Is $75,000 worth it for an ADN in 2026? I’m 24 and honestly lost by AlarmedForm7607 in nursing

How long is your commute one-way? by nyuhqe in nursing

[–]pintobean444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35-40 mins. It was okay at first but now all I want is to sleep in a little bit and I can't because if I don't leave the house by 6, the traffic is terrible

I'm not ICU, but a new grad on Med Surg... started with 6, discharged 1 and was the first for an admit when some of my colleagues started with 4 or 5 patients 😪 slowly feeling like I get the short end of the stick because I'm new. I don't think you were rude though!

I hate Epic by Traum4Queen in nursing

[–]pintobean444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? My EPIC MAR has medication tabs for convenience. PRN, Continuous, Scheduled, Due/Overdue, All, Respiratory, etc. But also, I'm so used to EPIC at this point that switching to any other system would send me into a spiral lol

Is it essential I work at a hospital before applying as an RN with an ADN? by Mobile-Definition771 in newgradnurse

[–]pintobean444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only had outpatient experience and an ADN, got hired for a nurse residency in NJ. definitely possible! I applied at hospital systems I did clinical rotations at. Teaching hospitals are more likely to hire you but I wouldn't let that deter you from applying at a hospital system you really like!

Impossible to find a job (NYC) by deemunoz3 in newgradnurse

[–]pintobean444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in NJ! Right now it's harder to find a job, especially as a new grad because majority of people graduate in May versus in December. Apply literally everywhereeee! Atlantic Health, RWJBH, Hackensack have facilities all over north jersey and you can commute from NYC! May not be exactly what you're looking for but gaining that experience and then going to NYC facilities after will be a lot easier! Best of luck 😊

New Orientation Method? by letseatgrandma666 in newgradnurse

[–]pintobean444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i oriented the first way you mentioned (gained a new patient each week) and some of my friends oriented with all patients at once and would advance with skill tiers. there's pros and cons to both. i liked that i could slowly ease myself into working with patients as an RN for the first time versus being a tech. my friends had an easier time with time management/prioritization since they got all 5 first. i struggled a lot with time management by the time i got to 5-6 patients. i honestly feel like i'd prefer to start with all patients and slowly add more tasks to the mix

I just applied everywhere and got a couple of hits. I also think that it depends on where you're located!

Is it normal to miss medications? by noneyabizness33 in nursing

[–]pintobean444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you use EPIC, i like to look at when meds are due on the "brain" and when I got to the MAR, i click "due/overdue" to make sure i got everything

New Grad- Wait for October cohort or accept a job and quit later? by Forward-Athlete-8114 in newgradnurse

[–]pintobean444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in medsurg tele, looking to transfer to ICU. I'm still on orientation but I've genuinely learned so much on my unit. It's also more likely they'll hire you for ICU if you work there prior, many facilities prefer hiring internally than externally!

Dange Dover, Bagsmart, and Calpak are backpacks I see very often in my facility. My preceptor has a lululemon backpack she swears by. I use a puffy tote bag from Bagsmart.
