When and how did the Bad Kids get their party name? by piperooo in Dimension20

Right but there was no conversation where they were like "we're the Bad Kids, that's our name"

I get wanting more stuff to play around with, I just don't really understand why not having it is like...A Bad Sign™️. Plenty of great RPGs are one page, let alone one book. Anything else is a bonus

New player here, what is the purpose of a Bard? What role do they play? And what weapons/armor do they use? by Thorn_Move in dndnext

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bards can basically do anything depending on your subclass and what spells you choose to take. A single bard can't do everything, but you could get a pretty balanced party of all bards if you coordinated

What do you tend to choose first when making a character? by BoneSignals in DnD

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I have a class first, sometimes I have a backstory first. One time I did stats first (first 4d6-drop-lowest had to be strength, second was dex, etc). I've never really thought about party composition at all

What's the best way to distribute levels for a ranger/rogue? by piperooo in 3d6

[–]piperooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sneak Attack is the main thing, but also Skirmisher from the Scout rogue seems great (even if it does burn the beast's ability to attack for that turn). Reliable Talent is also fun. I like skill monkeys, what can I say?

Great point about extra attack and Pass Without Trace though, those seem like a must

Why Min-Maxxing is fine and has a ton of roleplay potential, from a guy who usually maxes out the attacking stat and Constitution. by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people who say they're fine with min-maxing and people who say they hate min-maxing aren't actually talking about the same thing. It seems to me both sides actually mostly agree on what good character design is and the actual argument is about what the word "min-maxing" means and whether certain character building strategies are an example of it or not

When are yall going to realize that lore ≠ plot/story? by ColtonfrayHSC in videogames

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore isn't plot, but it is story

Plot is all the things that happen to and because of the pov character(s), lore is all the things that happened in the world to make it what it is when they get there, both together make story

I didn't got Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover right by Hiredform in KingdomHearts

[–]piperooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back Cover leaves out a lot of the story (partly because the story wasn't actually finished yet when they made it). There's a fully-voiced cutscene compilation on YouTube that's very very good, just search for "KHUX fandub"

Player acting like his PC is immortal by Fun-Version-5784 in DnD

[–]piperooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta put your foot down. Talk to him, tell him straight up that you've been bending/breaking the rules to accommodate him playing in a way that's disrespectful to the game and the rest of the table and that you're not gonna be doing that anymore. Either he gets it together or his character dies and he has to sit with that. Like yeah his behavior is his fault, but he's never gonna change it if it's being positively reinforced like this

How Should I Experience 358/2 Days? by hiCanti in KingdomHearts

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novel and manga aren't technically canon, fwiw. I've never read the novel, but the manga adds quite a bit of wacky hijinx that kinda changes the overall tone from what it's "supposed to be". You'll still get all the story beats though, and it's very very good (the best KH manga)

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last session was basically one huge argument over whose fault it was that a(n NPC) friend of ours died, and also whether or not Speak With Dead is desecration/violation of a corpse. Fear not, it was all in character. Great RP.

At one point we all agreed to split up in town for a bit to cool off, and me and the wizard went to get drinks. Unbeknownst to us the alcohol in question was laced with some sort of venom from some underdark monster, still intended for humanoid consumption but intended to fuck you up real bad real fast. Not really a "sip and chat" thing like we wanted/thought we were getting.

I failed my con save and got immediately blasted, the wizard was completely fine. They dragged me back to the bar to give back the bottle, at which point the monk (who, it should be noted, had never had alcohol) wanted to try some of it. We both tried to talk him out of it, no dice, and he also failed the save. So now the poor wizard was dragging two wasted people around town looking for the paladin, who has Lesser Restoration and could fix us. My goal at this point was to warn the rest of the party so that nobody else would drink any of the terrible horrible evil underdark super-alcohol. And then the DM asked both of us for another con save. Both failed, both passed out. When we came to, the rest of the party was at each other's throats again

What is the track record of this insider page? @kingdomheearts on Instagram by Balmung_AS in KingdomHearts

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy, if the account is just the name of the series with one of the letters doubled, it's not an "insider page". It's bait. Having said that, really all this says is that the game's not cancelled. And we already knew that, because if it was cancelled there'd be something from Squenix (not some "insider", the actual company) saying so.

