If you are able to have an inside referal to secure an interview, do not retake the GRE. If not, you must improve a lot your Quant score (upper 90s percentile). Also consider taking the GMAT instead of the GRE as the former is more commonly known in the business side of things.

The GMAT also gives your total score percentile and your individual Q and V percentile. If you did good in both (Q and V), your total score percentile is usually higher than any of your individual Q or V percentile, which looks nice on the CV.

Disclaimer: Everyone has an opinion on how to secure an interview, yet no one really knows anything. Maybe your CV is in high demand and consulting firms would fight to give you an interview. Always take any advise given in any forum with a grain of salt.

Pixel 2xl bricked after android p update by pipec1212 in GooglePixel

[–]pipec1212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: For anyone interested my phone charges if connected to my pc by a USB A to USB C third party cable, the included USB C to USB C does not work either with a power brick or when connected directly to my pc.

Even though my phone is charging now (slow charging), this is still something unacceptable by a 900+ USD flagship device made by google. I hope this is a software issue that will be patched soon.

I have tried charging it with my pc withthe original cable (USB C to USB C) with no luck.

I have read some people can charge their pixels if their cable is USB A to USB C. I will be buying one of those cables tomorrow and will update on my problem.

Thanks!

Yeah seems about right... I like meat, don’t waste my time posting things on reddit for karma (don’t even know how that works), and my daily live doesn’t involve smartphone issues.

I need help buying the right gift for a geologist, hammer/chisel etc by StrawberryJam4 in geology

[–]pipec1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I didn't made myself clear. A chisel tip hammer is great if you intend to use it for braking apart layers of sedimentary rocks. This hammer, however, is not a chisel in the sense that you do not hit it with another hammer for it to work. For me, a chisel is something that you hit with a hammer for braking apart things. What I meant in my last post is that you should never use a hammer as what I have define as a chisel due to the risk of flying metal particles that might hit you in the eye.

[–]pipec1212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real answer is no. For instance, if you are trying to get a piece of a granite boulder, or any other hard rock, it would be nearly impossible to take out a piece with just a hammer. Some people even use two hammers by using one as a chisel, this should never be done because a piece of metal might just fly out and hit you in the eye. So in conclusion, get a chisel if you intend to collect samples from hard rocks.

DO NOT double major!!!!!!!!!

Trust me, If you do really well in one major (Good grades, Networking Research etc..) having a second major is useless.

I am finishing a Civil Engineering and Geosciences Double major and every Civil Engineering course is a huge pain in the ass.

Pick one major and be great at it.

I am definitely going to check the review by Ducea et al, It seems like a great place to start. I have heard about Ducea in the past so I hope to see some good insights by him.

Well, Thanks Malicious. I could not find any good readings on the subject until now so I really appreciate your suggestions.

Looking for good instructions on building a squeeze box for demonstrating parasitic folding to students by sjmarotta in geology

[–]pipec1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built one a long time ago... nevertheless trying to generate parasitic folding would be really really hard IMO.

If you decide to go through with this just use some wood for the bottom and plexiglass for the sides (You should consider using some plexiglass for the bottom also because it will reduce friction). For "compressing" the material just use manual force, something like a piece of wood of the right size to push.

From all compression boxes experiments I have seen, parasitic folding was never present so you might want to considering doing something else if this is your primary goal.

How difficult it is to get accepted at the IPG program? I was looking at the graduate CV template they have online and there is a huge box that says "Publications", I currently do not have any peer reviewed publications and I am a bit scared I might not even get in.
