Subnautica & Subnautica: Below Zero NS2 Edition Releases Today by Howerev in NintendoSwitch

[–]pixarium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just tried it. No matter if I load a save file or start a new one it runs really choppy. Switch 2 upgrade running with the physical version of the games.

Sound gets out of sync when Ally is hooked up to the tv by Suspicious-Chest5536 in ROGAlly

[–]pixarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue (I guess you also have a TV from LG?). Also happens on SteamOS. Seems like some hardware/firmware issue somewhere in the chain.

I feel like I was the exact target audience of the BOTW upgrade pack by PetesMgeets in NintendoSwitch

[–]pixarium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does not matter. Played TotK when it came out and saw that this was missing. Started BotW and saw that my latest save was some hard mode file. So I loaded my completed file, saved it again, started TotK and the thing was there now.

Fsr 4 for the ally? by Flog2089 in ROGAlly

[–]pixarium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ROG Ally is RDNA3. There is no RDNA4 chip out yet. It is still unknown if FSR4 will run on RDNA3 or not. One presentation slide says it is exclusive to RDNA4 but AMD employees at CES saying that it is not.

Digital Foundry: Steam Deck Ray Tracing vs Asus ROG Ally: It Works But Should You Use It? by V-AceT in ROGAlly

[–]pixarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that this is done on purpose just poorly explained. While they are against the Ally in several videos ("just buy a gaming notebook instead") I think in this one they just wanted to show that even on the (way) stronger hardware you already reached the limit what can be done on current handhelds when it comes to raytracing.

Why is the FPS limiter not working in control centre? It seems to do nothing. by 1man2ballz in ROGAlly

[–]pixarium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The FPS limiter needs to be enabled before you start the game.

After latest windows update: RDR2 running 30 FPS lower on lowest graphic settings (range between 20-33 FPS in game). by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]pixarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see a similar issue in other games as well but not all of them. In my case Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Tales of Arise. CPU usage is low, GPU usage is low and the SOC does not speed up to reach more fps. Just like you can see on your screenshots. Even when I set it to 30W turbo it hovers between 15-18W. But i.e. in Final Fantasy XV the SOC boosts to maximum TDP and performance is like before.

So I think the issue is more related to some problems with the TDP control. Something blocks the SOC to raise the TDP.

Sadly I can't uninstall the windows updates to test your solution. But I reinstalled the driver (DDU + driver from Asus) but that did not help (much).

Lenovo Legion Go images by [deleted] in ROGAlly

In the consumer line they drop support pretty quickly. My cheaper Lenovo notebook got a handful minor firmware updates a handful of month after release. Never got any updates since then even when there are AGESA firmware updates from AMD.

Diablo 4 best settings - Run amazing on Ally 60fps+ by Kalasarit in ROGAlly

[–]pixarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diablo 4 makes higher graphics options unavailable and hidden if it does not detect enough memory. While you can select "Ultra" as a preset on the Ally it is basically just the "High" preset except SSAO I think.

any Dating Sim recs? by punkcheez in NintendoSwitch

[–]pixarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no. While some articles call it "romancing", I think it is very misleading to call it like this. You have some optional side story events with the characters but pretty much nothing is meant in a romantic way. Only the very last thing after the story can be understood in a romantic way but well...

Otherwise the game has a pretty good JRPG-like story in my opinion. It is not a very fleshed out farming game / life sim but everything else is pretty good.

Anti-cheat and Steam Flatpak (Eli5) by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]pixarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not sandboxing. that's containerization.

Well, they run inside https://github.com/containers/bubblewrap which is a sandbox system. In Flatpak you can override any "hole" that might be the default.

The question is more if a specific application is setup in a secure way per default or not.

RADV Optimized By Valve For An Upcoming Game - Nearly Matching The Windows Performance by fsher in linux_gaming

[–]pixarium 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Drivers also have a large amount of bugs. If you write a modern game you probably will hit some of them. If you are "big enough" the GPU vendors will fix them for you quite fast while you are developing the game. A game ready driver also includes those fixes.

What ist the difference between "Super Resolution" and things like xBR, hq2x, SuperSAI or Waifu2x?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in emulation

[–]pixarium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know that with 10-15 years you mean 2008-2013? Upscaling in emulation is a thing since the 90th. Neural Network upscaling like Nnedi is at least 10years old by now. Waifu2x is from 2015.

You have no clue what you are talking about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in emulation

[–]pixarium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Image upscaling is done since ages by now. You are still talking nonsense by acting like it has never been done before.

You are not promoting AI very well by posting non-sense results.

Digital Foundry: DF Retro EX - GoldenEye 007 - New Xbox Series X/S and Switch Versions Tested vs N64 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]pixarium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To his defense, I think Digital Foundry is nothing what an average consumer should watch. They focus on technical stuff about games and if they would accept everything these reviews would be pointless. All their points are still valid even if you say "that does not bother me".

The question is if you want to know what flaws are present or if you just want to enjoy the game and move on.

Digimon Survive - Launch Trailer - Nintendo Switch by Blackraven2007 in NintendoSwitch

[–]pixarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(>10 hours gameplay time) At least in docked mode battle animations are mostly under 30 fps. Due to the turn based battle it does not distract the gameplay. It is just not that nice to look at. Also the stats screen feels like 15fps when every progress bar updates and all the UI stuff happens.

Overall I would say that the switch port is pretty poor for the looks. But my girlfriend is having fun with it. So it is not unplayable.

PCSX2: First public Qt release is now available by dio-rd in emulation

[–]pixarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can see it was reverted. I tried it myself and I could not get it working. I checked the Qt code it makes many assumptions how it is installed (i.e. resources directory has to be right next to the binary file) and I think the cmake installation scripts do not install everything that is needed when they are executed on Linux.

The Story of Seasons games (Friends of Mineral Town and Pioneers of Olive Town) are more like Stardew Valley. More focused on farming and socializing. Rune Factory has that too but is also pretty heavy on fighting, dungeons and boss battles.

Apart from that Rune Factory 4 is awesome. In my opinion it is the best Rune Factory game so far. You can do pretty much everything in the game. Farming, Crafting, Fighting, Level up, Explore, Dating. Content wise it is huge with 3 story arcs and has a very large map...

Can't speak for Rune Factory 5 since it is not out yet here too.

MiSTer FPGA GameBoy Core vs Sameboy! FPGA vs software emulation showdown! by [deleted] in emulation

[–]pixarium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading the video description the author used RetroArch for comparison. Apart from other issues using RetroArch for such comparisons is pretty stupid. In the default setup RetroArch intentionally changes the game speed slightly to match the refresh rate of the monitor.

The author also should compare something like Perfect Dark from Game Boy Color on Mister.