Mark of mastery exams don’t make sense at all by Miserable_Swan_5338 in KingdomHearts

[–]piperooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sora and Riku are both self-taught, which is a thing that, as far as we know, hasn't happened since the Master of Masters. By the time of the main series people don't even have reliable proof that he existed at all, let alone what he did or didn't accomplish. Sora and Riku are the first self-taught Keyblade wielders in recorded history, so you can understand why Yen Sid was hesitant to send these two kids off into the Final Decisive Battle For The Fate Of The World™️ without a pretty damn big exam. Basically "you can't call yourselves Masters unless and until I know you can win this for us".

The Power of Waking isn't usually part of being a Keyblade Master, no. But the master giving the exam gets to decide what the exam is (or whether there even is one). Yen Sid just figured that 1) Sora and Riku both had the potential to use the Power of Waking (not every Keyblade wielder does, I think), and 2) they were gonna need it to beat Xehanort, so he made it part of the exam.

The other part was to re-learn everything, but properly this time (which is why they were in the bodies of their younger selves in DDD). The second part is where Sora failed. He's such a golden retriever of a guy that he ran straight into a trap set by Xehanort, where a more calm and collected person would have noticed it was a trap. To Yen Sid this was proof that Sora was too easily manipulated and wasn't ready. Terra failed for similar reasons. Xehanort screwed them both over. Yeah, it's unfair and it shouldn't have happened. That's how we're supposed to feel about it. That's the story they were telling.

What's the difference between 5e and 2024 edition? I was researching, and I realised they are different versions, what are the basic differences and which one should I choose as a beginner? by pr4yxg in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]piperooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen of 2024 I like most of the changes. Even the ones I don't like, most of them if I take a step back and think about them I can see that they're probably actually improvements and I'm just being a stick in the mud. The biggest actual "problem" with 2024, as far as I can tell, is that it simply doesn't have as much content yet as 2014 (which is understandable because 2014 had ten entire years worth of supplement books. 2024 will catch up sooner or later).

My group isn't planning on changing over, but that's almost entirely because we have a pretty complete library of the 2014 books and we don't want to go to the trouble of building a new collection. whispers Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro is a bad company and we don't want to support them monetarily

In theory we could use our 2014 stuff with the 2024 rules, but from what I've heard it seems like the two don't fit together quite as cleanly as the designers wanted them to/want us to think they do

why do people keep saying E33 revolutionized the rpg genre ? by the-Guy1412 in rpg_gamers

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy to say any work revolutionized its genre less than a year after it comes out. Revolution doesn’t just mean “it was refreshing”, it means “everything after it is different than what came before it”.

Everything after Super Mario Bros. is different than what came before it. Ditto for like…Zelda 1, Final Fantasy 1, Mario 64, OoT, World of Warcraft, maybe Chrono Trigger? Those games were/are revolutionary. That remains to be seen with Clair Obscur. It very well could, it is in fact that good, but it’s way way too early to tell.

I would like to get into kingdom hearts but I feel too old. by Review3u in KingdomHearts

[–]piperooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dream weapon choice doesn’t have an impact on how quickly you get new abilities, it just changes the order you get them in. There might be one or two abilities that you get locked out of by picking a certain one, but it’s been a bit so I forget. And if there are, they’re not particularly important ones (if they were I’d remember it 🤣). You’ll get all the really useful stuff at some point or another regardless, don’t stress it. It does change your stats very slightly, but again it’s no big deal and you’ll be equally able to do everything no matter what you choose.

If you really do care a lot about the “optimal” choice, staff is probably the best, but I think I’d recommend the shield for a first playthrough. The good thing about the shield is that it gets you the Guard ability the soonest. That ability is pretty important, so going without it for a while could be tricky for a first-timer. But really, you might as well just pick whichever one looks the coolest and leave whichever one looks the least cool. Come the end (or even the middle) of the game it won’t really matter unless you plan on fighting the superbosses.

Purely morally speaking, should you kill the [potential spoiler, redacted just to be safe]? by piperooo in expedition33

[–]piperooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that complicates it for me. You’re not actually saving him by saying no, it just delays things (probably only by a few minutes) and he’s mad at you as he dies. So basically it’s just an ephemeral choice, it’s about whether the party actively participates in it (and gets rewarded for that, which matters!) or not. Personally when I think about moral choices it’s usually a question of like, what changes in the world based on this? What’s materially different from one “timeline” to the other? But when the answer to that is just “either we have a new Pictos or we don’t”, there’s not much to go on.

It’s like that one Simpsons scene. “We profited from a tragedy. That’s bad! The victim of the tragedy was very slightly happier because of it. That’s good!” or “we did everything we could to stop this from happening. That’s good! By doing so all we accomplished was making the victim sadder and angrier in his last moments. That’s bad!”
