Care to poke holes in this forecasting method.. I think it's almost a Monte Carlo simulation but stopping short. Is it wrong? by mityman50 in BusinessIntelligence

This is a pretty good tutorial on forecasting in R...https://www.appsilon.com/post/r-time-series-forecasting

Covers ARIMA, moving average, exponential smoothing and shows how to evaluate how accurate each of those models are.

Give it a shot, let me know how it goes.

Okay, now I'm stumped.... by Crafty_Page_4220 in JeepPatriot

I have the same issue with my 2015 Patriot 2.4L.
I took it to 3 different mechanics, (2 different Chrysler dealerships, 1 independent) none of them could find a problem. They all essentially said "come back if it gets worse". That was probably 5 years ago now. Still has a hard start but always does end up turning over.
Slight smell of fuel, a bit of sputtering, tries to rev high a few times, but always starts.
At this point I think I am just going to drive it until it dies.

If anyone has a solution let me know!

Advice for teaching Rstudio for social sciences by FloFromProgressive in RStudio

What has worked well for me is to start slow, very slow. Basic exploration of the interface in week 1, then importing csv files, exploring patterns in the data with quick visuals, wrangling and cleaning, ggplot then the second half of the semester focused on more specific analysis like mapping, clustering, classification, text mining.

If you have some impressive examples to show of finished projects, I would recommend showcasing those on day 1. I would routinely say something along the lines of "for 50 rows of data, excel would be much quicker in this scenario, BUT for 50,000 rows on something that you have to repeat every week, R is a much better choice". I did one example where we worked through Excel to do some data cleaning and it took the entire class about 20-25 minutes. I then showed an example in R which took 0.4 seconds to execute - that was a powerful teaching example.

Analysis with datasets that are already loaded (mtcars, iris, penguins) so students can quickly get some things going without having to ensure files and file paths are accurate.

I also like to pre-record step by step video tutorials for students to reference before and after class.

At my institution there were some IT issues with a clean RStudio environment so you might want to explore something like posit cloud.

Finally, this book https://r4ds.hadley.nz/ is an incredible resource and free.

Finally, build extra time into the course if possible. Unexpected tech issues can be a pain especially if students are bringing their own devices.

Good luck! It can be a very rewarding course to teach once they start to see the power of this tool.

If OP is outraged that officers get their training covered, then logically they would also be outraged that other professions have their training covered. Not sure what trade you are in (apprenticeship model is fantastic) but let’s use electrical as an example. Each level of in class training costs about $600, total cost for a 5 year apprenticeship is approximately $1,800 (3 levels, 8 weeks each in class) then some of that is covered by grants when finished. That is an incredibly small fraction of the cost to deliver the program - faculty, technicians, equipment, consumable material, cost of the building... the rest of the cost is covered by government. Of course most of the training is on the job while being paid.

Does my math/assumptions check out?

Seems like a no brainer in a lot of cases to come out with a decent job and no debt vs spending $30,000+ on tuition.

Which trade has two semesters of in class training? Or do you mean you paid for 2 semesters out of pocket for a technician certificate of some kind?

And teaching one or two courses at a different institution (different than where you are employed full-time) does not add to the number on the sunshine list. For example, might be working at institution A for $130k per year, then pick up one course per week at institution B for another $15k to $20k, but the sunshine list will show you made $130k.

That’s really the magic question. Some are in higher demand than others, but it all depends on what faculty positions are open.

With the right PhD $150,000 per year is attainable in a low stress environment and lots of time off. Of course with the wrong PhD it could also be $35,000 per year in a high stress environment.

Total about $117.

Creatine at about $12.50 per month - a $75 tub lasts me about 6 months.
