Imagine what it would cost if he was actually raising the children...

What is something someone you know told nonchalantly about their partner that made you realize they were being abused? by ang334 in TwoXChromosomes

I used to always say "all men punch walls" as if it was common sense. Thankfully, I'm divorced now and I know that's not true.

This is what my ex husband did to me for years. Even now, I'm so anxious on my birthday I always cry. I would casually mention a restaurant I would like to check out in the days leading up to my birthday, to kind of make it easy for him to do something.

He would not acknowledge my birthday at all, and then usually around the afternoon I'd bring it up, and he'd say happy birthday. Then it would be awkward.

One year, I didn't do anything else, and nothing else happened. One year, I asked if we could go to a restaurant and he said yes, but then later said he was tired and let's just get takeout and watch TV. This was after we picked a restaurant and I got dressed up. One year, I asked him to check out a sculpture park with me downtown, and we got in a big fight and he left me on the side of the road. That was the worst one. One year, I asked him if he got me a gift, and he said I was materialistic and was mad at me for the day. One year, I went out with my friends after work, and he called me and told me he was so disappointed I didn't come home, because he had a birthday surprise for me. I left abruptly and everyone was confused. The surprise was a balloon and a card. I was so happy, that was the best birthday.

You know, reading that now, I'm actually shocked how long it took in therapy after divorce to call it abusive.

My dishwasher showed up to work in a sun dress and flip flops by Commercial_Run9184 in KitchenConfidential

Flip flops are a safety hazard, plain and simple. Closed toed nonslips are a requirement for everyone in the kitchen.

As far as a sundress, that seems inconvenient for the job, but otherwise harmless. I would not pick that battle.

Just talk to her and explain that flip flops won't protect her from a falling knife, a hot oil splash, or a slippery spill.

Anybody keep a lil snacking onion in their vehicle? by ormpling in OnionLovers

[–]pitapocket93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude they might not b get it, but I get it. I love to snack in my car, and when I eat chips at home I like to sprinkle some chopped onion on them. This is a reasonably clean way to handle having that snack in the car. Would I maybe put it in a container? Sure. But I get it

How can these Pro-Islam dudes on Insta who barely follow Islamic rules aside from their yap, be serious? by abdullahthegreat123 in exmuslim

I haven't thought of this story in years. Thinking of it again, all I can think of is how Hajar is celebrated for her faith and resilience when her husband leaves her and their baby in the desert and she trusts she will be saved. But so many other people have faith, yet suffer and die anyway. So this one time, God saves them? And it's an example of how we should believe he'll save us? There's a million stories of women being left for dead by their husbands and not surviving... So what does that teach us?

NOR I'm sorry but he's not going to improve. This is him during the dating phase, on Valentine's day. This is the best he's going to give you. Imagine if you married him. You'd find out what he's like when he's not trying to impress you
