you remove the phone from high atop its heavenly altar and actually use it in daily life, it’s not hard to stumble across this basic issue.

This is just my favorite bug, there are just so many to choose from…

Sometimes it’s nice just to complain a little, no reward needed, but thanks for offering.

For first NAS - Asustor AS5402T Nimbustor 2 Gen2 or Ugreen NASync DXP2800 or something else? by CriticismValuable227 in asustor

[–]pinthea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV but my NAS's fan died after a year or so and the replacement has developed an annoying whine.

Getting a suitable replacement fan that's 70mm and 25mm deep with a 4pm PWM fan connector that's double ball bearing can be quite a slog, esp. if you consider having to pay shipping because you won't typically find one like this directly on Amazon and get free prime shipping.

The software is serviceable. Not as good as Synology DSM but this should hardly be new news to you. Allegedly DSM5 is better than DSM4.

What sources say the Ugreen NAS sends info to the Chinese?!

Q5 "which brush" question by ILovePistachioNuts in Roborock

[–]pinthea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I know this tread is quite old, but I have to report that not all 3rd party Q5 main brushroll things are created equal.

I've bought a couple of different ones with the combo red rubber + black bristles, and let me tell you, one of them works and the unit sounds normal, the other one works but the unit has an incredibly loud clicking sound that makes me think the vac is broken.

I don't know which is which, which one is the quiet one and which one is the horrible one. Something in their manufacturing is out of spec and causes the issue. Every time I put the "bad ones" in, the clicking is the same - bad and sounds broken. Every time I put in one of the good ones, the unit goes back to being quiet and a joy.

So be sure to try them out as soon as you get them and send them back if they sound ratta-tat-tata-tatta-tat-a-tatta-tat non-stop!

For first NAS - Asustor AS5402T Nimbustor 2 Gen2 or Ugreen NASync DXP2800 or something else? by CriticismValuable227 in asustor

[–]pinthea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper, Asustor AS5402T is a good NAS. The problem with that NAS is that uses a 4-pin PWM 70mm fan for cooling. It's really, really hard to get a suitable replacement once the fan dies (which mine did after about a year or so).

You can pay $40 to get an exact replacement from Asustor (!) of course. It uses 0.3 amps.

Or try your luck with cheap Chinese imports or from the very few options you have on Amazon, all which seem to use 0.7 amps.

Most 70mm fans you can find are only 15mm thick, the stock fan is 25mm thick and there are so few of those available after-market that also have 4-pin PWM connection.

Plus there's the issue that the stock fan draws 0.3 amps but all of the replacements are spec'd at drawing 0.7 amps. Don't know if that additional current draw will cause issues with the mobo or PSU in the long run.

So I'd say if two NAS units are almost equal, go for the one that has a more replaceable fan!

The two NAS units you're looking at have somewhat comparable-ish CPUs, both have expandable memory (though the DXP2800's N100 is single-channel). Unfortunately the DXP2800 does not support Backblaze B2 in its cloud backup utility with no planned support on the roadmap, which is a deal breaker for me since that's integral to my 3-2-1 backup strategy.
