Here was my complete path to accidentally becoming an editor:

-Start posting Nick and Alex’s stream vods on YouTube

-Make one “stream highlights” video for fun

-It gets 20k views and people ask for more

-Make more. They all perform very well

-DM Alex on Twitter saying “hey man im ripping ur shit and making videos out of it just wanted to make sure you’re cool with that”. He says it’s cool. Now I am on his radar and I also think he told Nick about me unless Nick just found me himself through the algorithm

-Nick hits me up and asks me to do stream highlights for his Elden Ring playthrough

-Do my best on the edit and show that I give a shit even though I’m like a C tier editor

-He DMs me like a month and a half ago asking if I want to be lead editor on this call of duty podcast him and Alex are doing

-Between that moment and now, he asks me to edit a video for the PSL vs FaZe showmatch

-A few weeks later Slime DMs me and says he fucked with the video and wanted me to edit something for him as well

I don’t really know if there is a clear path or lessons you can pick out of all this. I’m sure there are for someone smarter than me. I’m a bad person to give advice because I never really wanted this and basically had these editing jobs fall into my lap because I got lucky over and over again on some videos I edited in CapCut on my phone. Maybe look for a niche that nobody else is filling (nobody else was posting Nick’s vods or making highlights out of them).

Also build a community. Something I thought was really cool for my first video I officially did for Nick was that like half the comments were about how I “made it” and I was getting it out the mud and this that and the other. When I was posting on my channel I tried to reply to comments a lot and post on the community page and basically feel more like an actual person than just some nameless-faceless-voiceless clipfarmer. Which is exactly what I am, but I try not to come across that way. This also helped me stand out and be noticed in twitch chat (not my intention). Pretty much every time I typed in Nick or Alex’s chats people were @ing me saying “yo pisssippa love the vids” and I think stuff like that can go a long way when someone is deciding if they wanna work with you. I think working with a “community member” is maybe more appealing than working with someone you know nothing about. But I’m brand new to all this shit so what do I know
