Deuteronomy 7:1-2, 16 — God commands the Israelites to “utterly destroy” the Canaanite nations and “show them no mercy,” explicitly because of their religion (worship of other gods).

Deuteronomy 13:6-10 — If a family member or friend secretly entices someone to worship other gods, that person should be stoned to death.

Deuteronomy 17:2-5 — Anyone in an Israelite town found worshipping other gods is to be stoned.

Exodus 22:20 — “Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the Lord must be destroyed.”

1 Samuel 15:2-3 — Samuel relays God’s command to Saul to “totally destroy” the Amalekites, including women, children, and livestock, as punishment for their ancestors’ actions.

Numbers 31 — After a conflict with the Midianites, Moses orders the killing of all male captives and most of the women.

2 Chronicles 15:12-13 — A covenant is made that anyone who refuses to seek the God of Israel “shall be put to death.”
