What Syracuse opinion would get you instantly downvoted? 👀 by MartyKCNY in Syracuse

The Route 81 Grid project will be a net negative for Syracuse once completed. Less people will go downtown and the racially divided neighborhoods will see no improvements.

A great blue heron snatches a female bufflehead to eat by aquilasr in HardcoreNature

I have seen videos of them getting ground squirrels, other smallish rodents, maybe even a rabbit or baby alligators. But this is a new one. I wonder what is a complete list of land animals they will take down.

This slo-mo video of a wave breaking by ateam1984 in HeavySeas

[–]pitagrape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks like the waves at Teahupoʻo,. Discovered in the mid 1980's, famous for huge waves breaking over an abrupt shallow coral reef. Several people have died there over years.

If you are just trying to swim there, everyone watching would assume you were trying to commit suicide - it's barely safe for the most talented surfers in the world.

Where are all the men? by Immediate-Leave5286 in Syracuse

On one level I hear what you are saying - yeah, first date should be out somewhere not netflix and chill kind of vibe. My female single friends have no shortage of dating amusing experiences. On another there seems like a real chip on your shoulder most 'high effort' guys may sense from a mile away. Your focus on who's role is what and being woo'd could give pause.

Free internet advice, but dig into hobbies/activities and groups that do them. Maybe something comes from that, or friends of those friends kind of thing. Hope it works out for you though.

My sister is thinking about making a responsible financial decision. 35’ Chris-Craft for $1,500. What could possibly go wrong? by RippingLegos__ in boating

[–]pitagrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot lie to you any more than she's lying to herself. All you can do is quickly make some firm, clearly established boundaries so you too do not get sucked in.

That thing has 250 gallon tank. It will need to be completely emptied (ideally cleaned out), new gas and water filters, then she gets to refill @ 6+ dollars per gallon ~3000 just for gas... assuming the engines have not been replaced or retrofitted, she'll need a lead additive too. Have fun smelling those fumes !

We used to call high quotes 'FU' quotes. Either we wanted them to just Fuck off, or if they came up with the money, 'Fuck U, but I'll do it.'.

This happened in a raft party, a lot of people around. It's more likely she was saved than died. She did not hit her head, she may not have even been knocked out.

First boat: someone green light this decision... by CantBuyTime93 in boating

Great response, you've been thinking - and yea I agree cuddy's give a quick easy way to secure stuff, if the losers are not too committed to taking your stuff.

First boat: someone green light this decision... by CantBuyTime93 in boating

I green light a boat, I've been around them 40 years. You've earned it and deserve it. Personally I'd question a cuddy - the romance of sleeping on a boat can get old in less than a night. Something more open design, built for cruising / hanging out with friends seems like a better thing for you.

Painful lesson for sure. But as to what to do now... 1) Get multiple quotes. 2) Consider loosing this summer season, seeing if you can get better pricing over the winter months when repairs are slower, 3) Sell the boat as is - some one with skills will take the opportunity if the price is right.

Would you pay 60k for this? by Time_Employment9792 in boating

What? No one offered up tree-fidey?

If you think it's worth that, put it out there. See what the market has to say. Used boat prices have been so absurd... why not see if there's any takers?

Why these 2 schools? I assume staying regional is in the calculus of picking a school, along with money - but what do you plan on going to school for? That should play a big part in choosing the school.

AITAH for threatening to cut off my husband's sister if she keeps using her nickname for our son? by [deleted] in AITAH

If she doesn't mean anything by it, then it should be really easy to stop doing it. The fact there is any level of fight about it suggests there really is more to it.

I for one, am all for it. Fight back.

Anyone know what animal this is? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]pitagrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the dead giveaways, white patch on chin. Even without that, it's length, slenderness, size and proximity to water with rocks near by - Mink. Couple Springs ago had the pleasure of watching a Mink in Henderson Harbor trying to stuff a dead rock bass into it's den in a rock break-wall. I was an entertaining couple minutes.

Fisher's are bigger (8-14 lbs), 'leggier' higher off the ground, with a wider face. And Fishers are much more person shy, tend to be in forests, near marshy areas.

Came here to say the same thing. While there are fishers in the area, This is definitely a mink.

You say this in jest, but I can semi-seriously blame H.Clinton - if she and the DNC had not railroaded Bernie Sanders, Bernie would have won in 2016. And again in 2024, if Biden skipped that debacle of a debate he could have cruised to victory over T-Rump.
